I still remember that St Pattys day game when he came up and scored his 1st two goals so vividly. Knew he would be special.

Thanks for the memories and good luck. As much as I feel moving on from him was the right business decision, I still will miss the player.

There was something magical about that. Great memory.

Most overrated player in NYR history.

That being said, he was so good early in his career. His performance in 2011 before the Chara slapshot was where I thought he could've emerged as one of the best players in the world.

My all time favorite player. This year was hard for him as well as a fan of his. We all expected this moment. Glad we got back a player I also like and respect. Depending on how we do next year will determine how i think we did on this trade. If we do really well that 1st round draft pick is really just a glorified 2nd round pick. If we **** the bed then i will be bummed.

Going to miss you Cally, one of my favorite players, and a player who made me proud to be a Rangers fan. I liked the fact he was from upstate as well. Not going to lie, this one hurts a bit.

No team will pay him more than 6 years six million, and he will be lucky to get that. Great guy and all but greed got the best of him, pride did as well. Good Ranger, hardly in the top ten though.

Great, great Ranger. One of the best of my time as far as working hard and setting a solid example goes. He was the poster boy of the "new" Rangers and the death of the country club. I'll always be grateful to him for that.

Sucks to see him go, but I truly put this on both sides equally. Doesn't mean I won't miss seeing him out there.

Let's see who of the youngins will step up and be that leader going forward. Gotta keep looking ahead.

It will be weird seeing him on the other side, i'll miss Cally, his hustle, and his willingness to hit and block anything....St. Louis better play like he is capable of playing.

Will be missed. If he could have taken less, he'd be here. Felt management made their mind up a while ago. Held out for St. Louis and made it sound like it was close.

All in all, the guy is heart. He lays it's all out there. Have to admire it. Once was my avatar pic. Was a favorite.

Absolutely relentless, ferocious, infectious player. Hands kept getting better and better before all the injuries this year. Never, never would have seen this coming, not after the ECF run season.

It's going to be really hard watching him play for another team. Him, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Girardi, Staal, and Hank were all part of that wave of players who came up in the first few years after the lockout and worked their ***** off, gave this team an identity, and made them really easy to really honestly care about. It's surreal for most of them to be gone.

It may very well be for the better, in terms of the goal of winning a Stanley Cup. But it's surreal and sad all the same. Best of luck in Tampa (and probably Buffalo after than let's be real), Captain Cally.

Also I really really hope he gets massively overpaid this offseason, partially because hey good for him but mostly so I don't feel so bad about his not being able to come to fair terms with the Rangers.

I know its rare in this era, but he seemed like a Ranger lifer...but business is business. Best of lucky to Callahan in TB and wherever he ends up after that.

Most overrated player in NYR history.

It's the same with a lot of the grinders over the years. Ortemeyer, Callahan, York, etc were all overrated.

Overrated my ass. You don't know what you're talking about.

"Grinders" don't produce the way Callahan produced. And it's not just the points. But when he produced those points.

He was a damn good player for us and it's going to suck seeing him play elsewhere. He was a class act though. He epitomized what a Ranger should be with his hard work and devotion to this team. Maybe you didn't watch this team in the late 90's and early 2000's where guys played with absolutely zero urgency, emotion, and just showed up to collect a check.

Callahan was one of those guys to break that trend. And it's a shame that despite all his efforts, you have posters like yourself labeling him as overrated.

Speak for yourself! I question whether or not you've watched his play the last two seasons.

And when did he produce this points? Certainly not in the playoffs.

You just described Ryan Callahan this season.

Great Ranger. Love the guy. I have his jersey. Having said that, he became a legend in his own mind. Callahan out priced himself out of New York. He definitely was not worth what he was asking and the Rangers also felt this way. The Rangers, with AV, are going in a different direction, different style of play. I guess Callahan didn't fit in their plans for that money.

Having said that, I think the Rangers would have been better off getting a 2nd from San Jose and keeping the two 1st and 2nd (potential 1st). For those two picks, we could have gotten a younger, bigger, offensive player. If not, just keep the picks and draft the player you want.

One of the most important Rangers in the past 5-6 years. Big influence on the culture. I'll always be a fan.

I was at that game vs the jets where he scored that ridiculous goal in the OP. I remember being like "wtf is he doing OMG!!"

Can you maybe direct this to one of the 10 other threads that aren't about paying respects to Callahan? Don't need to read the same garbage over and over in this thread too.

So long Cally.

Didn't like the contract demands but still sad to see him go.

I wish it was 2012...
