Could be a solid 20+ goals 45-50 Pts kinda guy for the next 4-5 years. Reliable two-way game, seems like a good listener and a good teammate with a great attitude. Let's see how he does next season but thus far it's hard to say he hasn't impressed. On pace for a 22 goal season going by his performance in NY.

And he's more involved in the game on an average night than Jimmy Vesey will ever be.

i know many folks will think this is nuts,
but i think they should name Strome Captain.
as in a Dave Maloney/Vic Hadfield/Kelly Kisio/Bob Nevin/Ryan Callahan type captain

He plays in all situations, works hard, gets involved, makes guys better.
He is doing well under Quinn, and seems trusted by Quinn.

I am not a fan of making your best or most important player captain, expect for obvious exceptions (Mess, Crosby, for 2).

IMHO, making McD captain undermined his continued development as one of the best all around D-men.

Give Strome the C, give A's (or rotating A's) to among Zib, Staal, Fast, Kreider

What an obscure suggestion!

Reminds me a bit of Mike York. Hard worker, who isnt very flashy but puts up points. Great trade by the front office, definitely a nice piece to have around while rebuilding.

I think that I have become a full on Strome convert. He changed his game around to fit in with what Quinn wants and it has paid dividends. And his game has been steadily and quietly improving.

One other thing to consider going forward. He is still young and can also be a great mentor to the kids. You will have some high draft picks coming in, who better to talk to them about playing to high expectations as opposed to your own or your coaches than a former #5OA pick who was considered to be a failure but seems to have resurrected his NHL career?

It's cool if he regresses. If he settles in as a 15-goal, 20-assist guy like he was before this season in Edmonton, that's just fine and dandy.

Yeah, 15-20 goal range, 35-45 points with a lot of hard, two-way game should find him a regular place in the lineup.

Even so, him on a third line is not awful. A 3rd line line consisting of him, Andersson & Lemieux is a nice thougth for next year.

If Andersson takes a step forward next season, that line will be an absolute bitch to play against. You need a line that can tilt the ice by hard work.

Yeah, I'm expecting regression, but at the same time, nobody ever said he would score 22 goals or whatever he's pacing for as a Ranger. If he goes back to 13 goals or whatever and he's a bottom six player who can take a regular shift and be a son of a bitch to the other team, that would be just dandy.

It's the contract I'm weary of. He can do a ton of good for this team if we extend him to something reasonable, get what use out of him we need, and then flip him at some point. What we shouldn't do is identify him as a core piece and sell out on 4+ years.

But now that I typed that out, and I'm looking at it in front of me, it seems so silly. I can't see Gorton doing that.

He's an RFA at the end of his contract, so it'll be interesting what will happen, if he's still here by then. Arbitration eligible too.

He’s been playing fine but he’s also shooting and converting at a rather high percentage

Think it’s a bit of a mirage but who knows

If you can sell high on him, wouldn’t be upset

That’s a little bit of my concern, he plays his best Rangers hockey now and then fades back into something significantly less next season.

That is why there is no need to rush out and extend him. Let's see if he can build on his play for next season. If he regresses, then we know the answer.

Spooner 2.0

And then we trade him for Spooner 3.0, who then gets traded the next season for Spooner 4.0, who gets traded the nex...

When does the Quinn stuff start
They talk about him for like a question at around 4 minute mark, then talk about how being 25 in the NHL is old these days, then back to Quinn at 8ish minutes or so, then they talk about family stuff, then McDavid/Oilers stuff, then they talk about how much Strome likes to talk about hockey and what’s going on around the league with team mates and he’s sort of brought that over to the Rangers, Friedman asks who’s his go-to guy to talk hockey with on the Rangers and he says Tony DeAngelo, then at 33:20 they talk about how great it is to be a Ranger.

It’s kind of all over the place, but the Quinn stuff is mostly in the beginning, and general Rangers stuff toward the end, the middle is mostly family, McDavid/Oilers, and then Tavares/Okposo/Islanders stuff

I know it was just game 1 but....

We have a 2nd line and 2nd power play unit that could be legit secondary scoring threats and I don't imagine that will happen until Ryan Strome is removed from both. He shows some flashes SOMETIMES but otherwise he's a detriment.

Praying a youngster pushes him down the depth chart ASAP.

We’re collecting a few of those players. The problem remains not having enough players above that level. Now, with Mika and Panarin already there, and Kakko and Kravtsov likely getting there, the Rangers are acquiring/developing a few of them. But, 2C looks like such a gaping hole in this organization.

And eventually, if Strome turns out to be what you’ve described, those type of players price themselves out of the market.

he needs 5 games minimum to see how it goes with CK and KK

any less and its a joke. after that give chad a shot or filip. still dont see howden as a 2C. at all.

kid isnt flashy but hes smart and has talent. he can keep up and he can play center- something none of our young guys have shown yet.

he was 70% fow last night too.

that line needs to score.

Who cares about face offs? Offense died on his stick and around him all night

We need to have a little patience beyond Game 1 of the season. Let's not rush to immediate judgement. If Strome regresses, then he will find himself centering the 4th line or out of the lineup and not a part of the team's future. OTOH, he can be the player that he was last year for the team and take more steps forward and make himself a part of the conversation.

This is still a building year. Let's have a little time to evaluate what the team has.

yeesh one game.

i wasnt all the impressed with kreider last night. should we also relegate him to the dumpster as well ?

KK had his moments. stromer fed buch with a beauty backhander for a slam dunk that was deflected.

that line is 3 guys trying to figure stuff out. 5 games min.

take a breath.

No, I’m basing it on Strome’s whole career thus far
