I don't see why we wouldn't sit Ryan down and tell him that we're trading him, but that we will want to talk to him if he reaches free agency.

He's definitely worth considering as a long term guy if the price is right, but he's also definitely not worth forfeiting the potential return we could get for him with the season he is having.

edit - and if he performs worse away from Panarin, that can only bring his price down.

He's a pending RFA. Whichever team trades for him is going to sign him for a minimum of 2 years.

Strome is having a very strong year and the trade was great. However I think we can say playing with Panarin has obviously benefited him too
Of course it has. No one is saying any different. But it is worth noting that Panarin is also on pace to demolish his personal records while Strome is one of the league leaders in primary assists.

Not everyone can seamlessly fit in with a superstar. Neither Drury nor Gomez could center Jagr. Know who could? Nylander.

I think Strome could fetch a really nice return, which would be great. At the same time, how does the team view our timeline? If they're going to try and position themselves as a legitimate playoff team next season, they'll probably want to try to keep him. If they're thinking they need one more full season, I guess it's easier to justify trading him.

Personally I would keep him either way, unless the cost is exorbitant. He's young enough that even if we're not a contender for another three years, he wouldn't be ancient and should still be a useful player.

It's pretty damn hard to prop up a player to the level of nearly a PPG. Panarin wasn't able to do that in Columbus or Chicago. He's also on pace to annihilate his previous scoring totals, so it certainly stands to reason that he's benefiting from Strome in some capacity as well.

Strome's chemistry with Panarin combined with his age, pedigree, and positional versatility, I think he's a pretty safe bet for a reasonable contract extension. At some point you need to consider just how much better you can do than what you've already got, and whether or not that gamble is worth it.

This is Brayden Schenn 2.0. He's a late bloomer.

- Former 5th overall pick
- Switched between center and wing for the first few years of his career; were never truly counted on in a "defensive" role
- Produces with elite players (Strome with Tavares and Panarin; Schenn with Giroux and Tarasenko)

I don't think extending him will break the bank, and at this point I like Filip Chytil as a player, but losing Strome's production will kill this team next season.

I would trade Buchnevich if it meant opening the extra cap to sign Strome IMO.

i would trade Buchnevich to resign Strome and trade Skjei to resign DeAngelo long-term and try to resign Kreider, losing his speed will hurt more than some realize, Kreider has the ability to back the defense off, he also can draw penalties and negate icings

Resign Kreider after trading him? I'd kick the tires, but I've already come to the conclusion he'll be priced out.

Regarding DeAngelo, given the Rangers sudden depth at RD and his reputation as a hot head (although he seems to be improving in this regard), I'd be surprised if the Rangers commit long-term.

I meant resigning Kreider before the trade deadline, not in the offseason. teams should not know that the Rangers would try to bring him back in the offseason, which I think would hurt the value the Rangers end up getting in the deal when traded in my opinion.

Maybe this is an odd mentality, but I believe there is something to be said for chemistry. I think that we have found 3 pairs that work on the forward lines. Zbad and Krieder, Stome and Panarin and Chytil and Howden. I think Howden has looked better on the wing and him and chytil have played well together. I'm a cautious person so my thinking is a bit more on the side of being worried about breaking these seemingly strong pairs. We just need to find the final piece for each line. I think Kakko with Zbad and Krieder would work and Lemiuex could be good with Strome and Panarin. Of course, who really knows, but the one that is out of place feels like Buchnevich. I dont know. I guess we will know more in 3 weeks.

Thing is we need wingers.

Geo is the easy move because we have the goalies right now. I also believe that his value won't drop. He's a really good player. No rush.

The problem with Kreider is two-fold: If we resign him will he slip back into apparent apathy and mediocre play? If we trade him will he return a player with the same potential impact? I'm torn and I'm glad I dont have to make that decision. All I have to do is wait until Gorton decides and then post about it here lol. I'd be happy with either a refreshingly resonable contract or a super sick, young roster player in return. Easy, right? Get it done Gorts.

Now on to Strome. I've been vocal about how I value him as a versitile player. He's not a world beater but he's better than average. He excels on a line with our best players. Not everybody can hang with a Panarin, easy as it may seem. He can hang. He can also effectively play both center and wing in the top 6. If any combination of Zib, Panarin or Chytl are out of the lineup Strome can hold a place. How many other players can do that? He's a higher-end utility player and I see value in that for the Rangers now. I just hope he doesn't over-value himself and expect to be paid like a bona fide top line player because he's really only ever been that next to Breadman.
