Why the FCUK is there a mega thread for Hoglander of players on the mains lmao
I remember one of our favorite trolls, Three On Zero, said "teams do not trade young cost controlled 20 goal scorers" lol

THis after I said the contract was no good and he shot more than 2x his career shooting%

Guy hasn't scored in like a month or two.

Because people already forget that Yamamoto was traded for nothing then immediately bought out. Hoglander sucks.
I've always like his motor and battle level, But at $3M per for the next 3 years is rough.

Speaking of the Nucks, if they decide to move piece, Suter would be a very nice depth center.

Skinner has a NTC. Why would he waive it to miss the playoffs for yet another year?
Money.

One could argue he has enough and has his buy-out money, but we aren't using him in the way I think he envisioned, likely expected some McDrai time and he needs to put up stats for his next contract, which requires a more offensive role.

If Jeff's primary interest was winning I think we would of tried getting traded from one of the many bad teams he was on and he likely would of tried learning better defensive hockey from one of his many coaches he had over the years.

Though in saying this I acknowledge that he finally took some defensive strides with us, but it seems like Knob forced it on him relegating him to a 4th line role till he had a base competency level and fit within the general structure of our system.

You mean the guy I wanted the Oilers to draft eons ago? I like him as a player, but I don't think the playstyle would be a fit in our bottom six.

it's looking like a horrible signing, not so much in term, obviously, 1 year, but at 3 million, a guy who the head coach doesn't trust to play in our top 6 when we have 3 top 6 wingers injured (Hyman, Kane, Arvidsson)? That's horrible. Add that we gave him probably double what Holloway would of signed for (1.5 ish), and it looks even worse. I know a lot of us liked the signing on July 1, myself included, but I wonder if Knob was consulted, because he does not seem to be a Jeff Skinner fan. I was hoping it was just a matter of a new system and a new team, but it's one third of the season done and the guy still doesn't look like a fit for this team. At this point, due to his play, his cap hit, and his NMC, there really isn't much of a choice to be patient and hope he can find a spot on this team. People are right, he probably won't waive his NMC to go anything but a contender. Sure, this season is going to affect his next deal, but he's made about 100 million in his career, and even a solid 2/3 of the remainder of the season probably won't get him that much more money. His big money days are over, odds are 3 million will be the highest per season he sees for the rest of his career.

Knob was in the room when they were discussing Skinner. The room was enamored with his goal scoring ability next to Drai and they wanted to see what he could bring on a play off team.

They tried Skinner and Drai early but it wasn’t clicking. I think cause Skinner likes to handle the puck and so does Drai. And Skinner was probably over handling the puck trying to force plays early on. Which is a good thing if his execution and timing is on point, we need more play drivers. I think Knob now realizes maybe the best spot for Skinner is to create from the 3rd line, but there are signs lately that Skinner is using his team mates more and working within the Oilers offensive system , so I could see him back with Drai soon if he keeps it up.

Only Canadian team to have a presence in the States. That’s weird, wonder what the connection is.

Oilers have hired several behind the scenes people from that state and we have drafted a few USHL players from the state. But I think that is an old map(I could be wrong)

It's probably just the 10 hockey fans in the state.

Lol. Could be one diehard oilers fan and no one else likes hockey in that state.

Really. That’s interesting. Just like how Brazil is Oil Country.

I think it's also just a case of sheer athleticism.

Skinner simply doesn't have it. It's hard enough being a good goalie in this league with how good shooters are today, but to have sub-par movement in net just leaves you prone to having really bad stretches.

The same way Derek Ryan simply cannot move the same way Connor McDavid can, Skinner can't move in net like a lot of the better goalies in the league. It's very hard to simply just make up athleticism at a professional sports level, you either have it or you don't.

He can have good stretches, but then the ugly stretches will almost definitely always come back when there are games when doing some things out of his comfort zone (higher danger saves, lateral movement saves, saves off the rush) is being asked of him.
The best goalie of this generation is well known to be unathletic lol. Plenty of ways to be a good goaltender in the NHL without looking like Hasek. Not saying Skinner is even fit to hold Hellebuyck's jockstrap but a goaltender who's positionally sound and contests shooting angles well can easily shut down an elite offense if the defensive structure allows for it and they're on their game. Heck we even saw that from Skinner in the Dallas series. We have a goaltending coach who makes every goaltender worse positionally and has them all playing smaller than they look and basically backing into their own net. Skinner might not be the solution, but there sure as hell are ways to get better results out of his skillset and number one on the list is a better goaltending coach.
