Ruutu's cheapshot on Jagr

what do you do in the Olympics you obviously dont carry a Tie Domi, Donald Brashear, Jody Shelley, Sean Avery types to take care of the rough stuff so who takes care of Ruutu?

It was charging, but jagr should have had his head up. it was a cheap hit, but not of the magnitude of the bertuzzi incedent. The call was fair considering Ruutu's history.

all i know is that Ruutu got a 5 min penalty, the NBC (usa) guys havent gone into detail on the exact penalty for Ruutu, did he get a game misconduct?

In IIHF games a 5 min major is an automatic game misconduct.

IIHF rules. All major penalties are automatically accompanied by a game misconduct.

So what was wrong with the hit ?

No elbow. His feet didn't leave the ice. Not from behind. Jagr was against the boards. His hands were down.

Jagr had his head down like a dummy which is something you should never do. Too bad he got hurt though. I hope he didn't suffer a concussion. The ref only called the penalty to calm the crowd and the players.

It's not so much that it was a dirty hit, IE using the elbow, leaving your feet etc.

It's more that you just don't hit a player in that position like that...I.E. charging at them when they are in a vulnerable position. You just don't do it. There was no need for it.

Ruutu has always been a piece of ****, this hit is just another instance of it. He runs people all the time taking cheapshots, and if someone stands up to him or steps in, he ******* out and won't fight back, just turtle.

Pure garbage. *******s like him don't belong in any league.

Oh come on. It was worth a penalty, no doubt about it. But 5+20? I don´t think so. That´s just what happens if you scratch your balls and don´t keep your head up. 2mins for charging or maybe 2+2.

I vote clean hit. Jagr put himself in a bad position (head down, crouched over on the boards) and was vulenrable to a hit.

Ask Detroit. Who do they have? All Wimps.

Says who? It was a clean hit, you either don't put yourself in that position to get hurt, or you have players that are tough enough to discourage that sort of stuff. It was an obvious attempt to destroy Jagr, but that's hockey. Big hits are legal (at least in the NHL). Yeah, he targeted Jagr. Sucks that he's hurt, but o well.

i dont see how it can be only a 2+2, minimum it would be 2+10 but i agree that it was worth the 5+game....

theres no way you can see that hit and call it clean, just because he didnt leave his feet or use the elbow, Jagr is already in a battle and his head is level with the dasher you can clock him from behind thats just Pejorative Slured

Exactly. It was probably a legal hit, but there's a code in hockey. You don't hit people in vulnerable positions, you don't throw hipchecks directly at opponents knees, etc.

Ranger fans know all about the code since they see Kaspar break it regularly.

It was unecessary, period.

I'm far from a Rags or Jagr fan, but I just don't like to see that kind of stuff happen to any player.

It wasn't from behind, so that is what is Pejorative Slured. It's not Ruutu's job to make sure Jagr doesn't get hurt. Hit was there, and he took it. The fault lies on Jagr.

You NEVER hit another player along the boards that is already being checked and was FALLING down. He was just about on one knee when he got hit. He came in from the blind side took atleast 6 hard strides towards him and put his sholder into his head. This equals dirty.
Watch the freaking play before sprouting that. Jagr was NOT falling down. He put his head down himself. And at the last second when Ruutu couldn't react to it anymore.

Jagr was NOT on one knee when he was hit. He was crouching down. Ruutu took TWO strides, neither of them hard. The hit was SHOULDER-TO-SHOULDER. No part of Ruutu's body touched Jagr's head at any point.

Watch the hit. Please.

Last time I checked charging is a penalty so right there it makes it a dirty hit...thats why its called a PENALTY. Plus the fact that he was getting hit in the first place and come in from the players blindside. It something you don't do. Plus this is the OLYMPICS. Your not suppose to have dirty or enforcers playing here. This is to showcase your country's best players on the worlds center stage.

Yeah, and Steve Moore tripped when Bertuzzi tapped him on his helmet. :sarcasm:

And I'm far from a Ruutu fan, and I hate to see players hurt, but I also hate to see people fall apart and cry murder on a clean hit. People get hurt in hockey.
