i just can't wait to see his game after he spends time improving skating next offseason. He will be good as is, but if he gains a step skating, the ceiling will rise significantly. Will unlock his whole arsenal.

I can agree with this, and when he’s fully physical mature will be a force for sure, I want him to shoot more, I think he’s trying to fit in with the boys and passing a little too much, guys shot is really good he needs to let it go

Just so people can calm down a bit, here is Bedard's first 6 NHL games as a rookie: 0G 2A and -6.

Give the kid some room to breathe.
Just an FYI, those stars aren't correct. Not going to look it up right now, but Bedard got his first NHL goal in his second game, so those stats are definitely not accurate.

Michkov looks good, though.

I find he’s very hunched over. I think he’ll be good but there is some Quasimodo in his game

He's essentially in a sprint position. He uses it to push off quickly and he explodes into small spaces. It's really interesting. Someone should slash his legs really hard when he does that, it could neuter him.

Still it's evident that he's kinda slow. Russians tend to be excellent skaters but somehow, Michkov's skating was always awkward, especially for a smaller guy. There's certainly a lot of potential for the Flyers to unlock. Having said that, he'll need to get stronger as well so we'll see how those two are gonna go together.

Certainly a good start for Michkov though. Already has his first point and even played in OT vs Vancouver.

Actually Bedard had 1G/2A in his first 3 games in the NHL as a rookie

For someone who has a "really good" shot he certainly doesn't seem to have any confidence in it. So little confidence that he passed to someone whose stick was actively pressed by a defender. His entire approach to the net was done with zero thought of making an attempt to score himself. He is locking himself into making passes. Why would someone do that? He should be trying to lunge into that extra bit of space toward the slot and finding a spot to shoot. Shooting where he is or doing what I described are the only good options really

So, If Michkov has 3 points in his next game, he's better, please explain your logic? Insanity. Why do you even like this team, you seem like a closet hater 100%. This pass is a goal 8/10 times, just didn't work out, like huh?

How is it a goal 8/10 times? When Michkov made that pass TK's stick was literally sat on by the entire force of a man's weight and strength. How is TK going to get it in the net? Have you ever played hockey like lol

Just hilarious how I’ve been saying he’s slow since before the draft and everyone on here seemed to take issue with that…until now. Further proof that this place is full of pretenders who have no clue what they are talking about and never watch these guys until they set foot on NA ice.

Highly recommend people use the search function of the site to look for posts made by Garbageyuk that include Michkov. Dozens of deranged takes from a clueless Montreal homer.

Isn’t Michkov older than 18 like Bedard was?

Edit: and I think it’s very safe to say that Chicago was a way worse team than Philly is this year.

The thread has moved on to the barganing stage of depression after putting so many unrelistic expectations and pressure on this kid. Preseason and Russian hockey are totally different thatn what he is experiencing now.

In his defense, not being able to play against the best of his peers has hurt his development. I sitll think sometime in the AHL would do him so good.

You really think his best option was to shoot from that position when the goalie covers pretty much the whole net?

LOL... where was your criticism when Michkov had 4 SOG against the Canucks? Besides that, Michkov had a really good game against the Flames. Several high danger passes which his teammates couldn't convert. He looked a little bit nervous against the Canucks. But if he continues like he did in the last game, the goals and points will come.

Even with the start he had he already looks like a top 3 player for the Flyers and the main force on the PP. How does the other 2023 picks are doing so far (especially those drawn before him)? Simashev not in the NHL, Reinbacher is a total fiasco and the fresh prince is not looking like an NHLer for now.

The guy goes 2nd overall if not for the shady contract situation which he played to his advantage when hand picking a team he actually wanted to go to.

How is not playing against the best of his peers hurt development? He played in the KHL. Any KHL team would easily defeat a WJC team for instance.

I don't think there have been many unrealistic expectations at all. 50-60 points (which seems to be the prediction by most posters) seems very reasonable.

And what good exactly would AHL do for Michkov? He has played 2 seasons in a better league, and he absolutely does look like a good NHLer already (even despite looking a bit nervous, starting his first game on the LW and playing more of a setup game).
