Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

This is a bit of a crazy idea, for fun but throwing this out there. Not saying I would do this but just throwing out the idea:

To EDM
Gibson @50% retained
Dumoulin @50% retained
Zegras

To ANA
Stuart Skinner
Matt Savoie
EDM 1st 2026 + STL 2nd 2025
Viktor Arvidsson or Evander Kane (cap dump)

I get it, Zegras is a flawed player, but it would be a sharp injection of youth + skill into our lineup and we would still have his RFA rights at the end of two years. You take a bet he can rack up some points here and in 2 years you can likely trade him for a large haul or try to re-up him.

I like Savoie a lot so it would suck to trade him, but you have to give to get.
Zegras would never ever play a regular shift here. He is the exact wrong player for this team. You think Skinner benching is bad?

Verbeek has no leverage. Everybody knows Gibson wants out and there’s almost no market for him, certainly not at Verbeeks crack pipe price. They can go ahead keep him and enjoy their 10M+ goaltender controversy next season when Gibson isn’t moved after a decent season and turns back into a sub par goaltender with an attitude problem again because he’s stuck another year on a non playoff team.

If they want to sell him it’s gonna be a similar deal to Fowler. Retaining 2-3M and getting back a 2nd and a meh prospect.

I still don't like that Gibson's deal is expensive and long, but I think he's a great bet. But that's easy for a fan to say. If he's a flub here, there will be no shortage of people saying I told ya so, and they'd have a point.

I really like that Gibson has now publicly said he wants to come here. (Publicly through Friedman I mean).
Maybe that puts pressure on Anaheim to get a deal done. They need to do some retention to mitigate the cap risk

There's also the obvious. Trading Gibson will upgrade their 1st rounder pick (and all their picks actually)

I mentioned this on the mains but look what Grier did. He bit the bullet on trade value and retention, and lots of people laughed. Except, the result was that it allowed for more opportunity for young guys, and got him Cellibrini. And... it creates so much good will. Gibson wants to play in the playoffs. Are the Ducks going to stand in his way and not let him win anything? He'll age out by the time they are a playoff team

You consider 1 more year long? Better than a rental.

Can I have a chance to talk to a mod about a rumour? It may be completely off but I just would like to inform one of them
PM me too Mundeyah

I just listened in on the Bobbing for Knob interview. Knob mostly praised Skinner. Hardly was critical of him at all.

Skip to the 16:50 mark. I personally use Podbean. Knob needs a better phone plan because the static from his end was brutal.

I'm listening to Oilers NOW with Bob Stauffer | Oilers Head Coach Kris Knoblauch (2/10/25) on Podbean, check it out! Oilers Head Coach Kris Knoblauch (2/10/25)

It's two more years after this one, and it's the worst set of two years to pick. It's the first year of Drai's extension and the first year of McDavid's. It's also the two most expensive years of the Campbell buyout

We need some retention on the chance he doesn't pan out.

If Skinner is not the answer here and is a liability against certain higher end teams, then where do you even go next summer?

You missed the bus on Blackwood and Askarov, like who are you thinking is even available as a goaltending option in the summer? Saros is considerably more expensive and a small goalie and Nashville won't retain on a 8 year term, no way. 2-3 years ok, but 8 is way out there.

Nothing good on the UFA market.

If you have a chance to get a Gibson now, I think you probably have to take it.

Yeah, I didn't catch anything overly critical of Skinner.

Doesn't really matter IMO. The coach is not likely going to say much either way

I am mod. Please DM me rumour.

I am also mod, please DM

A mid pick? Verbeek is on record as 'wanting a lot' for Gibson or he won't move him. Get real.
I heard he wants a big return, but the playoff teams looking for goalies right now seems pretty thin, Gibson also has an NTC which gives him some control. They can keep their $6.4M back-up, but it doesn't really make sense and Gibson has already semi-tipped his hand that he wants out even going back to the prior season. Realistically how long are they going to hold him?

I think it's getting to the point that he should just bite the bullet and take the best offer.

My fear is we'll run into a situation where our GM is like I think he is worth a 2nd and their GM will be like he is worth a 1st and in the interest of compromise they do a conditional deal of if we win the Cup our 2nd changes into a 1st and while you can say "oh you won a cup who cares what it cost." Part of me is thinking all we need is consistent above average goaltending and Talbot could potentially provide that at half the cost.
