Lee you have a strong business background. There are much better ways to send messages. This is just business. Allowing this to get outside can cause serious damage to the team.

It's unprofessional i.e. amateurish.

Holy Crap Batman! With a strong business background comes a bit ( if not a lot) of cynicism. Are you really that Pollyannish? And how about a rival leaking it to try and drive the price down? Or Overhardt to help speed up the process? Or as Lee suggested to send yet another message to Joey? Lots of possibilities.

Thank you for the compliment. And you're right about there being better ways to send messages. But what if those alternate methods have already been exhausted?

Six pages of people grumbling about something that has not happened and probably will never happen. This board is soooooo substantive.

Oh, and while we are at it, let us continue to bash the new coach with the winning record because sometime in the unknown, unspecified future the team may "tune him out".

Sheesh.

Sheesh.

For the record, I think Torts is doing pretty darn well. It's rare for a coach to last more than 3 years in the same city these days anyway.

OK. Then you don't trade him unless you get a king's ransom in return - including a #1 defenseman.

Agreed Lee

Way too soon to give up on him

as I recall He made the great pass to Dubi for the game tying goal in the playoff run 2 years ago

It's not like we are talking about someone just potential, he's already put up big numbers and made big plays......somehow Torts just needs RJ to turn the key on and play with more emotion...more aggressive....like wild Bill IMO

A 4 or 5 game winning streak with 3-4 goals from RJ all this nonsense talk will cease

my 2 cents

about game time :popcorn::popcorn:

Pollyannish? too funny

If whichever of these FO guys was strong, other GMs would not leak it for fear they would get shut off. If this is coming from a GM and I would suspect it is, it means Jarmo is not respected.

Overhardt? Leaking this hurts Overhardt.
As I said there are much better ways to send messages.

I thought RJ played well tonight

Given in a game with all those hits you better be engaged or you'll be on your ass

Put the puck where he need to to get the first goal

Not sure what Pewguin it was but early in the 3rd period he sent one of them flying 3 or 4 feet in the air with a great check......it was one of the better checks in the game

He also won 2 key face offs in the OT

If Jarmo trades Joey, he is fair game to criticize if the return is not what you'd like. But you are reading way too much into this report in assigning blame to Jarmo for the 'leak'. Dreger said that while GMs would generally get shut down quickly in the past when they asked about Joey, Jarmo is now asking what their offer would be if he was on the table. 'Softly in play' doesn't mean he's being actively shopped. When a team is not meeting expectations, stuff like that is bound to happen.

I don't think Dreger is iron-clad when it comes to rumors like this, but even if it is true, it was probably just some GM passing on info that he was surprised that he didn't get the usual 'Joey is off the table' answer when he called Jarmo. Reports like that aren't uncommon and I don't see how Jarmo, Lou or any other GM in the biz has any control over reports like that getting out. It has nothing to do with how the other GMs respect Jarmo.

After tonight's game, it looks like the message may have been received. He played a full 60 minute game. Glad to see it! Want to see it every night.

I agree that the Pens game was by far the best, most complete 60 minute effort that RyJo has given this year. And it showed. He scored the game tying goal from an amazing angle. The "First Line Center" Johanson did show the difference maker he can be when he gives his all.

I thought he was pretty quiet until he scored. I'd like to see him engaged a bit more but when he is on, he is very good. He kind of played similar in the SJS game where he was silent most of the game then turned it up mid third period. I was most excited to see him take a hard slap shot from the circle since that has been missing for a while. Hopefully it gives him something to build off of.

He has to shoot the puck. Don't know why he hasn't most of this season. The Rangers bad angle shot in the first game started our downfall so I hope RyJo's bad angle shot starts a run of wins for us.

Yes, he does have to shoot more, but you touched on the big thing. He has to get better skating without the puck and contributing when he's not "on." Part of that is physical play. Part of that is still being respected as a scoring threat even when he's in a funk (and that means continuing to shoot the puck on net.)

I dont think it's a matter of him getting better at the play away from the puck because he's been very good at it, the problem with him is his consistency. It needs to be every shift, not in the 3rd when we're down or I just got rocked so I'm gonna start trying now.

Well, there's that too. Good catch. I've observed his entire game suffers when he's not going 100%.

Johansen's play has been off most of this season, I'll admit to that.

Nonetheless, he's got great vision of the ice and doesn't just speed around at all times like less talented players do. He's got very good anticipation and he's going to look like he's floating at times when, in fact, he's just anticipating where the puck will be or where open ice might materialize.

Top notch offensive players don't play the game like grinders do. Effective playing styles vary with types of players. Skating around like a chicken-with-his-head-cut-off isn't the modus operandi of top players. Hustle spastics generally impress the less sophisticated fan.

In case anyone hasn't noticed, #19 is leading the CBJ in points and is tied for 53rd overall in the league.

That is crazy. I just wish his points weren't as quiet as most of them have been. I am hopeful he will start to warm up here.

There is a difference between anticipation and half assing it. He still has his moments, but at least he no longer is sucking wind while doing it.

He's not putting up as many goals so it's not as flashy. But we have Jenner, Hartnell and Saad all scoring goals which we didn't really have last season. What we really need is Foligno to pick up his scoring. He's got as many shots as Jenner and nothing to show for it.

For those to lazy to look up stats. That is in order of Shots. Saad with 63, Hartnell with 50. He's also tied for 2nd to last for +/- with -10 tied with Karlsson and only 1 ahead of Prout. He's also tied for 4th in PIM on the team.

I know stats aren't everything, but a quick snapshot tells you he is in need of some adjustments as this isnt typical of him. He's bound to shake it off eventually. . .right?
