what do you do in the Olympics you obviously dont carry a Tie Domi, Donald Brashear, Jody Shelley, Sean Avery types to take care of the rough stuff so who takes care of Ruutu?

IIHF rules. All major penalties are automatically accompanied by a game misconduct.3 goals = chili said:all i know is that Ruutu got a 5 min penalty, the NBC (usa) guys havent gone into detail on the exact penalty for Ruutu, did he get a game misconduct?

It's more that you just don't hit a player in that position like that...I.E. charging at them when they are in a vulnerable position. You just don't do it. There was no need for it.
paxtang said:Says who? It was a clean hit, you either don't put yourself in that position to get hurt, or you have players that are tough enough to discourage that sort of stuff. It was an obvious attempt to destroy Jagr, but that's hockey. Big hits are legal (at least in the NHL). Yeah, he targeted Jagr. Sucks that he's hurt, but o well.

theres no way you can see that hit and call it clean, just because he didnt leave his feet or use the elbow, Jagr is already in a battle and his head is level with the dasher you can clock him from behind thats just Pejorative Slured
Watch the freaking play before sprouting that. Jagr was NOT falling down. He put his head down himself. And at the last second when Ruutu couldn't react to it anymore.UAGoalieGuy said:You NEVER hit another player along the boards that is already being checked and was FALLING down. He was just about on one knee when he got hit. He came in from the blind side took atleast 6 hard strides towards him and put his sholder into his head. This equals dirty.
a bit...canucksfan said:He didn't use an elbow and it wasn't from behind. The only thing I saw wrong with it was it was a bit of a charge but thats it. It shouldn't have been a five minute major.

MLH said:Exactly. It was probably a legal hit, but there's a code in hockey. You don't hit people in vulnerable positions, you don't throw hipchecks directly at opponents knees, etc.
Ranger fans know all about the code since they see Kaspar break it regularly.

skullman80 said:It was unecessary, period.
I'm far from a Rags or Jagr fan, but I just don't like to see that kind of stuff happen to any player.
