Lost my dad at an early age too, bit older than Michkov as I was 22/23 when it happened. It definitely f***s you up having someone who is in your life so much and a hero to you just go away like that. I hope that he's dealing with it well. I hope he has plenty of support of friends and family as well. Everyone deals with shit differently but I just hope that he's able to keep himself occupied and cope without something like substance abuse. Not saying he will but I know that NHL players already can have an issue with that, so I hope it doesn't turn out like that. He has a bright future and I'm sure his dad will be very proud of him no matter what he does.

You can check the place with Google Street View or something and you'll get the idea, it's basically a large poorly illuminated empty lot between built up ones. The ponds are in many places surrounded by thick bushes so especially after nightfall it would be a location where eye witnesses won't be numerous.

Just googled it. Nice affluent place.

But the pond is in full view of all the upper floor apartments. Those residents can see over those bushes quite easily. The only impediment is darkness at night.

But unless a person is *killed* at the pond itself, it makes no sense to disponse of it there in full view of like 24 apartment units facing it. You'd have to carry it across the street too, which is illuminated.
Anyhow I'm done. There's no point discussing it any further.

Came back to check this today and feel like I'm starting to read a reddit forum on the Idaho Murder case. I don't know how much more hockey talk we can divulge into that hasn't been said over the last month and a half already. I'd like to go back and watch some games from earlier this year when he was in the VHL - they're on YouTube I believe.

Now that Columbus's and the Monsters season is winding down when they aren't playing I'm going to watch pretty much nothing but prospects for the draft. Might not watch much NHL playoffs because of where my team could be drafting. That second pick in the first if we keep it is crucial too, lots of good players will come out of the late first - second round this year.

To insert evaluative draft ideas or political conspiracy into the tragic history of a particular family of ordinary simple people - society has really become more agnostic.

My condolences to Michkov and his family. Unfortunately, we all go through this.

I am sorry if this has already been asked and answered.

When an NHL team drafts him, how long is their claim on him?

I was wondering if he could just play out his contract and then pick whatever team he wants to play for. Trying to get into the mind of a Russian teenager, I'd think he'd want to play for a team with strong Russian connections like Tampa or Washington. Kind of like how Tavares ditched the Islanders for his favorite team.

The way it's always been with Russian prospects, as far as I know, is the team that drafts them holds their rights indefinitely.

The drafting team keeps their claim if he delays coming over. Mozyakin's rights are still Jackets property, he's like 40-something years old now.

It's actually an advantage to drafting late-blooming players from Russia vs from college or CHL where you can lose your claim on them before they pan out.

The NHL tries to be about as unfriendly to Russians as possible, so if the coach doesn't like a player and he goes back to the KHL, he is basically barred from the NHL forever.

Okay, awesome. I hope if the Hawks draft Michkov, we gain a stronger connection to Russian players. I feel like the Hawks haven't drafted too many.

As far as I understand he'll still be 21 in 2026 by NHL rules so has to sign a 3 year ELC. That's why he can choose to resign in the KHL for one more year and then sign 2 year ELC.

He could, but sponsorship deals would more than make up for it.

That would be a bad reason.

He has potential to make so much more money in na than he’d have in the khl.
Not to mention get to play in the best league in the world

Edit, & I believe it’s been said here it would be a 2 year elc

Whichever team is brave enough to draft him will be seen as the winner of this draft in a few years and everyone will wonder how he dropped.

No, never. That software limitation was lifted years ago, though some (including "moderators") apparently still haven't noticed that.

There should be a single thread per topic, quite obviously.
I like the different threads because it allows being able to easily find and read the discussion around different parts of their careers easier.

That’s why I haven‘t made a part 5 - not enough has happened in between this one and the last one to warrant another part. This thread is just people arguing Russia vs Canada, his fathers untimely passing and debating just how impressive his KHL statline was.

I don't think he'll drop very far... like maybe he goes 2 with no Russia concern and I think he likely goes 3rd, maybe 4th if it's a team is particularly Russia weary that ends up at 3. Can't really see any further than that. I think the only guy that doesn't like him as a prospect amongst the mainstream folks is the same guy that cackled like an idiot when the Devils took Shak a few years ago, and he ended up being a big piece for Meier.

It's not like someone is gonna be holding a major 2nd round steal or anything. Saying "wow, I can't believe this guy fell all the way to Number 4!" (especiallly since Bedard is very low bust probability and Fantilli/Carlsson have a really good chance to be very good NHL players as well) holds gigantic weight.
