Are they? Because the overall feeling is that everything is over and the teams is doomed to being a bottom feeder like that have been...?

I know it's not over, far from it, but the emotions surrounding this team is f*cking stupid right now.

I mean they've been a playoff team for two seasons now (barring COVID shut down).

Keith + Bouchard replace either Barrie who got a lot of assists riding shot gun to McDavid but defensively wasn't great or Klefbom who was quite frankly mediocre in his last year here.

You would hope to see some internal growth with young players like Bear, Puljujarvi, Yamamoto too ... they're not babies anymore, they all know what NHL hockey is about at this point.

Goaltending though they absolutely must find someone better than Koskinen. If they want to go back to missing the playoffs, the fastest way to accomplish that is have piss poor goaltending. This team cannot handle any kind of bad goaltending, they fold like a cheap tent, even this past season they were headed to Shitsville USA with Koskinen as the starter in the first 9 games (3-6 record).

That said they're still as a franchise stuck as 1st round canon fodder, to go above that Holland has work to do and I'm not seeing a whole lot here that suggests he's some top level GM that can get this done quickly. We'll probably be stuck here for a few years.

Is Suter better than Keith? I imagine if we waited 24 hours on the Keith deal, Suter would have been a cheaper better option

Keith cannot play at a high level, he can't even play at a medium level. why do people still have this pre-conceived notion that Keith is still in his prime. I hear Lidstrom wants to play again too if thats the case
Playing at high level doesn't mean being in his prime. In his prime he would fetch Draisaitl+3rd not Jones+3rd.
Keith at this age can still outperform Larsson which is considered high level. If he has a chip on his shoulder he will look to outperform Nurse as well next season. We gave Barrie a legit shot after he looked washed up in Toronto. Keith would be an upgrade on Barrie IMO. Too bad we couldn't get a retention which is on Holland. Keith chose to come here and should get nothing but full support from EDM fans

Suter is, but not by as much as people would like to think. Both have seen they're offense dry up, but Ryan has a far better supporting cast around him.

However Suter likely just became the best LD on the market, even at 36. If he wants 5+ mil, he'll get it.

Wow. And people are worried about Koskinen and Neal buyouts.

he has my support, I hope he proves me wrong

taking on his full contract is still a criminal offense where cap space is the most important commodity in the league right now and we need all we can get to make our team better

Suter is 36 and has played his entire career, even junior in the US.

I doubt he or his family would want to come to Canada at this point in their lives. As much as they're polite about it, Americans still view Canada as a frozen bizarro land compared to the US and nit pick things like not having the same TV channels, weird Thanksgiving, etc. etc.

It's all good. Will be loads of movement before, during, after the expansion draft, draft, free agency for us to see all the movement we completely excluded ourselves from participating in by being blinded by 3 cup rings.

Yeah at this point it’s not close.

If you were to offer Suter what they will pay Keith, 2 years 5.5M, I’d assume he’d sign it in a second.
