I'm okay with taking the pick if it is used to acquire another top four defenseman. Move Joker to 5, and create some defensive depth.

Eh, watching the Amerks, I don't see him easily displacing the veteran Bartkowski, or their top D-man in Pilut, so that leaves Davies... who draws the hardest assignments yet is probably their most mobile blueliner. That's the LD compliment and at the moment it would be him replacing Davies who is one of the more mobile blueliners in their group. The slow guys are the RD in Prow and Cecconi but again, Prow is on their top minute pair and Cecconi is being used with Davies in the shutdown role.

At this moment in time, the slow ones give them something he would not - experience and applied size - that they would still need even if Johnson were in the Amerks lineup.

He might even go back to Minnesota for next year if he doesn't sign in Buffalo or anywhere else. Who knows, it's not like anyone is finding out directly from him.

Yep. Though there is one carrot that seems unlike Adams SOP but that he gets some guaranteed NHL time next year as part of signing.

Perhaps his advisor has found there isn't the demand out there they thought there might be in a particular location, so he's circling back to Buffalo. Also the follow up to the comment is that they are fine with the pick as well. That speaks to what the team thinks of the player and may speak to how Johnson is assessed by others as well.
maybe he overplayed his card about the demand, one thing Adams is good at is not buckling down, like in the Eichel saga.

I don't understand what he's waiting.

At this point is there really any incentive at all for Johnson to not test free agency and see what else is out there?

Personally I think Adams wants the pick, but he realizes that the ELC the Sabres offered may end up being one of the more attractive offers Johnson receives, so he might come back around and sign.

I'm not a journalist........ their NYC office number is available.

Edit: I called the NYC number and left a message with a receptionist. Told her I was with the Hockey's Future sports website. I won't get a call back.
Must’ve gotten the call and changed his mind
