Ryane Clowe

Where exactly does injury prone come from? He averaged 76 games over the last four full seasons. He blew out his knee early in the 07-08 season but came back and was the Sharks best player in the playoffs. That combined with what has happened this year hardly makes him injury prone.

Yeah I know...

It actually makes no sense. He's hardly been injury prone during his career and frankly, there is a difference between being injury prone & just simply being injured.

It is way to early to tell and common sense says that making that sort of conclusion off the facts we have is not astute.

I mean he got hurt and came back two weeks later when he should probably sit 4.
You take any injury where someone should sit a while and be on the IR and bring them back immediately and the chance of re-injuring is high. Heck, look what happened when Crosby tried - he missed even more time. Or Marc Staal last year - plays entire playoffs, probably re-aggravating the concussion, and misses 6 months. Maybe if we pull out this series, Clowe can be back in 2-3 rounds, but not until he is ENTIRELY healthy.

The fact that he continued to sit out despite the type of player he is. Clowe isn't a p****, shows something is wrong and he needs to sit.

What this really speaks to is how impressive Gaborik was for playing last playoffs. Now playing through pain is different than playing with a concussion (which Clowe is rumoured to have), but regardless that is incredibly commendable.
People have come back off incidents way worse, the man just needs time. This is unfortunate since he was acquired to improve our team now. However, if Torts is satisfied with his performance (I have been when he has played), I don't see any problem bringing him back unless he asks for something stupid.

I admire him for trying to get back in the lineup, but his body has taken a lot of abuse from the physical play in the Pacific Division. The Rangers would be paying him for his past accomplishments, not what he currently is. What Ryane Clowe is right now is a player who has suffered 3 significant injuries in a shortened season.

Huh? I live in Phoenix and see 90-100 Pacific Division games a year. It ain't nearly as physical out as it is in other parts of the league. LA is tough but Anaheim and Phoenix are (and have been) softball teams to play against.

Chris Kreider is the most logical candidate to join the lineup in place of Ryane Clowe, who all but certainly sustained his second concussion in 16 days at 4:40 of Game 5’s first period when his head rattled off the glass on a Jason Chimera check for which the Washington winger was assessed a boarding penalty.

Clowe, who had just returned for Game 4 after being sidelined with a believed concussion he sustained in Carolina on March 25, took one more brief shift before leaving the game.

How does this work? Clowe was asking for a big free agent contract. The Rangers are going to tie up $4M plus in a player with a concussion history? 2 concussions in 16 days starts the concussion history. This is how it starts. Are these two concussions his first two concussions or are there other previous concussions from the junior or the AHL or in SJ? So when Clowe gets another concussion some point next season, the Rangers will have a Clowe on IR sucking up cap space on a player who can't play. Long term IR is tricky. The Rangers will need to be cap compliant whenever the player returns.

The Clowe from 08-09 to 10-11 is the player the Rangers need. He is not that player anymore. Add the two concussions. Its a bad signing waiting to happen.

And if this is another concussion – because I’m assuming the last injury definitely was, and that this one also is – it’s probably going to cost Clowe a lot of free-agency money and years. In an odd way, it might make it easier for the Rangers to re-sign him. But it will be risky to do so now.

The Rangers still lose a 2nd in 2014 instead of a fifth with a cheap contract.

He needs to come back. This Bos series is perfect for players like him and lucic. Really looking forward to those two getting into it. Dorsett, Asham, Clowe three guys spread out between at least tweo lines who can match the physicality of some of Boston's guys. But only if he's healthy.

If Kreider can play like he did last night he should stay in over Clowe. He made a bad mistake in the first period but after that he was skating hard, hitting people hard, he made two solid defensive plays in the 2nd period, and he was getting in the forecheck QUICKLY. The rangers need that speed over the very slow clowe. You saw the difference players like Asham and Dorsett made with their quickness on the forecheck these last two games. Kreider and Asham were banging bodies. And we'll be right in Kreider's backyard in Boston.

If Clowe is healthy, he will be back in without question. Who sits? I don't know at this point. But he would be playing.

Clowe doesn't deserve to play. Dorsett, Kreider, Pyatt, etc have all been better than him lately.

That's because he has been out?

When Clowe was playing he was a difference maker.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Clowe was hardly a difference maker than a guy like Pyatt has been this series, in my opinion. I see him as a depth player right now, competing with Pyatt and Kreider for ice time. Since Kreider and Pyatt have been playing well, only bring in Clowe when he's 100% and someone else is laboring an injury.

If Clowe is indeed healthy, I would not mind Nash taking a rest to labor his leg and give Clowe his minutes for game 1.

Kreider would sit. Clowe would play 10-15 minutes and help take the pressure off of the big guys. That's why he was brought in.

But I think Kreider's speed could be HUGE in a series vs. Boston. Tough decisions ahead, but good problems to have I guess.

Exactly, I would rather have to make these decisions than have to play Bickel

:laugh::laugh:

Sounds like Clowe may not be returning, but if he does, any chance we sit down Richards? Asking too much? I realize we may not have a traditional center to step in, but frankly, I don't care. Richards is that bad.

If he has sustained 2 concussions in the last 3 weeks or so I do not think he will be able to throw the body or fight without a significant chance of a relapse in the Bruin series.

Anyone know when the big guy is gonna be back?

You guys need someone to straighten Lucic, Thornton, Marchand, Horton, McQuaid... well basically the whole Boston team out.

Pyatt( if he wants), Dorsett, and Asham can if they want, but they're playing good without sandpaper right now.

Clowe's perfect for the job, can't wait to see him destroy some Bruins

Take out Richards and put in Clowe. Who needs a center on the 4th line anyway? Not like Richards is playing well enough to be considered a C anyway. Too slow to backcheck or get up on O or get in on the forecheck. An out of position player would be better there. Not totally serious but if it gets in Clowe then screw it get a D responsible 4th liner in that spot instead of Richards. Didn't we do that anyway in one of the Wsh games go without a pure center on the line?

Krieder will prob suck and Clowe will take his spot. Or maybe his head is too screwed up right now and Clowe just can't come back.

And they may lose the 2nd anyway if they beat Boston. At that point, what is the feeling on a cheap contract? Depending on $$/term, I'd be all in.

The Rangers pick gets upgraded to a 2nd from a 5th if the Rangers win two playoff rounds

To get Clowe, the Rangers gave up their second-round pick in the 2013 draft, a third-round 2013 pick obtained from the Florida Panthers and a conditional pick in the 2014 draft. If New York wins two playoff rounds with Clowe or re-signs him for next season, San Jose gets the Rangers' second-round pick next summer. If neither happens, a fifth-round pick changes hands.

With Clowe. The player has barely played 4 periods in the playoffs. Did the Rangers and SJ agree to the number of games Clowe has to play in the first two rounds? If the Rangers win two playoff rounds with Clowe having played less than 2 games and have to surrender the 2nd,the Rangers did a bad job.

Would love to get Clowe back, but I doubt it happens.

At this point, I would hold firm at 3.25 million per season on a 2-3 year deal. If that means he moves on, so be it.

He was already slowing down as a player. He provides an element we lack, but the risk factore that he is on a significant decline is greater than the reward that he gets back to being a 50+ point player that rarely misses games.

Clowe comes back, I'm sitting Pyatt who while I admit had a decent game 7, overall has had a horrible 1st year as a NYR. Plus I prefer the speed that Kreider provides.

Zuccs - Brassard - Nash
Hagelin - Stepan - Callahan
Pyatt/Clowe - Richards - Dorsett
Kreider - Boyle - Asham

The Rangers are going to re-sign Clowe. The concussions will mean a cheaper contract. Jeff Gorton likes big players such as Ryane Clowe. The Rangers will end up regretting the contract as they do with many of their free agent contracts.
