The leaky org played it pretty close to the vest in this case. Michkov was invited to the Voorhees training center on Sunday and they closed the place so nothing would leak. Twitter message gave no explanation, found it was odd as there were games scheduled.
Bedard has imo no exceptional skill. Even his highlights were relatively unimpressive with most of him destroying German speaking teams.
Tweet: Please be aware that we are cancelling today’s remaining games and events. We apologize for any inconvenience.Didn't they say there was outage or like?
Well said, agreedSo he ended up at #7 and Philly, I'm happy.
About the "he shoots like Matthews and skates like McDavid... you can't overhype him!" no 1 OA - I'm convinced that purely by talent, Michkov is the best player of the draft. Bedard has a super professional attitude/approach and is already very well trained. Michkov has still has a lot of room to grow here. And besides his shot, Bedard has imo no exceptional skill. Even his highlights were relatively unimpressive with most of him destroying German speaking teams. But Bedard deserved the #1 and Chicago did everything right.
The Ducks and Jackets took the easy, low-risk path from their point of view. But Carlsson and Fantilli will not be the bus drivers on the way to a possible cup. However, I did enjoy Carlssons interviews. I like his natural confidence, he certain has some kind of boss aura. Maybe the Ducks picked their next Getzlaf here. Otherwise the Jackets staff and probably half of Ohio can look forward to being invited by Fantilli to his birthday parties - but that's all there will be to celebrate.
The Sharks should have picked Michkov. Strange preferring this year's U18 MVP to the two years ago, who was already dominating the tournament 16 years old. Smith is nowhere near Michkovs level. But you could play the fresh prince and create good vibes.
The losers of the draft are clearly the Habs. Price pulled himself out for the last seconds, but even that didn't help. Luckily for them, Reinbacher will make sure that no one forgets his name ever again. We could see that right in his face. And he has the talent and attitude to do so. Only a Michkov he is not.
The Yotes clearly picked accidentally the wrong Russian and thought we wouldn't notice if they just pick another Russian winger. I feel sorry for my Russian brothers who now have to serve in a gulag in the desert. But Im glad its not Michkov… who was already wearing the Yotes suit.
Congratulations Philly. Imo the winner of the draft.
Are there any character concerns with this kid? I saw a headline referencing something to that affect but it could just be anti-russian bias at this point.
He's a mean bastard. Loves to provoke opponents to do stupid things and can be harsh towards his teammates.
So he's basically a John Tortorella but on-ice...
It sounds like he made it clear that he wanted to play in a hockey market, and that he really likes the Flyers (and was on record about the Caps as well). It will be interesting to see whether Michkov refused to meet with and/or play for certain teams. I can’t imagine that’s the case but I’m also befuddled as to why teams like the Sharks and Habs seemed to have no desire to draft him.
Hope he's a hell of a lot smarter than Tortorella.So he's basically a John Tortorella but on-ice...
Nothing that has been documented. Unless you consider the country he is born and lives in to be a "character" concern. Are there any character concerns with this kid? I saw a headline referencing something to that affect but it could just be anti-russian bias at this point.
realistically if he was Canadian, people would love the edge he has on the ice and would be using the phrase "future captain"Well, he's probably as crazy about hockey as Torts.
He has a violent tenacity to score goals like Pavel and a smaller, compact jitterbug style. But Pavel skated like McDavid and had a slapper like Brett Hull. Michkov uses wristers and snappers to shoot darts and is more cerebral than Bure, with a faster processor. In terms of style, he reminds me most of Sergei Markov with some Sidney Crosby mixed in.Is it crazy to compare him to Pavel Bure? I mean his potential/style.
though i agree i put Bedard and Michkov as 1A and 1B in this draft...to say Bedard highlights are unimpressive nills this post imo...you could say all michkov highlights are just of him in the right spot at the right time i guess, but as a past scout i know there is nothing of luck and all IQ....also in those U18 Michkov was of age to be in the U18 where Bedard was an underager which gave michkov a whole year of deleipment and year of maturity over Bedard in the tournament...also only 2 points is what the difference was...Michkov won MVP but Bedard was right there...So he ended up at #7 and Philly, I'm happy.

I'm not surprised he fell down in the draft Stupid kid should have never signed that KLA extension.
