Speculation: Sabres at the Trade Deadline

What reason would Perry have to re-sign with the Sabres if they were going to acquire him this season (which they aren't)? They're an awful team that he's never even played for. You really think he'd be so bowled over by their offer that he'd sign an extension with the Sabres on the spot? He'd go to July 1 and try to get a similar/better offer from a better franchise.

Well, he'd have to have an interest in playing in Buffalo. I wouldn't even want the guy if he didn't?

If we're both to deal Poms and Sekera, I'd rather see better players come back, even if it means a bigger trade.

Plus I'd like to see them dealt for pieces that make sense. ie: pieces that fit the puzzle. Right now we're a mess all over the ice. Just grabbing a guy cuz he's available isn't the right thing if we're to contend any time soon. If it's a total re-build, then fine, get all the good deals ya can.

Did anyone anticipate being the worst team in the league?

No. I think they're better than they're playing, to be honest. I expected a dropoff at center (no vets), but the defense is largely the same. There's no reason for it to be as bad as it is. There's just no confidence on the blueline.

Nope. Not there yet...

This team needs to get assets at the trade deadline when other teams are desperate. That's the time to maximize. Pegula needs to bring in a new GM to handle the imminent roster overhaul.

Agreed. I said to my g/f earlier that rock BOTTOM will be when Lindy brings his club to Buffalo, and gets cheered for whoopin on us. That would be absolutely my all time low as a Sabre fan. Now all I acn wonder is which team will it be.

...and yes, until Darcy is gone, we can't hit the bottom.

Most common linemates....John Tavares.

I agree that Tavares makes anyone better, but Lindy was a Brad supporter, and gave him chances.

Here's the problem with a blow-up, you're not going to attract any big UFAs...

We're trying to build stability, not break it further...

This team has as much chance as Columbus attracting UFAs at this point. All that Pegula has done to improve Buffalo's image doesn't matter if you're not winning.

I agree, but we can't show we're a house of cards. Seems like a fine line here. Maybe that's why TP didn't fire DR, because there will not be any easy fixes, and he and Ted aren't qualified, imo, to go it alone. It seems the more you chat about things, the more the clear they become.

Like, maybe we wouldn't have made the playoffs, but I didn't think we'd be embarrassing

With an injury to Miller and how terrible Enroth has been since teams figured him out, it seemed possible. With Miller healthy and most of the team as well, it's a surprise just how lifelessly bad they are.

I'm not one to worry, cuz life's to short, and I try to take care of my problems before they fester, but this organization is starting to worry me. Like Buffalo Bills bad worry me. I've always felt like I could fall back on one or the other, but the more clear our situation becomes in my head, the worse it looks. I hope I'm just having a down few day, but I just don't see any roses in the distance, besides maybe that we're young.

I really hope a partial rebuild will be enough, and that Miller and Vanek buy into it. I hope so bad.

Before I play GM, I have a question for the Ennis supporters.

We traded Kassian to get Hodgson, and project him on the top 2 lines for the next few years. We drafted Grigorenko as the future franchise centre, not as a 3rd liner. So the question is, how long do we keep Ennis knowing he is not seen as anything other than a temp by the organization?

It is hilarious to me that there are people on this board who think that an NHL GM would give up a player or a draft pick to acquire Nathan Gerbe. That would be grounds for dismissal. The guy is simply not an NHL player. It is nice that he tries hard, but he is hopelessly overmatched at the NHL level. He should be starting his career as an AHL lifer any day now. The fact that Gerbe is on the Sabres' roster shows the serious lack of depth on this team.

On a good team I see him as the second line winger
