Kaprizov/Panarin/Kuzmenko... all of these names and more should have put to bed the idea of passing on high-end Russian talent

Nowadays it seems when they show up they start right up
Those guys really aren't the same situation though. 2 of them weren't even drafted and the other was a 5th rounder, not because they were Russian but because they weren't good enough. Not like there wasn't other Russians drafted the years they would've gone.

Better comparison is a guy like Kuznetsov who slipped in rankings due to being a Russian.

I mainly was speaking to the time it takes for them to come and if that would negatively affect their arrival; as in idt Russians staying over for 5-6 years is all that big a deal anymore.

Youre getting a stud at age 23 if they stay home for five years, beats most draft picks

This is incredibly sad. Devastating loss for him and his family.

He was already an incredible talent with lots of question marks, I can't imagine what losing you dad in that way could affect him in the medium/long term. Major headache for teams who will be drafting 3-6 (like my Habs).

It really is a horrible devastating tragedy I just hope he is given time and respect to get his grievances out and is able to properly mentally and emotionally heal. As an aside it does remind me of ovi and his brother which is another tragic tale.

Because these Russian people can't possibly have any mental issues, right, they're Russians after all.

It doesn't have to be some conspiracy to keep Michkov in town, but it could still be a murder.

Michael Jordan's father was murdered, and a lot of people thought it was due to Jordan's gambling debts, but it was just a crime of opportunity/armed robbery gone awry cause they saw a luxury car pulled over on the road.

It could really be anything, so when someone is writing something like "yeah, suicide, sure" or something like that is either hinting he has some inside sources or telling that Russians don't suffer from mental health issues or just likes conspiracy theories so much that even such a tragedy can't stop him.

A slightly secluded muddy pond between residential buildings sounds like an underwhelming place to do a suicide by drowning when you have the Black Sea just across the block.

In general drowning in the see from the shore isn't that easy since the depth there rises gradually (not to mention there likely are patrols too, it is almost the border there). In ponds like that the depth can be more sudden especially if the pond is artificial.

True, but also a logical place to quickly dump a body after a robbery gone wrong if there was anything nefarious.

Yeah, obviously best to his family and devastating news. From a hockey perspective as this is a hockey forum, I wonder how this effects his draft position, this will be interesting to watch on draft day

It should have zero affect, although I doubt Michkov cares about that right now

It's hardly a robbery. The place they live in is pretty special. I'm sure it's patroled heavily, you won't find a lot of robbers in places like this.

If the reports of security cameras catching him stumbling around are true, a heart attack or aneurysm sounds very probable.
Perhaps feeling ill he went out for some fresh air and never returned.

Slightly secluded muddy pond?
An entire row of apartment buildings are within view (see link/video below).

If it was anything nefarious would it not make more sense to dump the body in the nearby ocean? At least there's a chance it would never be recovered.

You can check the place with Google Street View or something and you'll get the idea, it's basically a large poorly illuminated empty lot between built up ones. The ponds are in many places surrounded by thick bushes so especially after nightfall it would be a location where eye witnesses won't be numerous.
