How can the conversation be anything else but positive he has 2 goals 2 assists in 5 games playing on the flyers. Looks pretty good out there if you caught a game or two of his.

Do the detractors want him to have 11 points in 5 games while having early selkie votes? Why is the conversation here not positive? Am I missing something? Seems like it should be a circle jerk in here , pretty decent start for him.

Is everybody on this site just biased?

Assuming that is a rhetorical question.

Michkov might be the best Russian prospect in a generation, but IMO he was never a true generational prospect for the same reason Bedard wasn't, despite what their counting stats might have shown.

Both guys lacked the necessary elite athletic/physical abilities needed to create significant time and space.

That said, he's going to be a fantastic player for a long time. I suspect he's gonna make SJ, Montreal, and Arizona regret passing on him.
We already regret it.

Arizona isn't going to regret not wasting a draft pick on a kid that wouldnt answer their phone calls.

It should be positive, and it mostly is. But the Michkov stalker fans have created a lot of backlash. I'm talking about the people who go around and denigrate other prospects for not being Michkov. Or the people who talk about how genius he is for throwing a puck on net to try and get a rebound. That makes it harder to have a conversation when he actually does do something special.

What could they have gotten for Michkov at 2024 draft, I wonder.

In general I think teams in that situation should just take the best player and trade him later. Maybe picks 2-5 from the 2024 draft would have been on the table for Michkov if the news had come out that he would come over after a trade.

But then again when I look at those clubs in 2024, largely the same ones who passed on Michkov the first time, I could see a lot of them having reasons (good and bad reasons) to prefer other picks. I didn't like Chicago taking Levshunov, but they seem to think drafting more small forwards would be a mistake. The Ducks, as we have talked about, go to the beat of their own drum, and haven't taken many players out of Russia. In general, don't expect what you think or what most public lists think to be what Ducks scouts think.

The Jackets might have preferred Michkov to Lindstrom, there was uncertainty for both. But one is huge and the other very short, and we know how scouts think. We've had so much drama already about Montreal passing on Michkov, do you think they would have traded their pick for him? Demidov is the faster more robust more complete player, and I could see some choosing him anyways.

Basically Arizona probably would have wasted their time if they drafted Michkov and then traded him a year later.

Well, he leads the team in scoring. As a 19 year old rookie. And his +/- isn't the worst on the team. Yeah, it's more about how the Flyers are bad, than MM is good, but still. And I'd say he looks pretty decent overall. When your $6.2M linemate has 1 point, 5 points in 6 games isn't even decent, but very good.

From preseason it was evident that Michkov was already the flyers best player ( I know this is not overly impressive) but people pushed back when I said this and retorted that his stats were due to only preseason and that the vets were taking it easy. People thought I made that statement just by counting stats.

You evaluate his overall play and his skills. The early regular season is proving that he is by far the flyers best player, but someone can say Michkov has 5 points, Laughton has 4 points. They are similar.

Watch the games and it is clear as day. I dont remember during the regular season where a teammate has set him up for a prime scoring chance yet....and no I do not count the 2nd goal in edmonton as a prime set up where michkov received the puck near the goal line.

Is he perfect ? Not at all, still need some man strength and improve skating top speed which I also mentioned will determine his ultimate ceiling. If he doesn't improve those 2 things, I don't think he will be a superstar/potential MVP candidate like some are saying.

But so far he has not disappointed considering all the circumstances.

A scouting report before the 23 draft mentioned this very possible problem where finding linemates for Michkov would not be simple, because he does not play like a typical forward. He will need the proper complementing pieces to extract all of his talents. This applies to all players, but not to Michkov's degree.

If the Flyers continue to play like this there is a good chance they will draft someone close to Michkov by talent.

Anyone in here trashing Michkov at this point has an agenda already blocked all of them. It’s insane some of you haven’t, it’s not even debating or anything it’s blatant jealousy and anger. Why respond to them?? Guys 19 years old and if you know puck and watch it’s very clear he’s the top dog already.

Flyers are miserable to watch right now. Every player handles Michkov’s passes like a grenade
That Johnson fumble on feed on the wide open net had me sick lol, the Konecny flub when he was perfectly fed directly infront of the net and heeled it and it went way high, like holy shit lol. I think these guys aren’t use to getting these feeds we’ll see how they are by game 40-50. I’ve seen literally nothing that suggests Michkov won’t be PPG at least in his rookie season, even with this pig slop team.

5p in 6gp is pretty impressive, but his poor puck luck makes it even more notable. His all situations on ice shooting percentage is only 7.25% - that should be well north of 10%. The Flyers yet to score a 5v5 goal with him on the ice despite 77 shot attempts, 35 shots on goal, and 2.78 expected goals... He should probably have 7-8 points right now while playing on a pretty bad team.

I love how strong this kid is on the puck. You can tell he's put in a ton of work in the last 2-3 years strengthening his core. He wins so many puck battles down low and can hold on to pucks a lot longer than he should be able to.

He's like a mini Crosby in the offensive zone, without the elite agility. He's got the same type of vision with the puck and anticipation around the net. He's not as dynamic as Bedard in open ice, but I think he might already be the more effective, well rounded offensive player, especially against tighter checking opponents.

If he could skate like Sid he'd be taking the league apart. As a devils fan I'm pretty pissed at the teams that picked 4-6 and let him go to the Flyers.

Im very excited to see how his skating can and will improve. If he can add just a little bit of speed and agility, he should live up to the hype that most normal headed fans have of him.

He might F around and outscore Bedard this year!!***

***Its a joke people, hes not going to outscore Bedard this year.

Yeah this is the vibe I get watching him too. When the skating improves, he's going to be able to create the separation he needs to really let the skills shine.

Get bobby brink's skating coach for him. Brink last year was a worse skater than current michkov, so it is definitely possible.

Right now Michkov is just outhinking and outmaneuvering defenses, but if he combines that with slightly improved skating/power then I can see him ending up as a top 10 player in the NHL.

Probably not, but it's not out of the question if Michkov gets some good puck luck and Bedard continues to struggle converting on his perimeter wristers.

I'd say a bigger factor is the team around him, it's very clear he is a step ahead of every single teammate re: how he's reading the game / finding position / distributing passes.

Is there any concern with Bedard shooting after his injury ? He’s got 2 goals in his last 21 games, that’s a very low number for a sniper like him
