I'm not going to get into this childish debate, but Pulju was amazing after the WJC's and he after his injury he pretty much picked up where he left.

Pulju after WJC. 20 games 8 + 8 = 16 points = 0,8 ppg, only 2 ES goals.

Not dominance even statwise.

Pulju has not outplayed Laine, it's the opposite if someones outplayed someone.
What the hell is this debate even about? Neither of them haven't been exactly the key-players for their teams. Both have been injured and have had their cold-and-hot-streaks.

Right now Laine seems to play better but it's not too long ago when Jesse was banging them in and Patrik was struggling,

I'm not bothering with this. Your facts and numbers are also wrong here. Just browse back few pages and you should see what we were discussing about it. As always i appreciate your unconventional but entertaining feedback.

My numbers are not wrong.

Playoff points so far.
Pulju 4 games 2g+1a=3p = 0,75ppg
Laine 7 games 3g+2a=5p = 0,71ppg

Also Pulju still has only 2 ES goals in his 23 games after WJC.

EDIT. I browsed back few pages and saw what you were talking about. That was during march where Laine had 4 off games and made 0 points in 4 games in total in march. Tappara had secured that 3rd spot in regualar season in february so Tappara didnt play that good in march.
Laines January and february were on the other hand much better and he had over 1 ppg during that time.

Today Laine showed everybody why he should be picked before Puljujärvi. Laine has so much higher ceiling than Pulju and im kind of surprised people in HFboards doesnt seem to see it. Puljus hockey iq is just average, wrister is average, only thing he got over Laine is skating really and Laine has plenty of time to develop it. Laine is amazing and will be best player from this draft.

I totally agree with what you wrote here.

And wrister is something Pulju can't work on??

Pulju beats him in skating, D-play and just play without the puck, Laine has better hands, better shot and is more physical right now.

If anything Pulju is more raw of the 2 and has more potential to develop.

So far in these 2 games they've shown they are 50-50.

But I totally agree with what you wrote here also.

It was actually discussed on this topic or Puljujarvi topic before and the consensus was that Puljujarvi has been better post-WJC. laine seemed very tired and wasn't that good and Puljujarvi was and is just on fire. But it's always nice to have unconventional opinions so i appreciate your feedback.

There definitely has not been any clear concensus here about that. Both have been very good after WJC, and both have had some weaker moments even after WJC. But altogether both have showed why they are so highly touted prospects. I think they have both been quite equally good and productive, but I also think that it has to do with Pulju getting so much advantage of getting to play almost all the time with Aho. Ok, it is slightly evened up with Laine also getting to play quite much with Kuusela on the Tappara power plays. But still at the moment I do see Laine as the better player than Pulju. As prospects though I see them at quite the same level. Pulju has all the potential also, but he is clearly the rawest talent at the moment. Puck handling at full speed, wrister release and using his wrister efficiently and general hockey IQ are the areas where I see that he has to still develop quite a lot to became an NHL elite class player. But I do see at least some possibilities in this happening in maybe a couple of years. And I definitely hope it will happen. But Aho and even Laine are clearly closer to that NHL elite level, and with both of them I am almost sure that they will reach it.

Im starting to come around to trading the #1 pick down to #2 to take Laine if I am Edmonton or the Canucks.

Unfortunately can't get this video to work. Does it work for all of you others here?

Yes it works here.

After watching that video NOONE can't say that Laine wasn't dominating in playoff game againt Kärpät.

Best one was BusQuests saying Laine has major problems in 5v5 game :D

Edit: 15 shots today btw.

Patrik Laine is one hell of a power forward.

I think he will be the best player in the draft and a generational talent

He's hockey smarts are off the charts. Seemed to be everywhere today and Laine is absolutely lethal when he rockets into the zone. If there's any space in the middle, he finds a way to exploit it. Otherwise he'll generate plays from the wing. He's finishing checks and tackling grown up men on the boards. Just an intimidating presence on the ice amongst the adults at the age of 17. That's what I enjoy the most. Could have had more points today but overall grade A game. He'll be the guy to replace a hole left by Selänne in a Finnish hockey within the couple of next years already. I hope I can keep my interest up somehow with FEL after he'll be gone by the end of the season.

Laughed at the sight of him getting the puck to full speed in the neutral zone, that's nearly 6'5 guy skating like a wind past everyone.

Still, it's Ovechkin with slightly less speed and predatory attitude. He is able to throw huge checks and at times does but Ovechkin when coming to NHL hit to hurt and rammed everyone in his sights without fear. Some team is going to be incredibly lucky to grab him at #2.

Patrik Laine's performance from today's game in shift by shift video.

He's ok.

He shows mighty impressive things for a guy his age in a playoff game in a league of the Sm-Liiga's caliber. He seemed to be absolutely toying with opposing defensemen, but he also looks to be a bit of a puck hog at times there.

Unless you expect him to be clearly better than McDavid, he's not generational. He's good, and a top 3 talent in all recent drafts, but if he was generational he should be destroying Barkov's numbers. A 35 to 40 goal season as a rookie would be a reasonable expectation if he was a generational talent whose game is based on being a sniper. I'd say his rookie year would be a massive success if he is around .35 gpg and .65-70 ppg. He's good, but since the McDavid hype this term is getting used way too loosely.

This guy has 1st liner written all over him. I am having trouble believing that video is real, he is absolutely toying with grown men as a 17 yr old. What a time for Finnish hockey - some really great talents coming out of your programs over the last few years.

Kind of apples to oranges, but what would Laine's production translate to in the NLA, for any who actively watch those two leagues? Scoring is generally higher in Switzerland, correct?

In the 2013 Hockey Abstract the NHLe for the NLA is .36, for the SM-Liga its .30. With highly talented youngsters its very hard to tell as this primarily uses numbers by journeymen crossing leagues.

Not sure how accurate NHLE is for european teams yet but BTN has NHLE for NLA at .44 and NHLE for Liiga at .54.

Doing the math (regular season only), Laine would have 40.5 points in his 46 NLA games played (or score at a rate of .880 ppg).

Matthews has 46 points in 36 games (1.28ppg)
