If u can get a first for strome from a desperate team..u take it and laugh maniacally.

If you can get a 2nd for strome...you take it happily

If you can get a solid roster player for strome with youth and upside you take it happily.

You DO NOT pay Ryan strome 4m+

That's horrible asset management.

You do not play a player that has 50 point upside and can slide from wing to center and line to line $4m? Then who do you pay that money for?

People are going to loose it when he is resigned for a long term deal. No idea why, but they will. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a player who is forcing his way into the family photo.

You keep that money to pay DeAngelo, chytil, etc

50 point upside is all fine and good but it's more likely he's a 35 to 40 point player most of his career.

That's who I choose to believe who were getting.

I also choose to believe that his current production is a product of playing with panarin...

He's 26 and has never scored 35 points before this year. Maybe he's putting it together at 26. More likely, he's having a nice run right now and he's actually the player he's been most of his career or something between that and what we're seeing now.

$4M is one thing, $4M long term would be a horrendous decision.

Not sure what you mean but Strome had 50 points in 2014-15

Maybe just maybe, the reason that he is playing is not "we are garbage and have no choice but to pay him"
What I said is that he's been good but he would be in the same role if he were playing like garbage (like he did most of last year) because we have no options at center.

As opposed to Derek f***ing Stepan who was our #1 center.

Marchand, Brad's worst season is better than Strome's best season.

It's not Strome that really gets me, it's the hot takes regarding Strome.

I didn't say anything about signing Strome to a long term contract or anything else - merely that there's a fallacy to the take that you have to be an idiot to sign a guy off a career year to a long term contract. It's not always the case.

Personally, I'd sell high on Strome and call it a day. Between Zibs, Howden, Chytil, Andersson, etc.... there's no need for him in 2020-21.

That's fair. Didn't mean to group you in with the nuclear Strome takes.

$4 mil for a middle 6 veteran isn't alot...and its also not good asset management to trade away every veteran...

that said though I think there is a 99% chance that strome will be traded at the deadline as we try to sell high because we have an extreme cap crunch for next year and strome makes $3.1 mil so after 'breaking' out he is going to cost way more than $4 mil.

but this year needs to be the end of the sell off...after we get thru the cap crunch next year and have some space I think we all need to re-evaluate the value of having quality veterans on the team

Paying 4M for middle six players is how you end up in cap trouble.

Which simply means that he can be a very good support player. Look at his stats in entirety with the Rangers. Are you still going to say that this is a 35 point player? Seems to me that we are beginning to look for excuses for his production.

You put absolutely no faith in the fact that Quinn has demonstrated that he can extract something from players? That getting comfort in an organization and your place in it means nothing? Or comfort with a coaching staff? Or a team that wants you for who you are not for you were supposed to be with the 5th overall pick?

Wait, wait. He was "garbage" last year with the Rangers? Really? By all means explain how his level of play was garbage.

What you actually said is that the only reason he is playing is because the Rangers are garbage and have no choice but to pay him. How does that measure up to what you are attempting to explain?

Why are you bringing this up to me? Who the frig' is discussing Stepan? I certainly am not. If you are having this discussion with someone else, why are you arguing it with me?

11 points in 11 games.
Seems to me that people want to bring in excuses and explanation for his production as opposed to seeing is believing. Fine. No worries. Now what other players are we going to go out of our way to explain production as something other than seeing is believing?

I put some faith in some of those things. Not enough to think it’s wise to pay the guy as if this is his expected production long term.

He was one of the worst defensive forwards in the NHL last year. New scenery, new system, and he's been better at it so let's see how it goes.

That whole conversation you jumped into the other day (which is why we read before we post) was about him being as good as Stepan. That's exactly what I mean about the Strome takes.
