There is no point in comparing him to guys like Barzal, Connor, Svechnikov until they're all developed and we know how they're careers are shaping up. He was a reach on draft day and he's an even bigger reach today. Maybe Sweeney and the crew saw something in him that others didn't. I would hope, for Bruins fans sakes, that his draft mentality wasn't anything like Burke's when he picked Schenn/Biggs/Ryan/etc (focusing too much on certain traits and ignoring much bigger things such as skill). There's probably a more likely chance than not that there will be guys picked right after him who have much better careers. But that's a testiment to how deep the draft was. Barzal and Connor shouldn't have dropped that low in the first place.

He does have some good upside but he will have to make huge strides to live up to his draft position in one of the deepest drafts since 2003. It's way too early to know how he'll do though so I think it's only fair to compare him to himself (improvements from last season) until the entire draft class establishes themselves.

The Bruins have enough pass first forwards. The Bruins wanted a big winger, not in weight yet, a right-handed shot, that can motor and put the puck in the net.

The Oilers have enough skilled forwards. They wanted a big defenseman, who can play a solid two way game. That's why they drafted Hanifin instead of McDavid.

point totals aren't everything....but...you'd at least expect him to be at a PPG pace. 15 points in 20 games isn't something to be impressed with. The guy was drafted to score and put points up and for someone in his 2nd full year who obviously Boston thought very highly of that they drafted him in the 1st round, you expect him to put up better totals than that so far.

Also it's not like the kid is small either, he's 6 ft 1 and 192 pounds, he should be dominating games.

You said it yourself. Anyone can read a stat line, but what is the context behind the numbers? I'm sure our OHL guy can explain the situation better, but basically all the offense that Senyshyn is putting up is the result of him self-producing. He hasn't had much help in finding a good center-atleast earlier in the year.

Virtanen played 4 seasons in juniors. In Virtanen's second year he scored 34 points in 62 games.

Senyshyn is in his second year. He has 15 pts in 20 games so far.

How about that?

Someone has an agenda and hates Sweeney..haha jeez

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Senyshyn has atleast one more year in Junior after this season. I believe they took him knowing he needs time, like most prospects.

You're telling me that Virtanen's 10 game stint in the WHL as a 15 year old was his first season - right..

All that matters is the players draft year - ie. when Virtanen was first eligible for the draft, he had 45 goals. When Senyshyn was first eligible for the draft, he had 45 points.

Given that Senyshyn and Virtanen also fall into the same draft year age-grouping (born between January and Sept. 15th) the above is even more relevant.

So you're comparing Virtanen's 16 year old season to Zach's 18-19 year old season and you're saying others have an agenda?

Also, if you count Jake's 10 game "season" then you have to count Zach's 4 game "season".

Given that Senyshyn was probably (*at least*) three years away from being a serious NHL contributor when the Bruins drafted him, it makes very little sense to draft on need versus taking the best player available. The team isn't going to look nearly the same at that point as it does now.

Senyshyn translates rather well to pro hockey. Big extremely fast goal scorer. Probably can be molded into a 40-50 point two-way guy.

He'll be a good player no question, safe pick. Still probably a reach at 15 though just considering that guys like Connor, Svechnikov, White were forwards still left on the board.

If some of you are interested on learning more about Seny, his role on the team and offensive stats should read Bostons prospects thread.
You'll find some great posts there giving you the answers.

He is a risky pick but with that skating he can turn into a deadly top6 winger.

i am a bruins fan and cant even stand going onto my own teams forums...its embarassing. some of them really believe senyshyn was a great pick and would have taken him top 5. most think debrusk will be a top 6 player. sadly, a very low minority of us, myself included, realize that senyshyn will be lucky to make the show and same with debrusk. you take best player available every time, and best player available was easily barzal, then connor, then konecny. and all three of these guys are showing this season why the bruins should have taken them. there will always be excuses for bruins fans. fact is senyshyn lacks hockey iq and will be a benoit pouliot at best. debrusk just doesnt have top end skill. sucks but imagine the bruins with barzal, konecny and connoor in the pipeline? all 3 could make their top 6 next season. not hard seeing as who they have there now i guess.
