Is U25 a normal thing? I've never heard of that. I don't like Belarus or Kazakh chances in this at all.
There was the so called "Olympic team" or B-team in previous years, I don't think it will be much different than that. The goal of it has changed though now, now it is basically to keep the staff employed while there are no other tournaments.

Is it confirmed that he will spend 3 years in Russia? If so then he’s going to slip out of the top 8. No team will use a high draft pick for a player that can’t control or develop for 3 years.
His current contract expires in 2026.

He could technically leave earlier.

This is confirmed and I can also confirm that Michkov is not going to slip past 8. I think he goes 2nd unless Arizona is picking there.

Has anyone heard anything about him coming over for the draft?

I still think his dilemma would be alleviated if he simply made some sort of public statement about wanting to play in the NHL after his contract.

That's it, and it would certainly ease some GMs minds.

This is meant as a joke theory:

The best goalies in the world are Russian Men right now. I don't think there is much debate.

Canadian goalies are struggling. I don't think there is much debate.

Michkov shoots on Russian men (mostly).

Bedard shoots on Canadian boys (mostly).

I'll see myself out.

The stats are showing that the best goalies in the world right now are Swedish.

So by your theory, Carlsson is better than Bedard and Michkov.

By my joke, not theory..

I actually didn't think saying Russian goalies are on top was controversial though. 3 of the last 6 Vezinas went to Russians. Russian nominated 6 years in a row (going on 7). No other country can say that. I get Ullmark is the most likely winner this year though but I'll be surprised if another Russian isn't nominated.

3 years comes and goes before you know it. It took Kuznetsov 4 years to come over and he was certainly worth the 1st round pick for the Capitals and there were certainly plenty of duds taken way higher that would gladly have swapped that pick while he was developing in the KHL.

The best Russian Men Goaltenders are all in the NHL though. I'm not sure if Demchenko, Samonov or Serebryakov are even ~Top 8 Russian goaltenders today.

Thats the 1st round of the 2020 draft almost 3 years ago:

Besides Bedard it will look almost the same for the 2023 draft. Its not even a question imo that you take Michkov at least in the Top 5. But if not for the 1OA I really dont care. And Michkov shouldn't either. In good Russian tradition he should ideally be drafted somewhere in the last rounds.

There is no doubt that most GM's of cellar dwelling teams(teams most likely to draft Michkov) will be under pressure to win, or at least show significant improvement, before the 26-27 season. Some of them have to be thinking how it won't help them to draft Michkov if they are already fired from the team, so why not take a player that will be ready in a year or two, in a draft that is loaded with forward talent?

I tired 3x to respond to this but gave up. Don't want the mod to kick me out or to upset Fantomas.

I think Michkov has a better shot than Bedard and, at their NHL peak, will be a greater goal scorer. Based on his second half after the Jr's though.. I think Bedard is slightly better. I don't think who's ever 3rd is on their level.

I still wouldn't draft a guy that won't come to my organization for several years.. that includes Sale, Fantili or Carlson. If I draft a guy and I'm a GM on a lottery team.. I doubt I have 3 years left and want to see him, market him, combine him etc. Nothing to do with Rusophopia.

But, on merit, I think they are damn close and a notch above everyone else.
That's one hell of a hot take. Bedard is considered to have the best shot of anyone since...Ovi, maybe? I can't remember if Sakic's shot was considered as great when he was a prospect as it later became.

Bedard's shot is arguably his best asset. Freakishly good.
