But we also have to keep in mind that Liiga was back then way way better league than it is now. The best league after NHL hands down. But yeah those were the days:)

Thats true aswell.. But feeled that from 89->96/97 it was dominated by TPS and Jokerit. But youre right that league was way better and at those times going to NHL u18 was pretty impossible thought, so thats why also comparing best prospects with that time period is totally different. Maybe more accurate would be speaking of u24 players (rookie age).

And damn I started to miss Hockey Nights...

I just noticed that Kakko have scored 12 goals in hes last 16 games (since wjc) and in hes last 24 games he have 18 goals! if he keeps this up for the playoff and do well at WC I just dont see why no one would pick kakko over hughes. I would personaly love to see kakko with rantanen. Those two along the boards would be a nightmare to play against in the same line.. Maybe even the toughest in the league

But tbh I dont really care if he goes 1-5 as long as he goes to Colorado

Yeah I don't think we are in disagreement. Saku was the best 19-20 year old prospect and Kakko is the best 17-18 year old prospect.

It's crazy to think of how much faster the development is today compared to way past when. Kids come in to play the league at age 16 and can have really amazing and effective seasons going into their draft year. Then again, of course FEL's overall standard has gone down over the years as all the best players go play for the $ in higher paying leagues, which leaves more room for rookies/youngsters. Not that Kakko couldn't have thrived even if he played back then. His complete level is that high already (even if he has a lot of room to improve especially defensively).

That'd be really really cool because Kakko's from the same junior team as Rantanen, they have been doing summer training together and Rantanen's been one of his sources of inspiration. It's tough to think of a better-suited team for him.

Kakko was asked about his favourite NHL-team. His answer was "Well, I watch the Avalanche games the most".

On Finnish hockey forum there are people who actually are in contact with people who know Kakko. Apparently he's said that he'd prefer Chicago or Avs to draft him. Of course he kinda already knows Rantanen since they trained together last summer & Rants also played on TPS, so no wonder he wants to go there.

Well Kane is going to be the main guy of blackhawks for a long time and Avs have Rantanen already who plays in same position. I would like to see him going to LA. They need driver for their offense, they have veteran guys to mentor him and kings lack finnish players. They have promising Kupari in their youth system so he would have some company too.

Watching LA's game would be a challenge for some time, they are a real mess.

Kakko could very well develop few years in the shadow of Kane and become the face of the franchise in his prime.

 that's funny

I meant that in a way that he is easily better that Hughes being ready for NHL right away. Yes Hughes is the no1 atm. I cant disagree anymore. Hughes is a skilled mf. But i think Kakko is better. Didnt mean to sh*t on Hughes. I guess im just frustrated with all the sh*tting on Kakko from sertain posters. And also people sh*tting on Hughes too much. So i sinceraly apologise it was a ignorant thing to say. I believe though that Kakko is the best prospect at this draft with no disrespect.

Canucks would be the best fit for him imo. Allthings aside no natter where he goes he will be a star right away.

Tonite it happens folks: Kaapo Kakko will become the greatest U-18 goalscorer in liiga history. Hopefully Joe Sakic comes and witness that to happen as he witnessed Nathan Maaaaaaackinnon (ode to Avs commentator ) leaving Barkov 2nd in 2013 draft. Barkov will be left 2nd again as Kaapo "Foppa" Kakko puts on another show going under the spotlight of huge Avs legend who admired Foppa a lot back in the days and will pick Kakko as 1st overall in 2019 NHL draft. Mark my words it will happen :naughty:. (PS. Nothing like conspiracy in this post, eh?:D)

Even if he does score, can we say this when Kaapo isn't under 18 anymore?

U18 season is the season when the player is last time eligible for the U18 World Championships, i.e. the season that ends during the year in which the player turns 18. So yeah, we can.

This is actually interesting. How these IIHF rules actually goes in terms of WJCs and U-18?
F.ex Urho Vaakanainen was born in 1st of January 1999, so he turned 20 during WJC and became a World Champion as 20 years and 4 days old so practically he did that in his "eligible" year cuz he was 19 up untill 1st day of 2019. So he played poffs as 20+ player in U-20 tournament.. but would he have been eligible for this year's WJC if he was born f.ex last day of the year or somewhere after 15th September that usually indicates as "late-birthday" in NHL draft?

Would he been overage and thus not eligible cuz main age group was -99 born?

Yes, IIHF tournaments go by birth year. Had Vaakanainen born 31.12.1998 instead of 1.1.1999 he would have been an overager and thus not eligible to play at the 2019 WJC's.

When we use "u-18" and such, it's by eligibility which is by birth year. "u-18" doesn't mean that the player's under 18.

Yeah, in the season prior to his draft in 1992-93 Saku Koivu only had 10 points in 46 games, but he was competing for ice-time with centers like Esa Keskinen and German Titov. It would be very hard nowadays for a Finnish team to hold on to a 27-year-old player who's as great as Keskinen was back then. Koivu still made the men's WHC team even after scoring so few points in the FEL.

He's literally the only one on his team who gets to good scoring areas. Just sad.

Some criticism: Too often Kakko tries to deke the puck into the net instead of just taking the shot when he gets to a good area.

e:

Palve-Kakko continue to be the only offense TPS has. Okay...Budish is there too...but ya know.

U guys jinx the shit out of this game.. Thanks, now we all know Kakko wont score today and it all will come down to the last game... Thanks alot..

I can only hope that his team being terrible at this time isn't hurting his scoring too much... He's been playing really well lately. Pretty unbelievable that TPS has become the laughing stock and autowin of the season. A bottom 2 team with Ässät lately.

That assist was very nice, though. A one timer shot pass like that isn't such an easy play. Honestly, it's crazy how many "good" goals / points he has. Where are all the fluke goals, lucky bounces?

Jinxing doesn't exist, sorry.
