So they'll play Chaikovsky instead of Alexandrov (who wrote the Soviet-turned-into-Russian anthem). A musical upgrade for sure!

Nigel Dawes for Belarus is another one that I never fully understood.
 
A silly mistake at the end but still this was just the first game, enough time to recover. Hopefully guys can do better against Switzerland tomorrow.
 
Now that's music. Maybe all countries should use their best composers' music instead of anthems. We sure could use Gershwin or Berlin.

Indeed. Do we have any other spare D or this is all we have? It's only one game, but the moment Russia put on some speed we struggled.

Take a look at some of those "Italian" rosters from the 90's . Like 3/4's of roster was Canadia/US born

FLA is about to drop out against TBL. Provided that Gudas is available, he'll add some very dearly missed grit to our team.
 
I am rooting for USA and all ex-Soviets (Belarus first, Latvia second). Since Latvia doesn't really have much of a chance against Canada, I'll watch Belarus - Slovakia.

I actually think Latvia does have a glimmer of a chance against Canada. Those guys have only been on the ice together for a few days, they usually struggle in the openers. Not that Latvia is any good but if there is a chance to do anything against NA teams it's in the opener.

Maybe. Granted, I can watch both games at once, but I gotta work too. :)

He got Croatian citizenship extremely easily and even before he got it Croatia was asking for him to represent them. Ultimately he stayed with America though. I actually feel like the Czechs are 3 good players away from a big 6...

One more Hronek (modern D)
One more Hertl or Krejci (C)
A new Vokoun (solid NHL starter who is very established)

Watching a Stastny not in a Slovak jersey would suck. In fairness, if Gretzky's kids played hockey they'd play for the US. I think Ray Borques son is a US player now. In fact, the US seem to be getting some great players.lol Borque, Pivonka, Hejduk x 2.

I think for us (Czech and Slovaks) we don't benefit at all from immigrants coming to play for us. Technically Czechs got Adam Musil who played for Canada at Hlinka.
 
Today's Czech performance has been really disappointing. I was so excited to watch some entertaining Czech hockey, but all I saw was a disengaged team full of passengers, being pushed around by a dominant, but not unbeatable Russian team. Zero grit, zero passion and the effort (apart from the last 10min was) was really dire. Also, what changes did the coaches make to change that?

We've had them by the balls throughout the last 5-10min, but we made a stupid mistake which cost us the game. We always have to learn it the hard way I guess. :help:

I hope comes but it is 2-1 and it is a phenomenal series to watch. I have no idea how Florida got so good but they are playing great!
