The issue with all teams coming out of retool/rebuilds is building the culture of winning and of course having the players to pull it off.

The nucleus/core players for winning is there so it comes down to too many young players not meeting expectations and not enough good prime aged players to insulate and put the young ones in the right roles.

A quality veteran top4 RD should be the priority for Power/Byram if the idea is to continue with the 3 puck movers. Trouba Murphy short term?? Weegar Pulock longer term?? 10.7 m in Samuelsson Clifton Jokiharju is really bad. start there. Most of that money should be used on that guy

Next would be someone to insulate Cozens.
Brock Nelson short term? Troy Terry longer term?

Need to be aggressive if this year matters

The islanders are in actually in good spot to retool finally with aggressive moves and likewise the Sabres are in a good spot to seize a playoff spot with aggressive moves. A match made in heaven

Pulock Nelson for Quinn Jokiharju/Samuelsson looks like an excellent base for both teams.

Islanders would want to fast track it with some young roster players. They cant do it all with UFAs or they will just be back in the same spot in a couple years.

For the Sabres they need 2-3 vets and Nelson Pulock would not just fill a couple important roles but would make at least a couple young players better as well.

Nelson they can re sign for a reasonable short term or just move on. He seems like an excellent mentor insulator for Cozens this year at minimum and Pulock as a mentor and stabilizer for Byram/Power would be huge.

Andersson allways played in Calgary in the NHL precisely what I suppose.

That's not in question here. What's in question is if he gets traded as a valuable piece on a bad team to a team who can offer pieces for a rebuild/retool.

Jokiharju is a bit of an enigma all-round. He's a guy who, if you look strictly at analytics, looks fairly impressive. His advanced stats with Dahlin are stupidly good. Problem is, that pairing doesn't pass the eye test at all.

I think the ultimate issue when it comes to Joker and Ruff......I think Ruff wants more intensity and consistency from Joker. I don't think Ruff wants Joker to be physical per se, as that's not really part of his game. But on the ice, Joker comes across as very non-intense at times.

And he's just a bit weird overall. He skates well, can pass well......but his offensive zone awareness is not good. Positionally he can be quite sound.....but pucks tend to pass through him like he's not there.

Everything is there for Joker to be a really solid 2nd pair RHD who's a bit of a do-it-all, master-of-none type.....but he just can't put it all together consistently.

All these words, you could have just called him dumb.

It feels to me like Pittsburgh and the Islanders would be somewhat natural trading partners for a big "shakeup" deal like Buffalo may be looking for. Teams with somewhat "locked in" rosters who aren't quite getting what they want out of it. Though they also have some trade protections on players, and Buffalo isn't necessarily going to be a desired destination for a lot of them.

The Predators also seem like a potential fit...but honestly, what do they even really have to make a deal? They're not moving Forsberg or Josi, so what's left of any substantial value to move in a "big trade"?

Y'all want Marner?
No exaggeration, I think Marner would be very successful in BUF.

He would be The Guy, which is what Paul Marner wants, so with daddy placated he hopefully stops annoying Mitch's organization. Not his hometown and away from the fishbowl and bright lights of tomorrow - probably beneficial for Marner's performance.

Boston needs to add alot. Byram is 23 while Carlo has 2more years and turns 28 in a week or so. Byram> Carlo

Kadri is 34 with 4 more years. Cozrns us 23. It will take alot more yo get Cozens before adding anything

Tuch is a local kid who grew up a Sabres fan. I dont ser them trading jhim

Similarly buffalo drafted D McCarthy who is playing for Boston univ. Hes a buffalo area native so dont seeing them trade him either

No. Adams isnt stupid like that.

The one exception would be for McDavid who actually would resign with buffalo
Andersson would be worth more than cozens if they had identical contracts...

Too expensive for what he doesn't bring to the table that Buffalo needs. Buffalo needs to get tougher to play against and consistency.

Also as a sabres fan I would rather upgrade at center or the top 4.

It popped up twice on the first page.

Something around Barzal makes so much sense to me.

The Islanders need to get out of purgatory, it's crazy. They are truly directionless. It hurts but just rip the bandaid off and commit to a full tear-down rebuild.

Can Lou and hire a new GM who isn't allergic to young talent to see through a 5 year rebuild. Use guys like Barzal, Dobson, and Horvat to set the rebuild light years ahead with high quality prospects and 1st round picks.

Buffalo meanwhile need to go the opposite direction. Enough is enough. Shit or get off the pot. They cannot be thinking about drafting high or bringing young talent along. Time to go all-in and trade all picks and young prospects who aren't essential core pieces for established win-now players.

Barzal gives Buffalo a nasty 1-2 punch down the middle, slots Cozens on the wing where he may be better suited and gives Barzal finally some skilled and dynamic wingers to work off of.

He's an elite forward at both ends of the ice. I would classify that as a "need" for any team.

And not like they make the playoffs either so they will be getting the best version of Mitch all the time. Could be a good fit.
