He doesn't even need a Trouba, just give him someone average. Klein's been fine with him in the past...

McDonagh now t-6 for points among NHL defenseman. What he does with Dan Girardi is incredible. This guy would be in Norris contention with a solid partner.

hes such a bittersweet player because hes amazing but the coach and fo are content with saddling him next to arguably the worst player in hockey

McDonagh is on pace for over 50 points this year. 10 points more than his career high, while also shooting a career worst shooting percentage.

Now that's a sign of just playing flat-out better hockey.

He's been incredible this year. His numbers away from Girardi are stupid.

Machine, any way of knowing what McD's corsi is with and without G?

Just a heads up, stats.hockeyanalysis.com and corsica.hockey are great websites that have a lot of data and info on them. If you ever have questions, don't hesitate to ask.

This season, McDonagh is 43.9 CF% with G, 55.2% away from him. G is 39.9% away from McDonagh.

Thanks man. Never really looked into corsi that much because I cannot stand math to begin with and the numbers overwhelmed me as far as the CF's and all that but it definitely has interested me as of late. I will check out those sites.

That is scary. 39 without Mac? Ughhh.

The biggest frustration with this team is definitely how poorly they've managed giving McDonagh a proper RD partner and making adjustments to the situation.

Wasting away the career of a Top-15 Dman.

He will unfortunately not win. Same guys considered every year. Karlsson will put up 70+ but is nowhere near as good defensively as McD but he will win bc it is based off points.

I mean...Karlsson still has a bigger impact on games than McDonagh even though I think there are several things that McDonagh does better than Karlsson. It's just that the things that Karlsson does well, he does REALLY REALLY well. I think McDonagh does a fantastic job 1 on 1 against guys and his board work and plays with the puck along the boards are all top notch, and sure he can skate it out as well, but Karlsson also has a fantastic stick and great hands for stealing pucks and his passing and skating to turn it the other way is best in the league, and when he gets into the offensive zone he knows what to do with the puck, whereas McDonagh isn't as much of a threat there.

Basically, Karlsson deserves to win the Norris' he does, it's just "bad luck" that McDonagh is playing in a time with a great defenseman dominating the spotlight and that McDonagh doesn't have a partner worth a damn to give him a bit of help

Rightfully so.

If I had two McDonagh's I'd trade them both for Karlsson.
