I’m not pushing one or the other here, but as fans why the heck do we care about the money except for the cap hit? I wish the jets would do all kinds of signing bonuses and lockout protection if it entices high end players. If this team has deep pockets, use em. It’s not my money to worry about.

We are a small market franchise here in Winnipeg, and we don't have the deep pockets that you believe we do. If we don't make the playoffs, this team likely operates in the negative cash flow position. If we make the playoffs --the Jet's make money.

Where do you think all this money is going to come from ?? The Jets are not New York City here, and have to manage their cash resources, to stay profitable.

Just checking in to see if Wiebe's prediction of acquiring Eric Fehr has happened yet. :thumbd:
Brassard would be a depth acquisition, and not too expensive. He's had a horrible season, but has been decent in previous seasons. Decent insurance, I guess.

I know we are small market, but every time another fan base questions our ability to pay on here, there’s a lineup of posters spouting the about the richest man in Canada being an owner. And Chevy will spend his money when it’s time to win. Which one is it?

Just us. Though it likely stems from all the talking heads being adamant on the Jets having interest in Simmonds and him being the perfect fit for us.

Yea if they are getting directed by the media then that makes sense. I have respect for Simmonds career especially a few years back but I think that is a terrible fit for us in the here and now.

Depth for what ?? the Penns picked him up last year to be a 3rd line center, and they just dumped him to Florida for lack of production. He was not productive.

The Jet's have all the "filler inner" type players they can handle now --what we need is someone who's going to improve our club, and take us to that next level. There are 2 guys that look good to do that -- Stone or Hayes. I like Hayes, as he's Cap friendly.

They've given some relief on strike/lockout-possible years already.

Trade our 1st in 2019, 2nd in 2019, Suess and Stanley for Stone and 3rdin 2019.
Trade Comrie (has to clear waivers next year), our 2nd in 2020 and Petan for Eric Staal.
Our playoff lineup...

Laine-Scheif -Stone
MP- Staal- Wheeler
KC-Little- Ehlers
Copper -Lowry -Tanev/Roslo

JMo Trouba
Chiarot/Niku Buff
Kuli Myers

Helle Brossoit

I love Copper on the third line...even if he drove the 4th line.
Sorry but Perreault should be in the press box he is not an nhl player anymore how he has played in this league so long is crazy.

Been doing a little research on Hayes --"not to bad at all"--he's on pace for 60 points this year, and Little is on pace for 50 points, so Hayes really improves our lineup, at quite a reduced cost compared to Stone. ( saves about $ 3 mil per year)

Hayes is 27 years old, 6'5 tall, and weighs 220 lbs, so the guy is very big.

We could plug him in on the 4th line to start, and we'd have 4 scoring lines. He may unseat Little and take over the 2nd line center as well. He's going to score 60 points this year, and this would add some offense to the Jets.

I believe Hayes could be signed in the $ 6 to 6.5 mil range over 6 years.

Considering Stone will want anywhere from $ 9.5 mil to 10 mil per season, and cost us a 1st round pick, and a top prospect like Vesa or Roslovic, signing Hayes looks like a pretty good idea, and won't break the bank, and leave money over to sign some decent defenseman.

Also Stone may want a lot of upfront bouns money, and lockout protection
guarantees $$$ , that Hayes would not get. This gets hugely expensive, and causes dissention with the other players.

When you look at the big picture and the Cap tight environment were in --I think it makes a lot of sense to really really think about signing Kevin Hayes.

Hayes also plays 3-4 more mins a game and double Littles PP time per game almost. They are pretty equal IMO. Hayes is just bigger

I think it's a fallacy what many people believe. David Thomson who is one of the richest men in Canada, only owns about 15 % of TNSE, which owns the Jets. He is a "minority owner" as far as my research has told me.

He is a 50 % owner in the "real estate"-the Bell MTS Center, that the Jet's play in. Thomson's holding company(Osmington Holdings) used to own it outright at 100% but sold to Chipman and TNSE, and decided to retain 50 % ownership in the building -- "but this has nothing to do with the Jets." The real estate is "separate"

I also was under the impression that Thomson owned 50 % of the Jets until I did some research on this subject. I will have to do it again, as it appears that people believe that Thomson owns 50 % of TNSE -- but according to my research it's only 15%, or less, which makes the "richest man" in Canada, a "minority" owner in TNSE.

I'll have to research this again --as a lot of people are a little confused on this, or my memory has been faulty, and I don't have my facts right ??

If anybody knows "for sure"--please do comment on this ownership issue.

Hayes isn't a huge upgrade on Little, but he's been very good this season and would provide the Jets a lot of quality depth and options if they have a long playoff run. I'd like Hayes or Staal as options sort of similar to Stastny in a few ways.

They should really keep him and try to make the playoffs if he is so highly valued and then re-sign him in the off season, as for us if Chevy is so inclined offer a 2nd a b prospect and continue kicking tires, I don't know if we really need him but he could be useful against teams like Nashville, Calgary and Vegas in the playoffs.

I agree with your post -- but let's not forget that Staal is 35 yrs old, whereas Hayes is only 27 years old--"huge difference". Both would be good, but Hayes has viable long term utility for the Jets, and the Jet's want a trade rental they can "resign."

Dissapointed we did not add a D man and there is no talk of it. Buff is having an injury ridden year, and how hard he guns it in the playoffs I dont like it. Last night we had a Myers scare. Imagine rolling into the playoffs with Morrissey, Trouba, Kulikov, Chairot, Morrow and Niku. I would have liked a #4 to go with Buff then run Myers Kulikov. Niku as first man in and chairot and Morrow for injury depth.

As for forwards. If its not stone. Only Hayes or Zuc IMO. Forget Brassard, Simmonds. And we are not linked to really anyone except Hayes and Stone. Ottawa seems to like to screw Chevy around as well. Wonder if he has moved onto other options. I would make a push. If Nashville, Calgary or vegas grabs Stone. May as well just stand pat or try for Hayes. I think it will be tough for us to beat those 3 as well as San jose to begin with. If Stone was added I just don't see it. But we still have an equal chance next year provided Chevy has a good summer with contracts and Trouba.

Even for the now Hayes is good where ever he plays. If one of Scheif or Little go down our centre ice becomes thin. Would feel a lot better with him. Brassard though I don't feel is worth any assets. Would feel just as fine if Copp, Lowry or Roslo had to be a top 6C if we took an injury

Even taking Myers and Buff off that crew I don't find it to be that terrible.
