Regarding the leagues of these prospects, Carlsson's SHL is by far the most thoroughly high quality. The Big Ten is a good conference but of course players are on average a couple of years younger. In the KHL there are good teams and bad teams, Sochi and Kunlun both decidedly belong to the latter and do not have the quality of the SHL, for example.
Too bad Michkov was banned from winning the WJC this year. I blame it for such kind of posts.

shame the season is over for him

he is a tier above Fantili and Carlson
Carlsson is playing in a league that's probably harder to score in than KHL this year. Much tighter defensively and he's producing on the same level as Michkov. I think Michkov will have a higher ppg in the NHL but Carlsson will win you more games.
It's an amazing draft and behind Bedard the order will likely keep changing for years to come in regards to who is the 2nd best player.

And there aren't bad teams and good teams in the SHL? Malmö, HV71? What a ludicrous post. Sochi just took SKA to overtime a few days ago, they can compete with some of the best clubs, especially with the addition of Michkov.
In the SHL there's relegation, so if a bad team emerges they will get relegated instantly. When Bedard went to Sweden he joined exactly HV71.

I know there's relegation. There are still bad teams in the SHL, and relegation doesn't change that fact. It just makes it so the league's more competitive than it would be without it.

That's why there are exactly 2 players averaging a PPG in the whole KHL, just like in SHL

he struggled mightily at the wjc while being two times bigger than most of the players (Fantili too). Michkov whould have easily won gold and scored most goals at the tournament.

Awesome season with Sochi. Clearly top2 talent for me in this draft. Thx for posting the stats. Curious how many minutes each played during their draft season. Sochi is bad but i guess he probably had more opportunities than others during their draft season. Maybe i am wrong though. Nevertheless awesome season and talent.

I dont know the exact number but i think Cherepanov would top this list and then he went 17th overall.

Cherepanov had 29pts in 46. .630 in a much higher scoring league. The RSL had 9 guys at point per game that year.

k cmon man lol. He would have been amazing but like lets calm down.

Man, that wouldn't been a great Canada/Russia game though. Russia 2003s and 04s are super good. Too bad world politics are as they are.

There are zero guarantees in sports, and obviously that also goes for the idea that it is a lock that Bedard will be the best player from this draft.

When evaluating prospects, I don’t put too much stock in goals and assists alone. But, 20 points in 30 KHL games is just outstanding.

Michkov is such a slight player as well. It’s not like he has phenomenal physical abilities that assisted him in that production. He’s pure talent.

I totally understand picking Fantilli and/or Carlsson at 2 & 3. They are absolutely safer picks. But, neither has Michkov’s upside in my opinion. He could be one of the best.

Generally speaking bigger players take longer to develop. Wouldnt it be something if Fantilli and Carlsson ended up being the best out of the 4.

Doesnt really matter who is best or 2nd best imo. Just having 2 guys with that talent joining the league will be great. A nice rivalry could elevate their play even further imo.

1. He wouldn't, had 0.63 in his draft year. 2. Cherepanov was drafted in the high time of russian factor. Miro didnt played a single second last year in the KHL and went 20OA.

Michkov was much more impressive when playing for the national team. At Hlinka Cherepanov had 2 points, Michkov - 13.

Michkov is the biggest talent maybe since Makarov. Nonetheless, Cherepanov was exceptional. And if not for the russian factor he would have gone significantly higher. Just like Kuznetzov or Tarasenko.

On probably the worst team in league history also, he is unbelievable

More than Ovechkin? We're talking about a player who might be the greatest goalscorer in the history of ice hockey here.
