What proven top 4 D to pair with Power have moved this offseason?

What steady vet NHL goalies have moved this offseason?
Plenty of proven top 4 D moved...
Orlov
Severson
Provorov

Graves (less proven)

If you include the trade deadline as well:
Gavrikov
Chychrun
Ekholm

Currently what I would do:

Still going with the same Pesce trade:

Pesce (with extension) for 2024 1st, Rosen, and Jokiharju. The Canes don't have a bunch of defenders with team control after 2024, with just Burns, Slavin, and Orlov under contract and Coghlan as an RFA. Skjei, Chatfield, and eventually DeAngelo will be UFAs. Carolina has a reserve list a mile long but not a ton of impact players, so they are counting on their development to fill the NHL ranks (either by players graduating to via trade of prospects). Adding Rosen gives them a high end prospect, and Jokiharju gives them a RHD to slot in with Burns and Coghlan.

Olofsson (50%) retained to Minnesota for 2025 3rd rounder. The Wild are in year 1 of their 2 year Parise-Suter cap crunch, so adding a 30 goal scorer making $2.5M could make sense for them. There a plenty of teams who can offer up a 3rd for Olofsson retained at 50%.

Lyubushkin to Anaheim for 2025 4th round pick (lower of Anaheim's and Minnesota's). Anaheim has 5 D on the roster and could use a defender to round out their roster.

Skinner - Thompson - Tuch
Mittelstadt - Cozens - Peterka
Greenway - Krebs - open to competition
Girgensons - Jost - Okposo
x open to competition

Samuelsson - Dahlin
Power - Pesce
Stillman - Clifton
x Johnson, Bryson

I would love that D core but it sounds like Pesce doesn't want to come to buffalo.

I think they should make a move for a goalie more than anything right now.

4th straight offseason of needing a goalie for Adams, 4th straight offseason of neglecting it entirely. When is an appropriate time to complain after 4 years of it happening?
Cool which goalie trade did he miss out on? Oh he didnt give up 2 prospects and a 1st for the right to sign a goalie to a 7 year term? Wow he should def be fired

If you honestly think I am going to go through 4 years of player transactions to show you all the goalies that have been traded, I'm not. Plenty of opportunity to upgrade the goal position since he's been hired, and Adams has done as close to jack squat as he could have.

Minor penalty, 2 minutes, revisionist history.

Adams' 1st off-season: 2020 off-season. Ullmark was the #1, no need to go get a goalie when he had one. Ullmark was coming off a season where he split with Hutton, played 34 games, and was the clear starter going into the 2020 season.

Adams' 2nd off-season: 2021 off-season. Sabres tear down season. Everyone knew the Sabres were tearing down the team once Ristolainen and Reinhart were traded, and Eichel was out the door. No real neglect here, no one was signing in Buffalo during a clear rebuild.

Adams' 3rd off-season: 2022 off-season. Adams passed on a bunch of free agent goalies, but tried to trade for Matt Murray. He actually had a trade in place which was vetoed by Murray himself. He could've traded for Husso or Vanecek, so I could see why some fans might not be happy. Comrie didn't work out as well as most thought.

Adams' 4th off-season: 2023 off-season. Still underway, incomplete grade.

Also to note in the 2021 off season: Ullmark was one of the last viable UFA goalies to sign (if not THE last) and Buffalo was in talks with him right up until he signed. Ullmark (and his agent) burned Adams....big time.

Also to note on the 2022 off season: Many national pundits lauded the Comrie signing. It wasn't looked at as some mistake or "settling".

Hutton was terrible the previous season. He admitted to unresolved vision issues. Ullmark also had never started more than 37 games in a season due to him have well documented, nagging injury issues. Nearly everyone had 'a veteran goalie to pair with ullmark' as a need that summer. Also, it should be noted: both goalies were pending UFAs, so a goalie was needed to be added regardless of if Ullmark resigned or not.

It should be noted that this was the summer of expansion draft. No need to sign anyone! We have a free expansion slot to use! Oh wait...Adams wasted it on a pending UFA who wasn't going to sign here.

How did he pass on UFAs when that trade was supposed to happen at the draft? Plenty of better options out there than Old Man and the Career waiver wire backup.

Of the 8 goalies that got votes for the Vezina this year, 2 have moved since Adams has been GM: Ullmark & Georgiev. And then you have Hellebuyck.

The real challenge right now is that the high event system that Granato has them playing does not make them an attractive destination for any goalie with options. That's why Murray blocked the trade and Comrie was the guy they landed in FA.

Who "lauded" it?

Year 1 - Dumpster fire. hard to deny, and half that season was with Krueger.
Year 2 - Adams didn't do enough despite getting some pretty solid trade returns for the players who wanted out. Finished with 75 points exceeding all experts expectations of a bottom 5 finish.
Year 3 - Adams didn't do enough again, yet somehow the team finished 1 point out of the playoffs and again exceeded all experts expectations.
Year 4 - Will you finally eat crow if you're wrong again? doubtful.

How many of those goalie acquisitions worked out for the teams getting them? How many didn't? It's been a very mixed bag with many of the ones performing well being unexpected. The UFA goalies and goalies who were traded the past several years have mostly underperformed.

Grubauer - Terrible
Campbell - Terrible
Kuemper - Mediocre
Hill - Outstanding
Talbot - Terrible
Fleury - Mediocre
Ned - Awful
Mrazek - Awful
Husso - Mediocre
Andersen - up and down
Samsonov - Pretty good
Georgiev - Pretty good
Vanecek - Mediocre

I want a solid starting goalie as much as anyone, but it's been an absolute crapshoot the past couple of years and I recognize they need to play better defensively before you can say getting yet another goalie is going to fix anything. They are one of the worst teams in the league at allowing high danger chances and odd man rushes, even prime Hasek would have struggled for stretches of this teams defensive play.

Adams has had plenty of time over the years to find goalie and there have been interesting options on the market over the years. Some GMs find goalie with no problem, others have a problem with it.

So someone was going to give us a goalie for free to use in our expansion slot? That's impressive though that Adams used the protection slot on Ullmark knowing full well he wasn't going to sign took some real balls to do that.

I disagree with some of your assessments. And then there was this guy like Gustavsson.

Have you noticed that most of the teams who seem to find a goalie no problem also happen to have solid defensive structure? Where many of the teams that continue to struggle to find a solid starter typically don't?

Look at Kuemper on Colorado and then on the Caps, or Grubauer on Colorado, and then in Seattle. Did they fall off or did they go to worse teams defensively?

Hill - Outstanding
Keep in mind that his performance in the regular season was mediocre. It wasn't until the playoffs that he went supernova
