Yes, but I'd be surprised if he came North. He'll have a ton of teams after him. Maybe Winepeg as they're still in the area, but I can see him cup chasing with an eastern team with a soft travel schedule.
He would come North if he was getting Keith’s salary, 5.5M. He likely signs a 2 year 3M deal somewhere else though

Not the sort of negative value Koskinen has.

Try to include him in the deal and you would be giving up something of more value than you did.
Everyone has retrospective goggles on now. I didn’t even think Jones + Koskinen was fair to the Oilers because of Keith’s extra year.

Somehow our offer was even worse considering we didn’t even end up getting rid of Koskinen’s cap hit and we added a third (which could even become a second) on top too.

So if the Oilers waited a day they could have made a play for Suter... :ha:

I'm not saying Suter is going to sign here, but if the Oilers offered him 5.5, which is what Duncs is earning, I mean that's probably one Suter considers lol. Who else is going to offer him 5.5MM?

What are these buy-outs gonna cost Minnesota? Like 8 years cap penalty for both? Yikes.

Billy Guerin thinks his poop doesn't stink right now I bet because of his genius of inheriting Kirill who gave his team a major boost.

Those are insane cap hit penalties. Basically the entire cap of those players for 3 years each still. Suter is still playing well and probably would have still been decent for the rest of the contract.

Suter is 36 and has played his entire career, even junior in the US.

I doubt he or his family would want to come to Canada at this point in their lives. As much as they're polite about it, Americans still view Canada as a frozen bizarro land compared to the US and nit pick things like not having the same TV channels, weird Thanksgiving, etc. etc.
They made it pretty clear last time that they wanted to stay in the States and that Minny was their #1 choice. I doubt things change much.

It's year 2-4 that they barely even save anything that's the real head scratcher. It's as if they have an internal salary spend issue

Truth be told, I think he's going to wait until an end of summer before signing. I said he can get 5+ mil, but I think he goes down the Shattenkrik path when he signed TB and takes a cheaper contract to win the cup.

He had an NMC and could have approved a trade to wherever (he's a guy that will be in demand), but he took the buyout option so he has max choice/flexibility.

A guy who has spent his entire career in his home country is suddenly going to move to Canada for a few years. Doubtful. With the buyout money is really not an issue. He will go to a US cup contender for cheap

Agreed I could see a last ditch effort on getting a cup there. I don’t think he would have come to Edmonton for sure either, but I think he will be a great cheaper pick up somewhere.

I wonder if they were forced to buyout Suter when he caught wind Parise was being bought out.

Be interesting to see who they end up protecting after all this, because losing Suter seems like it's going to hurt

12.7M in dead cap space in Y2 and 14.7M in dead cap space in Y3 and Y4.

My guess is neither guy wanted to waive their NMC's and Guerin bought them out for Expansion and cash purposes.
Is it worth it, who did they save? Dumba? How do you ice a competitive team those 2 seasons with 15M in dead cap? Which could very likely still be flat. Bettman said 3-5 years at least did he not?
