The Oil had better use Arvi's injury history as a way to go into LTIR and add another player at the deadline. Then he's magically better for game 83. Seeing those f***s in Tampa and Vegas blatantly get away with this shit year after year makes me sick. Oilers better stop being the nice guys and get greasy with this. The league keeps allowing it, so play ball. Not like Arvi doesn't have extensive history with being injured and out.

Can he come back for game 78 and we put one of Drais/Connor on the shelf to rest them. Gives him time to get his skating and hands back? Or does that not work?

Honestly yada yada yada Fourier. I look to you for logical insightful posts. Where are you?

Karlsson -- average defensively lol. The skating (when he is healthy) blinds everybody. But he is older now and his body is breaking.

"The coaches are after me so hard to get back first and close my gaps. I'm going to give it a try. Gives it a try. Later on the bench he is sitting there...he has been hit along the defensive half wall, somebody elbowed his ribs in the corner, he is out of breath, feeling a bit tired in the legs. Right then and there he vowed never to do that again."

Knobs system is working. Erik doesn't fit (unless your replacing most of Bouchards time with Erik) and that given age differences and health considerations would be foolish. Bouchard and Erik both on the right? Suddenly our goalies would look like dog shyte cause if I'm the opposing coach im not rushing the puck i'm having the forwards hammer it to that corner all night and forechecking hard.

3rd best in the league. Not good enough. Not this year. I know we have Kane and RV coming back. A bottom six addition, or possibly two, a 3rd pair defender quality experienced to spell Emberson, a better backup to Skinner. None of these are expensive or hard to find and we can ship out or waive the money.

By the way Noah Philps last game. A goal, an assist, a plus 3 in a 3-5 loss. I never watched the game but doesn't this indicate an improvement in his two way game. Maybe we should give him a 3 game try again soon -- not sure we want him feeling like he is spinning his wheels for nothing down there. This is the kind of thing that attracts pro scouts. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a couple of opposing teams pro scouts in the stand during Bakersfield next game.
I should have clarified. I am not advocating for EK. My concern with him is that his role on this team may not fit him since he tends to be best when he is the dominant force on the ice. My post was about whether the team could afford him now vs going forward. I don't really think he would be the right target, but if he was the guy they wanted off season would be better.

As I said later in that post I am now at the point where I don't really know what the right move.

I'm sure the league would find a way to say that's not allowed or that's obviously cap circumvention.

If I was the Oil I would say that we would like to present 2 case studies:

1) Kucherov, N.
2) Stone, M.

We have the 2nd lowest goals against in the NHL since the 3rd game of the season (Cup hangover). That's with Emberson and Stetcher who people swore up and down would cause our D to collapse. Well it hasn't collapsed, from about game 3 of the season it's allowing the 2nd lowest GA/G I believe (2.4 GA/G).

I mean I'm not really sure it's a smart idea to spend huge on this.

Even a TJ Brodie (I know some people will flip their lid) would be fine, our D is Knob/Coffey's systems play it's not about individuals. He is a left shot D that plays the right side primarily.

In our system, a Brodie would probably look fine especially on the bottom pair.
Every team that's won the Cup has had great defence with amazing depth. What we have is Stecher on the 2nd pair. That is not good at all. The playoffs are another animal. We can't be going into the playoffs with a guy like Stecher in the top 4

Well then don't have him on the 2nd pair.

Nurse-Kulak are outstanding together, why are some people so reticent to overlook what's obviously staring them in the face ... Nurse has as D partner and his name is Kulak.

Hypothetical moves

Arvidsson + 2nd + 3rd + Pickard for Gibson @35% retained + 2nd round pick + Fabbri @50% retained

Juuso Valimaki for 2nd + prospect

Fabbri is good friends with McDavid, several years younger than Arvidsson and has some scoring touch in the past.

Fabbri McDavid Hyman
Kapanen Draisaitl Podkolzin
Kane RNH Skinner
Janmark Henrique Brown
Perry

Ekholm Bouchard
Nurse Kulak
Valimaki Emberson

Gibson/Skinner

At that point just sign connors brother, why do we care who’s friends with him. We’re here to build a winning club, not a country club.

Fabbri has 2 goals in 14 games averaging 16 minutes of ice time.

You must be dying inside when all your crying and complaining before the season is being proven to be a waste of energy.

We need to be cognizant of creating more ties for McDavid to have to the org as getting him to sign an extension here is paramount. Fabbri's also a few years younger than Arvidsson and I do think we went too old with a lot of our acquisitions in the summer.

That said, Fabbri has some skill and could contribute here, I said for years the Oilers should take a chance on Dylan Strome.

Well lol and behold, the Caps are having a massive resurgence in large part due to Strome becoming a 100+ point player, and he was just sitting there and could have been had for nothing two summer's ago.

We should have jumped on that knowing his history with McDavid. Same thing with DeBrincat, we could have drafted that kid, he was just sitting there, but we opted to pretend to be the smartest front office in the room and took Tyler Benson instead.

Gibson sucks, costs too much and no guarantee he'll get back to a .900 % percentage

stay far away

I think he would be good behind the defensive system that Knob has. He has outstanding athleticism in net and would be a fair alternative to Skinner who is poor in that area.

I'm not really sure if Arvidsson has a lot left in the tank anyway, maybe he does but his age combined with injury history raises some red flags. If we can get out of that deal and bring back someone who can make a difference in some games like a Gibson could, I'd be inclined to do it.

Arvidsson and Skinner are definitely players I'm open to upgrading if the right opportunity came. When you look at the forward spots aside from McDavid and Draisaitl, you ask what everyone brings to the table.

Hyman - Our next best scorer.
RNH/Henrique - Versatile, add to much needed C depth for playoffs, both can play wing
Kane/Podkolzin - Physicality that we want in a playoff run
Janmark/Brown - Elite on the PK in last years run. Don't want to mess with that.
Perry - Great option as the 13th forward, team seems to love the experience he brings.

Including McDrai, that's 10 of 13 forward spots locked up. Skinner, Arvidsson, Kapanen, Ryan and Philp certainly in the mix, but if we can find a proven scorer who plays playoff hockey, it would be huge.

The league will magically find a rule that prohibits this and fine them a pick.

I truly wonder if this was part of the calculus when we signed him.

The offense is still not clicking full though. If we are going to have Jeff Skinner here then at least utilize him properly. This team is guilty of not wanting to try things, it happens again and again.

Give Podkolzin a few looks with McDavid and bring Skinner back into the top 6 and put him on the PP for some reps if the PP is going to continue to not be great.

Defensive side of the ice has overperformed, Knob needs to spend more time focusing on what he doing with the forwards.

Kapanen and Podkolzin are not top 6 guys, and Henrique-Brown aren't 3rd liners. Impossible to upgrade all the holes on fwd but we have to get at least one scoring winger- and no, Kane is not a "deadline acquisition", he's been dragging Draisaitl down the last 2 seasons. This team under Knob has been great defensively and has good systems, but just needs more talent.

EDM vs LA first round just seems inevitable at this point. Still > 2/3 of a season to go and still feels pretty much set at this point.

Both Vegas and LA have been pretty consistent about starting seasons strong and fading over the course of the year, while Edmonton does the exact opposite.

Division title is still up for grabs here.

If we win tomorrow and Saturday and the Knights lose to the Jets we would only be a point off the division lead.

At this time of the year the division has never been more in reach than now.

I wonder if walman might be better as a 4/5, skates well and can move the puck.

Have him play with a rotation of Stetcher and Emberson, while the rest of the group stays the same.
I don't know Walman so I can't really comment. He has an extra year so that's good but San Jose can't retain so we will need a broker.
