Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

Our first would be closer to a second. Anaheim has tons of cap space so they don't exactly need him off the books. Meanwhile the Oilers need to win a Stanley Cup.
Lol new jersey just gave up less for markstrom who had a better year and it's not like Calgary didn't have capspace. There's literally no precedent for paying what you posted for a goalie let alone a 30 plus goalie.

The way that I look at it, is if Anaheim were to waive him today, would anyone make a claim? With only 6 teams (Utah, Calgary, Nashville, Buffalo, Columbus and San Jose) with enough cap space to do so, it wouldn't be very likely. Maybe Columbus and/or San Jose make a claim but they already have Merzlikins and Georgiev as cap dumps, so I don't see them doing it. I can't imagine Gibson's trade value with his current contract would be that high. I believe that contract would have required a sweetener from Anaheim at the start of the year, so Anaheim preferred to just hold onto Gibson.

Having said that, putting Gibson through waivers makes no sense now for Anaheim. They need to receive something to make it worth their while. However, with a 10 team no trade clause, and the limited number of suitors in the NHL, there are only a handful of teams that would be interested. I do think the duck's organization would try to send him somewhere he wants to go (Carolina or Edmonton) as long as the cost is reasonable. IE, the trade needs to work for both sides as neither one has to make this move.

Sending out Arvidsson (4M) makes a lot of sense for Anaheim because he doesn't have any trade protection. Anaheim could flip him elsewhere for an asset in the future. I would imagine that Arvidsson still has some value out on the open market, so I don't think they would have an issue taking him back.

Arvidsson (4M) + Skinner (2.6) would actually be enough to bring in Gibson at his full hit. It also wouldn't cost us any assets. Although the preference is to maybe spend a bit more and have Anaheim retain. Normally, I would say that Anaheim wouldn't want to retain as they have an internal cap structure but with the floor increasing, it might not be as much of an issue for the ducks.
I don't see this management group throwing in the towel on Skinner based on team success with him. It would just change the risk factors to an older goalie with some injury history and unproven in big money games for like 4-5 years.

Moving Arvidsson might be a consideration pending on how they feel about an opposition player they would know well. I think though Oilers management will want to see what playoff Arvidsson looks like after making him a day 1 priority free agent signing.

Think, if anything, if the Oilers look into Gibson it will be about finding the right draft pick collateral to have them choke down absolutely necessity of retention to move this player. This would be a move to improve a tandem goaltender situation with its floor and ceiling to run at winning a Cup.

Knoblauch just said it on Oilers Now: we need better goaltending and we can improve on it

Yikkkkkkkkkkkes. I mean, good on the man, but this tells me there's a severe disconnect between the higher ups in the org. Bowman is content to sit on his hands outside of waiver claims, Katz seemingly won't let anyone touch Schwartz, and Dusty will go to bat until the bitter end for his protege since it would be career suicide to admit his prized pupil sucks. That leaves the coach in a very tough spot, especially when his GM comes out just hours before and proclaims to the media that Stu is super awesome when all the evidence says otherwise.

We're in year ten of McDavid. Stop being muppets and get a f***ing real goalie and/or goalie coach no matter whose ego or friendships it hurts. This isn't rocket appliances.

I don't think you can trade Arvidsson for the reason that future free agents won't sign here. You can't treat your players like this.

We're a destination and we need to keep it that way.
Nah - Vegas has been doing it for years and look how successful they are. At some point it’s winning above everything else. And it’s not like we’re dealing someone who is over performing or even delivering on his contract

So, Is he saying that the goalies can play better? Or they can improve their defensive play? Or they can get better goalies?
I suspect he saying both that the goaltenders have to play better and/or there needs to be another option.

I think he always wants him team to play better defense, but if you don't get saves, your defense can only be so good.

Guess I'll have to listen to blowhard's interview with the HC. Because I'd speculate this head coach would probably talk holistically about both team defending and goaltending can be improved on. This team was winning games but still a bit leaky with their own goal suppression work.

The "goal suppression work" that needs to improve is between the pipes. There is no defending Stuart Skinner's play this year. There just isn't.

Its not like he came out and send "get me a new goalie". He said that goaltending could be better and it could be improved upon

Pretty sure he was talking about in the context of playing better
Or maybe in both ways. He won't tip his hand

When did he say this? Sounded like he was pretty complimentary of Skinner.

16:50 is where I heard Stauffer ask about Skinner. He finishes the question and annoyingly they cut to commercials, Knoblauch replies, I didn't hear anything about "we need better goaltending and we can improve on it", but maybe I missed it. The sound quality was not good on Kris' end and it cut out halfway through what he was saying

Was it earlier in the show?
