Lots of rumours here in Ottawa that Minty coming our way. Makes sense we have the assets and import spot. Anybody hear anything in Saggy?

The most important thing for Saginaw is to win the Memorial Cup Bid for next season. Way more money riding on that then this season. Love Mintyukov, but not dealing him would be Drinkills biggest blunder as GM
If he doesn't get a trade done with Minty their is still a hell of a good club. I agree with @bcspragu that we need picks and a trade as #1 objective, work that magic DD. On the other hand try to aquire a 04 this year to help the team now and next. If Minty doesn't go, DD should try and improve the club. We can upgrade Hill as well for cheap, .5 pts a game is not enough.

Nothing specific. Makes the most sense though. He played last nignt, will be telling if he is scratched tonight

I imagine there is a game of chicken going on right now. SAG wants Marrelli in the deal and OTT wants it to be primarily picks.

It will come down to whether there are any other serious offers that forces Boyd’s hand to add in Marrelli. I don’t think Saginaw can keep him. I think this is what Boyd has done with Hamilton and Morrison. Waited out the market and the suitors dried up and Hamilton had to take the deal for picks.

I’m not talking about a low ball here either. Nothing wrong with three 2nds and three 3rds plus a kid like Ewles. That would still be a good return if they can’t build in Marrelli.

Think this week should have put into perspective for the rest of the folks wanting to hold onto Mintyukov where we stand with respect to the contenders. 5-2 to a stockpiled Windsor. 3-0 to a London team who may add even more. Got a win vs Kitchener but everyone is doing that right now. Hopefully we see a good return by the end of today. I still like our chances to get out of round one if we can get the 4/5 seed. Then give a good fight in round 2.

Of the remaining 31 games we have:

Windsor x4
Sarnia x2
Ottawa x2
Flint x3
Kitchener x2
London
Owen Sound x2
North Bay
Petes

Not a ton of “easy” games left. Gonna have to hope all the teams in the west beat up on each other in the second half.

From what I hear, Ottawa is dangling assets. The question is what “type” of trade is required? Mintyukov being an Import does strain things a bit. Each team only gets three OA spots and two Import spots. Usually that means they have the same sort of value on the trade market.

Morrison just went for six picks (2x 2nd, 2x 3rd, 2x 4th). On the surface, you have to expect a similar return but Mintyukov may be in a slightly different category. Many of the contenders have an open Import spot so the situation is different than the Morrison scenario where the contenders mostly didn’t have available space. I’m not sure if that is going to mean an ‘06 1st but I could see a decent player plus a strong picks package.

Is there a sense of what the more realistic expectations are?

If they won’t get a player for him. This would be a VERY nice return. Wonder if DD would go and flip a few of those for an 04/05 D before noon today?

If it was going to be no players, 9 picks is a VERY nice consolation prize. All the picks are in 24, 25, or 26 which is perfect. The exact ammo we'll need to add who ever we want next year.

Even if they don't flip picks today for a top 4 D, still think they need to make a small move to bring in a defenseman even just to finish the year. Right now even if you count Glavin, we're at 7.

5 loses in a row, two to teams we should have easily beat.. It's a young team that was over achieving, but did the Minky trade send them a negative message that you can't win it this year?

2 games against Windsor, London, and a Kitchener team that did load up (despite the record). That’s a really rough stretch. Might have been a bit in their own heads against the Soo. Still sitting firmly in the top four. Coaches have to reiterate that to them and that they believe they can still win these games. They’ll get this fixed soon enough.
