The biggest frustration with this team is definitely how poorly they've managed giving McDonagh a proper RD partner and making adjustments to the situation.

Wasting away the career of a Top-15 Dman.

It's not like McDonagh's talent and contributions are not noticed and appreciated. I'm sure they know that he would be even better with a better partner. 'Wasting away' seems kind of extreme. As long as he is pulling his weight and more, which he most definitely is, that's what counts.

He has the talent and consistency of a norris trophy defenseman and it's not being shone because has a pile of garbage biting on his ankle every shift.

He could be so much more with just an NHL partner, let alone a partner with comparable talent.

Karlsson is good defensively.

McDonagh couldn't hold Karlsson's jock strap on either side of the rink and I LOVE McD.

Imagine Karlsson with McD, now that would be fun....

But honestly, McD has had some really good games this year and for awhile he was playing his best hockey in 2 years. But its died off abit. And he's had some noticeable bad games. Maybe put Holden back with McD. I think thats probally a good first pair for us right now.

Staal Giardi and Klein can have fun with Skej and/or Clendening. Honestly if Girardi was scratched and Clendening played for him, i think our team D would improve significantly.

No way. McD is way better than 65 in his own end. One on one battles, stick work, board battles, more physical. Karlsson is a better skater and offensive d man but other than that I do not see how he couldn't hold his jock in any zone.

Karlsson's ability to drive offense annihalates that of any other defenseman in the league, and he's good enough defensively (in particular the neutral zone) to keep defending to an absolute minimum. McDonagh might be better in his own zone but Karlsson is better at keeping his team on offense, which is preferable to being good in your own zone imo.

Fair enough

Ironic how much better McDonagh's stats are/were with a Stralman, or even just a Klein over Girardi.

I also agree on that. Karlsson is out of this world. Imagine if he had a better partner than Methot(and Methot isn't that bad I don't think).

Rightfully so.

If I had two McDonagh's I'd trade them both for Karlsson.

I'd much rather have 2 McDs.

Only question is...would you run McD #2 on his off-side on the first pairing with McD #1

or

Would you keep both McDs on their natural side and run McD #1 on the first pairing and McD #2 on the second pairing.

I think I'd split up the McDs and run them on separate pairings.

We'd be deep as hell on D with 2 McDs!

Trade him yesterday.

He is a #3 defenseman.

A glorified quality skater with average defensive skills....AND LITERALLY ZERO OFFENSIVE SKILLS. ZERO SLAP SHOT CAPABILITIES. 12 YEAR OLDS HAVE STRONGER WRIST SHOTS THAN HIM.

The definition of overrated.

K.

Show me the advanced stats again. I cant wait to see the charts again of how amazing he is.

I wanna know how him being on the 1st pp unit can be justified. I wanna know how is pathetic wrist shot can be excused. I wanna know how is mental lapses can be ignored. His poor defensive play is ok.

He isnt a young up and coming prospect anymore. There isnt some ceiling that hasnt been reached.

He is frustratingly bad. Poor poor decisions with the puck.

He is not a captain. I know that may make some here furious inside there sensitive stomachs. But he is not captain material. And thats ok. But take the C away and let him be a #2-3 defenseman.

If you think he is a #1...seriously think he is a #1...then show me how he is better than a lot of teams #2's at this point in his career. He is a glorified quality skating defenseman that helps him get by. He is a guy who is the #1 on a team by default but not a true #1.

The one single thing is agree with you on is he's not a captain. Brian Leetch was the same way. Both are great talents but their not leaders.
