The value of the players involved is fine. It's a fair trade.

However -- given how Adams (and Pegula) covet guys who "want to be in Buffalo/want to be Sabres"........Tuch isn't going anywhere. He was born a Sabres fan and takes real pride in putting the jersey on. I cannot imagine him going anywhere.

What Ottawa needs is more Zub not less and depth on D is still the biggest organizational weakness, so he's not remotely on the table

I honestly think it's a little from each column. And getting a bit more specific -- I don't think it's the on-ice physical talent that's the issue. The longer this core is together......the more I truly wonder if these guys have the right amount of hockey IQ to really hit their peak.

Tage is the only guy I've seen in this process who has developed the IQ part of his game.....what he's done this year as a 2-way player and generally making the right decisions is nothing short of remarkable. Peterka too, to an extent -- though he is guilty sometimes of being too deferential to Tage and Tuch (hopefully that goes away as he gets older).

But I also see players (especially defensemen) making the same mistakes over and over and over.

There are only so many "smart" players, and a bunch of followers who will do well if they are led around by the nose. Sabres are missing leaders, and this has been happening for a long time, so my contention is that the problem is off ice.
The days of modestly talented, but defensively sound and tough as nails Sabres teams that are hard to play against are so long ago... I'm trying to think of the last team like that.

I doubt it, more likely they won't do anything because every year I read these news that "Adams is active, they are looking for a deal" but then Adams says there was no suitable trade.

I can't imagine a bigger confidence booster to a locker room though.

For me personally, I like the idea, but I don't think I could give a high prospect like Oustund back. I'd do the first, and something like a 4th and a prospect a little further down the the line. I couldn't do a 1st and a high end prospect for Malkin at his age.

Initially, of course, the problem is with the owner, but our GM simply does not understand how to properly put together a roster, and he also likes to rely on kids in important roles, without giving them any help.

When was the last time they made a move for a significant addition? Skinner? That was 8 years ago. Hell, O'Reilly/Kane/Brokegosian was nearly 10 years ago. So when exactly was it that they went out looking to buy that it hasn't worked out?

You’re right, Buffalo has usually not been in buy mode over the years… but when there’s a “big trade” mentality whether it’s forcing the Eichel situation to a head and making a blockbuster sell off, the ROR sell off which yielded a great piece in return with Thompson, even Mittelstadt for Byram, it doesn’t seem like the swap materially improves the team but just continues the revolving door effect.

So I just go back to my original observation that it’s not a collection of skill and ability problem but what happens in house where you’re not getting the squeeze.

But I guess at the end of the day Adams has to do something.
