Babcock is telling his young horses to keep the foot on the gas pedal, and learn from their mistakes. That approach shows trust in them to learn while playing the same way he wants them to play in 1-2 years when they're a legit playoff team.
Bylsma has his guys play scared of their own shadow, cautious to a fault, trying to make up for a lack of talent on the back end, playing a game that isn't suited for a playoff team whether it's this year or three years from now after multiple roster improvements.
It's a huge difference, and the players see it plain as day. I wouldn't want to play under Dufus, and he'll have to go before big name players have a choice over their future.

The owners who are on the hook for $9M if Bylsma is fired, plus the salary of whomever is hired to replace them.
I don't think money matters to the Pegulas, Terry isn't getting any younger and wants to win so if Murray tells him he thinks the team needs a new coach he'll be ok with it. The Pegulas are worth around $3-4B I think I've read - I really don't think it matters to them when they pass their fortune on to their kids if they're a couple hundred million down. They know they overpaid for the Bills in this market, if the Pegulas died in a plane crash, god forbid, they would never find anybody willing to pay the $1.4B for the team who would keep them in Buffalo.
We have no idea what the hiring process of the Sabres coach was like. Obviously, both Murray and Pegula wanted Babcock. They backed up the money truck for him.
After that, we don't know what the process was like. Murray's input was there.
Given Murray's comments so far about the team, I find it hard to believe that the Sabres will fire Bylsma. Murray seems to be falling on his sword for failing to fix the defense. I believe what we will see at the 'end of the year wrap up', barring a major change or the team just falling apart, we'll see Bylsma and Murray both stay. Murray will attempt to fix the blueline. If Bylsma can't win with the team given to him next year, he's likely gone around the 30-40 game mark. And if that doesn't fix it, then Murray is probably gone too and we have a full front office reset.
The one huge variable, I think, is that we don't know what Murray is thinking privately or behind closed doors. Unless he is prepared to immediately fire his coach - I don't think Murray will publicly admonish Bylsma. After the recent losses out west he cast blame on the players and then also on everyone - including himself. He said he was upset with the loss in Denver especially and went on to say that after the game he held a coach's meeting until 12:30 AM. That says something to me. It's also not the first time this year he's had some direct input into the coaching. I also thought I heard him say at some point that he thinks the team is better than where they stand right now.
Murray's not blind and I'm pretty sure he sees what's happening on the ice and the way the team appears to be viewing and playing for their coach. He's also aware of fan sentiment.
I'm thinking that Bylsma's gone shortly after the season ends.

You know he can actually cause damage, right? The whole concept that teams need to learn how to win... that works in the other direction too.

Not that this is the place for this, but you don't judge an asset solely on its market. Considering the Bills could've been bought and then moved to LA then yes, they were worth relatively the same amount that the Dolphins had just been sold for.

Same. He built this. All that remains from Reiger are Judd Peterson and some 2013 Prospects. Everyone else has been resigned or acquired by Murray.

Why would you turn on Murray for his roster now? The team came into the season with these players, why did you not turn on him in the summer?

I was skeptical of him in the summer.
I'm starting to turn on him now because he still hasn't let go of this coach. Yes defense is a problem...but so is goaltending, and the biggest problem is coaching/system..
Murray has one big move to make.
Fire Bylsma.

Sabres have a legit shot to lose their next 5. That would be 8 in a row. If that happens down the stretch, somebody is getting fired.

The D is a lot worse than I thought it was coming into the season. Bogosian stinks. There I said it. I thought there might be hope for him after last season, but there's not. He's a #5 at best. A #6 on a good team.
Long term there is no way in hell Bylsma is the coach of this team. Murray knows it. Just get rid of him. The players don't listen to him anyways.

This is Murray's team now, and has been all season. His words: "That's on me to build a defense". Fair enough, how about an Offense? A goaltender? A coach? I'm super glad you maneuvered us to Jack Eichel, but he can't win by himself.
Your veteran acquisitions have been mostly a joke. Gionta and Gorges aren't teaching anyone how to win. Moulson, Ennis, Bogosian provide negative value both on money (nearly 15 million) and on-ice play. Two of them are clearly consistently line #4. Franson is too slow for a game of skating and speed, and you shouldve known that before you signed him.
Deslauriers provides nothing. Girgensons stopped progressing the second Nolan left.
Lehner is brutal. I get it, he has a decent save percentage. He's just not the guy. He's not that athletic. He's awkward in his movements. He requires a defensive, high-chance-shot suppression system to look good, and we'll never win playing that way.
Your coach has to go. Tomorrow morning. He lost the team in December. He commands no respect, he makes no adjustments, and pushes a passive system. Watch the tape of this game. Philly is mediocre, and yet, they did so many things we never do. They pass like an NHL team. They stayed aggressive up 4 goals.
I expect a HUGE turnover this summer. Trade 4-5 guys. Send Moulson to Rochester. Get Ennis off onto Vegas. Tell Bogosian to spend the entire summer learning how to play nhl defense, or to just stay home next season.
Your team failed in crunch-time this year, and there's not many non-Eichel positives to draw from.
Asplund and Pu look like 2 good picks. The Ristolainen contract looks good. Not much else to say that's positive about this organization.

I've hated Murray since day 1. He's done nothing to change my mind. He's made two fair value trades period. And the other ones have ranged from clear loss to getting destroyed.
Instead of keeping McNabb and 3 2nds he got us Fasching, Gorges and Deslauriers. Ouch. McNabb would look a lot better then everyone on this blue line sans Risto and McCabe...but we had a "numbers" game on the blue line
Can't believe we traded 2 2nds and a solid #4/5 dman in McNabb for a future 3rd liner at best and the worst player in the entire NHL. Laughable Pegula gave him an extension when he should have given Murray a pink slip.

I can't stand it anymore. Eichel is the only person that does anything. Hes also the only one who doesnt play within the "system" and its not a ****ing coincidence. these stretch passes in the neutral zone and along the half wall passes in the D-zone have to go, which means Bylsma has to go. ****.

Sometimes it looks like he intentionally gets in the defenseman's way so he can get the puck and carry it out
