Speculation: Sabres at the Trade Deadline

Maybe I'm taking the word "untouchable" too literally. Or maybe the word "untouchable" doesn't really mean exactly what it should mean to some.

Hypotheticals ......

Tampa wants Vanek, Foligno and Grigorenko for Stamkos because he's had a falling out with the Tampa coaching staff and GM.

Colorado wants Sekera, Grigorenko and Gerbe for ROR and a 3rd round draft pick in 2013.

San Jose wants Miller, Stafford and Kaleta for Pavelski and Niemi.

Anaheim wants Myers for Perry.

For some ... All those are untouchables?

Really?

As unlikely as they may be ...Those moves would improve the Buffalo Sabres. Some a little, others a lot.

IMO you build around a generational talent. A top 10 guy of the entire league. No one.... NO ONE on this roster is that. Everyone is "touchable".

3 for 1 trades probably aren't realistic to begin with.

I'd do Perry for Myers tomorrow(tonight).

As for definition, untouchable means don't even ask about him. I'd list Miller and Vanek as that right now if we're planning on extending them.

Not without the guarantee of a Perry extension. Otherwise he walks July 1 and you lose Myers for basically nothing. And I'm sure Perry would rather go to July 1 to get the best contract possible.

Most of this roster will only garner draft picks right now. It would be smart just to let the new coach evaluate and hopefully get better, improving their worth if the right trades present themselves. What have we really got to lose at this point by being patient?

Uncle Terry is going to have to get out his wallet. If we didn't do the move for fear we can't get him, we're the same old Sabres. Plus Myers is ripping us off anyways. I get your point, for sure though. Got to get our winning culture somehow, and that's a route worth trying, imo.

I'm sorry but nobody is untouchable EVER. There are only good deals and bad deals. Do you think Vanek is untouchable? What if I offered RNH, Yakupov and 1st rd pick? Is he still untouchable? I think not.

Oh we live la la land. That's cool.
But I think most people mean "untouchable" as will command a high price not a lot of teams are willing to pay, not OMG THE VANEK IS WORTH 10 GRETZKYS OMG.

Yes, because Regier is going to trade major assets for a guy and then let them walk on July 1st.

It's not like we have an owner who has proven he will pay top dollar for talent.

What I bolded is a common misconception. Tons of guys resign with their current teams in a contract year, that's why there's always such a scarcity of good free agents. Hell, we see instances all the time where teams trade for a guys rights a day or two before free agency and they still sign with that team because they get a good offer.

What reason would Perry have to re-sign with the Sabres if they were going to acquire him this season (which they aren't)? They're an awful team that he's never even played for. You really think he'd be so bowled over by their offer that he'd sign an extension with the Sabres on the spot? He'd go to July 1 and try to get a similar/better offer from a better franchise.

We were better when Pegula took Over than we are today.

Pathetic.

The entire original "Rochester Core" can take a hike.... They have been career losers since they took over the team

Did anyone anticipate being the worst team in the league?

Like, maybe we wouldn't have made the playoffs, but I didn't think we'd be embarrassing
