He seems to be figuring out how to use his immense speed to blow past defenders (based on his latest highlights). In Edmonton and even in Finland last year he rarely got the puck at full speed, except at the WJC. If Pulju keeps improving at getting his timing right, the Oilers will have two great players who can rush up the puck by themselves in him and McDavid.

He's looking much more confident in the AHL, and he's getting PP time in the Ovechkin spot. The kid can flat out rip the puck as well.

Pulju is still raw and adjusting to life in a new world and NA style hockey, so I have lots of time to be patient with him.

You're also forgetting about Draisaitl who can rush the puck and drive the play himself. Very happy with Pulju's play in the AHL, exactly what we wanted to see from him. Handle it well and make the most of it.

That sounds fair because that video was the reason why I didn't buy their hockey-channel this season.
Nelonen has now flagged my Laine playoff and extended regular season highlights packages. Three strikes would mean the deactivation of my channel; fortunately, both Laine videos were flagged under a single claim. I have decided, as a result, to remove any trace of Nelonen and have also made private some of my other videos for the time being.

Think Pulj will make the jump to NHL full-time next year? Or will Edmonton keep him in AHL for a bit longer?

I think he should start in the AHL next season like Draisaitl did last season. Light a fire and see what happens

I think its up to the player.

I think Chiarelli is going to take advantage of this summer's great expansion draft position and finalize his lineup. Hopefully he makes it challenging for Jesse to make the roster, and hopefully puljujarvi rises to the challenge.

Now 16 points in 19 games, 9 points in the last 8.

Has been dominating for the last few games.

Condors guys were praising his ability to change gears and praised his work ethich. He's doing extra workouts.

He's only 18 many good prospects his age and older are still in juniors. I think it would be smart to have him spend the rest of the year in the AHL and at least half of next year too. I think he should have spent the whole season down in the AHL this season with a cup of coffee at the NHL level. Obviously if he forces their hand like Tkachuk then he will be in the NHL. But, he has to show more than he just belongs imo.

If he keeps playing like this there's no reason to keep him for a year more in the AHL.

In a article few weeks ago Chia hinted he could be their deadline addition.

Yes there are lots of promising players even 19 or 20 year old still in AHL. Pulju's looking good lately.. he's getting closer to that PPG rate.. I think he can do that or even better. Think he's a special talent and could have gone first or second a lot of draft years.. The 2016 draft year was ridiculously high standard.

Kinda shame he stayed up in the NHL for so long with minimal playtime.. I would have liked to see him fight for Calder seriously next season but it won't count as his rookie year now.

He's skating very well now. I swear every time he gets a breakaway he has like a 20-30 foot lead on the guy trying to catch him.

Skating looks effortless. Hopefully he spends the next offseason as well with the ex olympic speed skater.

McDavid/Pulju are going to be fighting for the fastest NHL duo title, and hopefully soon

Yup. I think he really needs to work on his strength this offseason, thats one area I'd like to see him improve on is his puck protecting and board work.

Oddly enough Puljujarvi kind of reminds me of Taylor Hall (stylistically), albeit with the potential for a better shot, 2-way game, and bigger frame/reach to become a better cycle player. They both just love carrying the puck through the neutral zone, but play a bit of a hybrid between a shooter and playmaker, while both don't have the most elite hands.

I wonder sometimes if Pulju-Drai might be a better fit longterm, but at the same time I also think Pulju looked good with McDavid in their short time together and I think he's versatile enough to adapt into a pure sniper if thats the role he's given.

The thought of a Drai-McDavid-Pulju line does make me wonder though lol. That could be one of the most ridiculous lines in the league someday if McLellan ever wants to load up the top line.

At end of games that you are chasing that's fine. To run it constantly for it to be considered a line is just asking for the law of diminishing returns to apply. One, while smart enough to adapt they are all fairly puck dominant and in 2 years, it would be insane to have basically 20 to 25 million tied up to one line. To be honest, considering the type of production McDavid can produce playing with average NHLers like Maroon, it may be in the best interest to find cheap short term guys who fit with him, and stack the 2nd line with Drai and Puljujarvi.

It seems in recent years, the best teams have had basically two lines where it is hard to differentiate the 1st line from the 2nd line. Pitt occasionally would roll Crosby and Malkin togeather and they would put up crazy numbers, but they know it isn't in the teams best interest to have those guys together permanently. Similarly, Chicago and Kings have kept Kopitar/Carter and Toews/Kane apart.

Pulju had a personal coach as well, with the skating coach last summer, I believe he was in Helsinki with few other players, Aho/TT/Juolevi. Of course the injury, + draft combine, draft weekend, rookie camp made his last offseasons training quite short.
Hopefully he stays healthy and has a beast of an offseason. He's known for his training so I'm excited to see how he develops.

I believe the thought is to see them together for short periods. At the end of games or periods if nothing is working and the team needs a boost.
Just like Crosby-Malkin but with another high end player.

Thats more what I was referring to. A short term solution, not a long term fit. Throw that line together late in games when you need a goal or when the team is in a slump for a game or 2.

Yeah the one announcer for the Condors was talking about how Jesse would be out running hill sprints at 6 am before practice. Sounds like a hard worker, and they're always talking about how much the kid eats lol. Shouldn't be hard for him to get stronger this off season, and could have a Draisaitl like turn around. Draisaitl put in a ton of work after his disappointing rookie year and came in last year very noticeably stronger, faster, and more explosive.

He's playing with so much confidence right now and looks great. I know it's been said lots but his skating is just a thing of beauty to watch.

Being sent down was the best thing to happen for him. How Craig Button doesn't have him ranked as the #1 prospect is shocking.

What's even more shocking is to have Alex Nylander way ahead of Jesse, at #2, on his list. He can be a pretty big fool sometimes; they should definitely be swapped places on his 'best prospects' list. Nylander is a fine prospect, but he has only 7 goals and 22 points in 51 games in the AHL thus far. Puljujarvi already has more goals than that (9, to be exact) in 22 games, and almost as many points already as Alex Nylander. JPs stats thus far: 9 goals, 11 assists for 20 points in 22 games. Then you add the way JP absolutely dominated the under 20 WJH tournament this past year when Finland won gold, leading all scorers by a healthy margin and winning MVP of the tournament. He's definitely a top 3 prospect at worst. Craig had to be sniffing glue (or still has the Oiler hate from his CGY days) to put JP so low; there's no good justification for it. But it's only his list, so who really cares, I guess. But he deserves to be called out when it's deserved, and I think it is in this case. Get off the glue, Craig.

In the end, JP is going to be one hell of a winger in the NHL, so it wont matter what Mr. Buttons thinks.

Button is one of those guys who is below the average HF poster in hockey knowledge/player projections
