If the nuge keeps playing this way, does anyone think he could take home the Selke this year? Top 10 In scoring at 1.2 per game, two way center who plays powerplay and penalty kill.

Is he playing against other teams top lines? Or is that still McDavid?

Nuges best game of the season and possibly one of the best games since his rookie season. For sure this season has been his best performance since rookie season.

Nuge stated that playoffs and last season showed him he had to increase his compete level on pucks and work on his shot. So the player had a focused off season and is knocking it out of the park. This is like value found when Nuge is reaching a new peak. Always thought he plays better with certain kinds of linemates and I feel like Kostin was that guy yesterday. Thought it was positive that Kostin and Janmark had the first scoring play of the line last night and Nuge watching going "oh look at that" It was interesting and by the next shift Nuge knew he could work some magic with these guys and did. Kostin auditioned, Janmark auditioned, and Nuge wrote a script around it as Nuge can do.

Nuge is the best contract on this club this season. I'm not at all sure I'd be saying that. Kostin and Janmark are good contracts to. We just have to use them and keep using them.

Bergeron's name is basically pre-written on it every year
In fairness look what Boston put together most regular seasons. They are the top club in the league. Trophy is on basis of regular season performance.

He is playing the best of his career right now. 41 points in 34 games. Would be amazing if he could hit 82 and be a point a game player.

McDavid, Draisaitl and RNH centering the top 3 lines is when this team is the best. They get to play together on the powerplay.

When Kane comes back put him with McDavid. Hyman is there to play wing on the top 2 lines as well. Number one need is a defenseman who plays defense but another winger wouldn’t be a bad idea too.

I hope the hockey world realizes how impressive it is to have Nuge in the top 10 in scoring considering his 5/5 linemates, and the fact he has more goals points, and even strength goals than last year's so-called MVP almost halfway thru the season is also very impressive, and if you look in the top 10 or even 20 in scoring those players are all top line or number 1 Dman for there teams. Hats off to Nuge on an incredible season so far

The Oilers really scored with getting these two guys in their late 20s who are getting better every year locked up at around $10m combined in Hyman and Nuge. They would probably get $14-15m combined on the open market if they tested free agency. It sort of offsets the Nurse overpayment.
Nurse and Campbell is 14.25 M and that gets you a 1B goalie and 2 good defence men

There was one shift yesterday in I believe it was the early second period where he had something like 4 takeaways in the offensive zone. Masterful stuff.
There was one sequence where he kept the puck in right at the blue line like three separate times within 15 seconds. Masterful stick work and positioning. The Stars player just stood there in awe at one point.

A bright spot in what's been a mildly disappointing season for the club.

His play this season is definitely worthy of the praise.

Thanks RNH, you've been a pleasure to cheer for and hopefully you can rub it off on a few others.

Said it before, and I'll reiterate. He is playing at a Selke level, IMO.

The Oilers would likely have given them the 14-15 mill combined as well, had they not given them long term deals. That was the key. And that's the probable reason Holland has given some of the lower lifes those multi year head scratching deals - to keep their yearly cap hit down on a team that is up against it.

Guys who get outscored at 5v5 don't usually get Selke votes.

It'll be Bergeron again anyway. He's somehow having a better year than he did last year.

@Gregsky99 it was a genuine question. I haven’t been watching much. Mostly highlights.
If you had the chance/desire to watch the games, you would see what people are talking about - no offence to you if you've been unable to watch. The highlites only show his goals and assists. That's just the end product. What's really impressive is all the other stuff he's doing that doesn't show up in highlite packages.

So for instance, last game his line as on for a GA...

Nurse was drifting in fantasyland and Kostin failed to stop the goal scorer.
Raw data without context often gets spit out with misleading, often wrong conclusions. We see it on this site a fair bit. Regarding Nugent Hopkins strangely it's often been supplemented by the pin the tail on the Nuge confirmation bias that pounces on the player's mistake to reinforce gaps/weaknesses while missing subtle plays that help his team.

Nugent Hopkins is a very good quality support player on a solid contract with excellent versatility to play in all situations including stepping into 2C responsibilities with guys like Janmark and rotating right wingers. Showed well in the deep playoff run and is over achieving on a team that's very leaky in its vital goal suppression work. Don't give a shit about Selke status which is often a reputation based thing.

Very good quality support guy who doesn't shirk the dirty work and fully bought in 9 coaches ago to slotting in how and where this team needs him. This year, the yeoman work has just been more obvious with the scoring bump.

Never doubted his offensive talents. He may not be a #1 like McDavid or Mackinnon, but he's smart, can pass, shoot, skate. Give him the opportunites to put up points and that's exactly what a guy like him will do.

Hes reliable, smart player, that sometimes having down seasons. Good skater, good passing, and one surpsingly good shot.

What to do with Yamamoto and Puljujärvi?
Yamamoto doesnt fit draisaitl, he doesnt fit Nuge. Does he fit McDavid?
He has to play with McLeod then
