I was talking about how he said that he doesn't have time right now to learn english.

Well if he didn't have time for that in school why would he have time for that during the season? Can't see what does it have to do with his NHL future. Like he would be the first Russian to come over without knowing English.

Well, Bragin said that after Buchnevich had a very very solid first season in MHL and took part in 4 nations(?) tournament playing for Bragin's U20 team, where he was the best Russia's scorer while being two years younger than the rest of the guys. But later his development... I wouldn't say it stopped, but it didn't go the way everyone supposed and hoped it would go. I don't know what level is Buchnevich on right now, but it's certainly not Malkin's level. I wouldn't even put him ahead of Kucherov, cause Kucherov was tearing MHL apart when he played there and he was simply the best or one of the best russian players on every tournament with national team. Buchnevich is very talented though. But he is not "next Malkin", no way, looks more something like Semin. Guys like Malkin do not born every single year in Russia, not even once a decade I believe.

Buchnevich is on par with Kucherov. He was a 2PPG player in the MHL last season's playoffs, and MHL is a way lower scoring league than CHL. And don't forget that Kucherov had Gusev, Grigorenko, Prokhorkin around him, while Buchnevich was a one man army.

I don't know how many of you watch Buchnevich play, but he's not secondary player who chips in a few points without being impressive.

When he steps on the ice, he absolutely stands out. Watching him in the KHL, you don't even have to know which one he is to watch #89 and say thats the player with the ability to be one of the best wingers in the NHL. Its just so apparent that his talent is at an absurd level.

What ever happened to Gusev ?

Will Buchenevich come over ?

All signs point to the end of this season or next season. He said he didn't think he was ready for it this season.

With the whole Russian thing, Kreider speaks Russian so that should help I would think.

And Omark absolutely stands out too. And Zuccarello wasn't impressive at all. Sure, he has potential to be a very good player but overall, this post doesn't make whole lot of sense.

Is he Malkin? No

Will he be like Malkin in the NHL? LIKELY NO

Is he a TOP Russian prospect? YES

Is he a top NHL forward prospect? YES.

Is he a a potential top line NHLer? YES.

Does this help? That's Buch in a nutshell.

I don't actually know if Kreider speaks that much Russian though.

How is he doing in the KHL so far this season? Is he tearing it up?

Not at all. 1+1 and -З in 6 games. But it's too early to say something.

Thats just the stat line. I've watched parts of some of the games. He's been really good, but his team is terrible. He creates a lot offensively, for himself and his teammates. He also has a big role on the PK. He's their best player, but they are relying on a 20 year old to carry the team. If he was playing on a good team on a good line, I think he'd be a PPG player this season.

Pretty underwhelming, but it's early. Seems to be a little over hyped at this stage.

Over-hyped? What do you me...

...oh

The difference is that I am watching the games (as much as I have time to).

I'm not just looking at the box score. That can be very deceiving, and in this case it is. His line mates are not very good and his team plays horrible defense. If he was playing for CSKA Moscow or SKA on a line with teammates who are of his skill level, I think he'd have a PPG by now.

Tough to have a 20 year old carry your team. Just hoping this doesn't kill his confidence or anything (not that Russians ever lack confidence or anything...) He will be a fine NHL player if he comes over, definite top 6 guy, and most likely a decently big name top line forward by the time he is 24.

I'd venture a guess that it's likely more beneficial to his development to truly have to work for his production rather than to ride shotgun with another star. The most valuable skill in the NHL for offensive players is the ability to create offense, and that's exactly what he would be working on playing with weaker players.

Seriously...it's worth pointing out that guys like Nigel Dawes (since this is a mostly Rangers thread I'm guessing) really stand out. Linus Omark couldn't crack Edmonton's roster when they were horrific and he's probably the most electrifying player in that league outside of Kovy.

Good prospect? Sure. Definitely a great NHL player because he can create offense in the KHL? Nope.

he's a good in the khl, but that's it, nothing spectacular. and he and kovy are on the tier below radulov. who's been dominating the khl like a boss for quite some time now.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine KHL without Radulov. Absolutely the best player in the league, nobody is even near.
