His career production so far has been around there. He's slightly above PPG in 55 games. That's not even a full NHL season.

Playing well in the playoffs in the past doesn't mean you're magically going to be much better in them even if your regular season production slips. He's a very good player capable of putting up a Point Per Game and did so in a sample size less than an entire season.

Now, if Drew Stafford scored 55 points in 50 playoff games but otherwise was a 40-50 point guy in the regular season you might be on to something.

I hope I understood this incorrectly.... did you just say Giroux isn't a playoff performer because he averages the same amount of points per game as he does in the regular season and because he hasn't played 82 Post Season Games?

So.. because he's not putting up a PPG over the first 10-12 games of this shortened season, you expect him to not continue his regular playoff performances?

You are the king of hyperbole Jame.

. He had one good season. "Playoff performer" is a myth. Just like Leino is a great playoff performer, right? It can't possibly be that he played well in a small sample size right? Obviously there's some magical "clutch factor" that exists, and that for some reason when somebody else tells them the games are more important they magically get better. It must be that.

stepping up when the stakes are raised, is not a made up thing...

I agree he's a very talented player, but I'm not willing to crown him a superstar because he had a very good offensive year on a team loaded with other offensive talent that played a very aggressive system.

suit yourself... being late to the party is easier
Still, I agree with you. I'd do Myers+Grigo+1st for Giroux even if he turned out to be Jason Spezza 2.0

what an awful comparison... they aren't similar players.

You might want to re-read what I wrote. I said EVEN IF HE TURNED OUT to be Jason Spezza 2.0 (aka one great season and then back to 60-80pts).

9 players scored 80 points last year... Spezza was one of them.
WTF are you talking about
:shakehead

Spezza was your example of a player regressing after one great season

How has Spezza only had one great year?

2005-2006 90 points in 68 games = 108 point pace over 82 games

2006-2007 87 points in 67 games = 106 point pace over 82 games

2007-2008 92 points in 76 games = 99 point pace over 82 games

2008-2009 73 points in 82 games

2009-2010 57 points in 60 games = 78 point pace over 82 games

2010-2011 58 points in 62 games = 75 point pace over 82 games

2011-2012 84 points in 80 games

He's had his injury problems, but has never been on pace to score less than 70 points through 82 games...he is an elite player, his 'bad' years are when he still puts up 70ish points, excluding his first two seasons since he was still developing into the player he is now.

Dater tweeting that O'Reilly's days as an Av have been over for awhile and he won't be back. On phone so can't link to it.

O'Reilly makes worlds of sense for this team and what it needs. That means acquiring him has no chance of happening.

Stafford's value has never been lower. Sekera + Girgensons might get it done, though.

Colorado also doesn't have much leverage though. Signing ROR is clearly not a viable option at this point, and he's injured right now.
I'd do roster player (Ennis, Stafford, maybe Sekera) + Girgensons for him though. I mean, we pretty much hope Girgensons becomes ROR, maybe with more hitting, a few years down the road, so might as well trade up if we can.

Sekera only gets included with the understanding that he resigns. I don't wanna give up one of our best defenseman for a few months of the kid.

O'Reilly is under team control for three more seasons after this season. I imagine his demands will be disclosed if trade talks get serious and an acquiring team will be prepared to get a deal done.

Ah, ignorant of that fact.

Well then...if it takes Sekera to get O'Reilly I'm open to talks.

Colorado is going to get some SERIOUS offers. Does Buffalo have the 2 pieces to have their call answered? would they have to add that 3rd piece to get it done?

I honestly think (Ennis or Stafford) plus (McCabe or Brennan and a pick or JGL and a pick). I would do that all day.

Roster player and top prospect: I'd love to go Stafford and Pysyk, and I'd do it if Colorado took it. Sekera and Armia?

I think that gets it done, but I'd hate to part with Girgensons. Of the three forwards I think Colorado might take - Armia, Girgensons, Stafford - I'd offer up Stafford first.

He doesn't have the body of work to demand the contract he wants, so you are going to have to give up major assets to overpay for a player. Sorry, that seems like a losing situation to me.
