Small sample size with Svechnikov, Bragin saw him in 1 or 2 games?
And Dergachyov is much more suitable for bottom lines and penalty killing.
Bragin did not make the ranking of prospects, he just chose more useful player for one tournament. That fact alone can't make Dergachyov a better prospect than Svechnikov.

I really don't understand the love for Svechnikov. Not a great skater. Was terrible in the playoffs.

He had a mediocre playoffs and still put up 7 points in 7 games, with 3/6 of Cape Breton's top 6 forwards injured. Shot a 4% shooting percentage compared to 17% in the regular season which is obviously abnormal and a small sample size, easily could have 2-3 more goals but the puck just wasn't going in for him.

I doubt you'd find any CB fan disappointed with Svechnikov effort in the playoffs.

for him the main issue is iq, he reminds me of burdasov in that regard who has all the tools but lacks in the head department. hope, dergachev'll prove me wrong.

Burdasov is actually a good comparison.......a bigger and more physical version of Burdasov, and better along the boards.

I agree. He was hot stuff a couple of years ago, but whether he was just overrated, or was one of those guys who decided it was better to "blend in" rather than exert some leadership, he is really fortunate to have been taken in the first round. I have to believe that Dergachev has more upside.

I think Bragin saw what others saw in the SSS, a player who looked out of place against that level of competition.

Burdasov is a great skater for a big guy, but I like Dergachev's hands a lot better (sue me, Craig Button!).

He'll probably be playing in North America next year, either Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL) or Ontario Reign (AHL).

And he got reaaaaaaaal bigger in the past 12 months, now listed at 6'4.25 226lbs (taken on the CHL Import Draft). Wow.

That is the opinion of Craig Button, who ranked Dergachev No. 54, far behind Yevgeny Svechnikov, who he ranked No.18. And yet when Valery Bragin, coach of the Russian U20 team, evaluated both 18-year olds for placement on the U20 team, Svechnikov was eliminated immediately based on his poor performance in the Subway Series, while Dergachev ended up being a big contributor for the team. I wonder what Bragin saw that Craig Button didn't?
Funny that you present this like "Craig Button, what an idiot and Dergachyov hater", when he was almost bang on, and in fact was HIGHER on Dergachyov than actual GMs were. As you note, Craig had Svechnikov at 18 and Dergachyov at 54 - they ended up going 19 and 74, not bad Button!

Theheight & weight numbers shown on the import draft page are way off on many players.

I wouldn't say draft position is any validation of rankings. Let's wait until these guys get their careers started a bit, and then we can evaluate the accuracy of rankings.

What are the chances that Dergachyov comes to NA this fall? I was under the impression that he has another year remaining on his contract in Russia, but I've heard people penciling him in on Shawinigan or AHL-Ontario.

There was a picture of him and Dennis Yan from Shawingan, posted in twitter by Shawingan GM, so it might be a sign that he is coming to CHL.

Thanks, Caser. Does that mean he can just opt out of his contract to come to NA? If that's the case, I'd like to see him be signed to an ELC and go straight to AHL-Ontario.

Actually don't know about that, those contract things are often very tricky.

Oh is this the guy who was a complete tank in the WJC finals? I've been looking for him ever since I saw Nurse having a hard time with getting this guy down

LW: Lucic [107kg/236lbs]–
C: Dergachyov [102.5kg+/226lbs+]
RW: King [104kg/229lbs]
= 313.5kg+/691lbs+

Legion of doom: 318kg/701lbs

Dergachyov gain 4.5kg or more

Dont hate the farfetched wishful thinking, I'm too young to remember the original Legion of Doom :(

Lindros alone was better than that line. That said this line would be a handful and then some to defend. I was really hoping that the Oilers would draft Dergachyov, the Kings may have gotten a steal IMO.
