i'm a fan of Ennis + Girgensons for O'Reilly

Remember COL does not have a ton of leverage a la the Peca situation ten years ago. Buffalo should deal from where they have a glut and the Avs have a need. In other words, give them a D prospect. Also the idea of a RoR and Girgensons line in three years makes me drool.

maybe so, but there will likely still be 8-12 teams competing with Buffalo for his services. who's got the best offer?

Stafford as a piece probably wouldnt cut it. Ennis or Sekera likely roster piece + one of Armia, Pysyk, Girgensons (who i'm not fond of moving)? is that good enough?

I would probably be a D prospect as other than Elliott they are paper thin on the backend.

How badly do they need D? I would think Sekera is a great bargaining piece and Armia is right on the border of top prospect.

I'd rather trade Ennis, then Sekera...

but, i would still give up Sekera to get RoR

Ennis+Pysyk.... + any of our left overs that they may want lol
thats where i'm at ideally...with a Gerbe sweetener, he's relatively cheap and COL likes cheap

I'd ask for Sekera & Armia though if i'm the Avs, which would hurt a lot more.

From the Avs board.

Rather Sekera be the starting point then +

Desperately. They have no 2-5 type D, and really only one (Elliott) in the pipeline. Probably Sekera for RoR would be a good framwork for a straight up deal.

I hate to give up Sekera, but I'd do it for O'Reilly.

Based on Dreger's tweet, though, Buffalo would have to add a top prospect.

Unfortunately I know a lot less about ROR than I'd like to.

Any good comparisons for the type of player he is and/or could develop into...
Current NHL player?
Former NHL player?
Former Sabres player?

I'm failing to come up with a player name but when fully developed I'd expect a player who:

Gets 60-ish points a year
Never lacks for effot
Plays Selke caliber defense.

He isn't there yet, but I think he will be.

Langkow a few years ago, Poor man Toews/Kessler
Brind'amour on the High end. Peca on the low end.
Less physical Peca, More physical Drury (I know they played different)

the sabres comparison will innevitably be something between peca and drury. I don't think either comparison is accurate in terms skill set/style of play. But in terms of impact and role... it's a good comparison.

current NHL comparison is something between Patrice Bergeron, Ryan Kesler and Mike Richards

but... it's the upside... it's that he's doing it at 21, what it took the guys listed above til 25 to do.

He's a legit top tier Selke center... and he's 21... sick

O'Reilly is under team control for three more seasons after this season. I imagine his demands will be disclosed if trade talks get serious and an acquiring team will be prepared to get a deal done.

Also seeing as ROR is a RFA, the Sabres (or any other team) can talk directly with him and his agent and know ahead of time what contract demands would be.

Stafford, Pysyk, and 2nd rd 2013 or 2014

If they want Sekera then they can have a lower level prospect like Sundher and a 3rd rd pick

Sabres must move some cap space out don't they?

I guess the real question when looking at a package is "would the players traded net between a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd Rd. pick and two 1st and a 2nd rd pick?" Because that is what will be received on an offer sheet. So who would you trade for those picks? Ennis + Psysk? Stafford + McCabe? Armia? Also dont forget McNabb has no value to Col as they hate him.

He really would be a perfect fit for our team. I'm salivating just at the thought of it, I'd be willing to move Sekera + Girgs for him, I know that is a lot, but I place players that have shown they can compete at a high level in the NHL a lot more than I do a prospect. Think of how good we could potentially look down the middle..

Sorry to keep banging away on RoR.

http://blogs.denverpost.com/avs/2013/02/12/ryan-oreillys-days-as-an-av-look-to-be-over/12550/

By the way, I’ve talked to about half a dozen general managers about this and none of them can believe the Avs would even consider trading Ryan O’Reilly, especially over such a relatively minor difference in money – at least on a short-team deal. I’ve talked to even more players around the league about it. ALL of them just rave about the kid, saying he was one of the toughest guys in the league to play against.
