Well then he could have come over to NA if that was his intention, but it currently is not clearly.

The intention in his situation is quite obvious - to restart his career and it is always easier to do at home than in NA.

I really, really wish I knew why LA struggled so much with Russians.

I know a lot of it is personal choice and maybe a lot of it is distance, climate, etc., but it's hard to ignore that year over year over year, we just have zero luck bringing them to NA and keeping them. There are precious few notable exceptions, like Frolov.

I still love this kid and remember thinking he was a prototypical King in 2015.

The issue with Dergachyov is that back in 2015 there was still an opinion that being built like a truck can compensate for the lack of skating, nowadays he would be drafted in like 6th round and noone would really care about his struggles. As for the Kings situation in general, it might be related to the fact that the Kings didn't have a Russian scout for quite some time and while they do have now, getting a Russian scout from the Sabres sounds questionable to me.

Yeah, quite a progress - now they don't draft Russians at all. :D

P.s. noticed that in previous post I didn't explain what Dergachyov's size should've been compensating for, edited the post now.

Signed with Avangard for 2 years after being traded there today.

Always felt he’d be a perfect fit for NA hockey but he doesn’t seem to have a desire to come over . Disappointing for NHL fans

Not sure about that. 10 years ago, maybe. By today's NHL standards he is very sluggish.

From what I’ve seen in the WJC and some KHL play his skating wasn’t bad. Certainly enough to keep up in today’s NHL. There’s still room for players good board play and front net presence like Dergachyov
