Subban's bang on.
Add it to the list of former players who are criticizing the officials.
Pronger, Whitney, Bissonette, Schmaltz, Rupp, and etc.. the list goes on.

Damn, not a Subban fan, but makes an excellent point here. Love that this is coming from lots of media outside the Edmonton market as well.

NHL is a joke and hopefully if enough light gets shone on the incompetence things will change

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

sorry, I couldn't help but laugh at the bullshit I just posted there. Zero chance the league changes and because *reasons* I bet the calls get even worse against Edmonton going forward. f*** you Bettman.

What's that 11-4 record of him against teams that aren't in the playoffs if you don't mind me asking.
I'm personally not a fan of running back the Stu/Picks tandem for the playoffs.
I'm not saying that he's a strong backup option. It was a response to your comment about how much more dominant we would've been. The answer: not very.

I'm not certain I'm a fan of Pickard as the potential starter, should Skinner go down at any point either. But I'm also not fond of Vejmelka's $2.73m cap hit eating up more than half of the team's deadline space, knowing full well that Utah would run us through the meat grinder for retention. Especially when that backup may only start half a dozen games before walking as a FA.

Be realistic about you can tangibly improve on the roster. The goaltending market is chock full of landmines. Jack Campbell was one of them.

That is one of the dumbest things I have heard from Dusty. Does he not understand protecting stars means calling actual penalties? LIke did he overeat and had brain fog when he said that. About what the difference was between the NHL and NBA, etc? lol

This is the type of media we have in Edmonton
That “station” and its hosts have some of the dumbest takes of all time. I used to send them actual data and analytics just proving them plain wrong- then they stopped reading my texts. I also don’t appreciate them mocking this board and Oilers fans in general (Gazzola does this like he knows more than everyone else when he is one of the least knowledgable hosts I’ve ever heard).

I had a battle with Kassian too. He said, on the 2 guys podcast, the Oilers defence would collapse without Ceci. Obviously they didn’t- then he says he never said that- so I sent him the audio clip of him saying it.

3 more years at $5m AAV

How many examples are there around the league of teams retaining $2.5m for 3 years?
I just checked, zero.

More importantly Pittsburgh only has one retention slot left which they'll most likely use on Pettersson
I think they'll use it on Karlsson. That said, for any rentals who are in the final year, if they like the price, they might cough up the extra for another team to do the retaining

It's basically everyone other than Dusty and Canucks' media

Add Jeff Marek to that list. He thought it would have been 4+.

Surprisingly ESPNs Greg Wyshynski thought it was too much.

It's crazy how much more lethal of a team the Oilers would be IF they address the goaltending.

Skinner and 1B (Vejmelka)

I dont get how the numbers keep smacking us in the face and we just ignore it. Its gotten to the point where we're so afraid to "blame the goalies" that the expectation is for the team to play perfect hockey in front of them.

Pierre Lebrun says the Oilers will look to add another defender, more of a shutdown type, to their blue line even if Klingberg is a good fit.

I think they will look at a puckmover if the Klingberg experiment fails.

Why do they need a shutdown defender? They really need a two way guy who can play in all situations if they add another defender. They already give up amongst the fewest chances in the league.

Stauffer was on Spittin Chiclets today and said Evander Kane had a core surgery that has never been done before in an NHL player, and had a setback in December, so they don’t know when he’ll be back. Interesting story to follow for sure.

No man they said we will if Klingberg works as the top 4. If he doesn’t, the job opens up

I think, if Klingberg emerges as the top 4 we need, we should focus the available cap room on Trent Frederic and a player like Ryan O’Reilly

Yeah it went from wondering if he'll be back by the end of the season to now wondering if he'll be back before the end of playoffs.

Maybe I'm just cynical but I hear all these updates as pretty much BS as part of the PR element of justifying being able to use his LTIR space for the whole season. It's just interesting that he was slated to return January-February but now that our cap accrual isn't going to be substantial he suddenly needs more time (I'm all in favor of this too btw, if that's what's happening)

Idk brother.

Hard for me to agree when it looks like this. I'm all for getting a new backup/1B. Rerunning the Stu/Pick tandem doesn't make me feel confident.
A team as good as us shouldn't have goaltending that ranks as low as the worst teams in the league.

1B lolol we would need to get a 1A first. Skinner at very best might become a 1b but that might be a stretch until he proves other wise

Possibly because of weird start to blame goalies Schwartz name gets brought up and we can't have that in the organization

I disagree. He had his whole core pretty much rebuilt. His knee done. He isn't even conditioning much less skating. I don't even know if he will be back next year. Seems like he is enjoying life away from hockey, golfing, training, going to Trump's inauguration. I don't think the NHL cares about Bob Stauffer doing a spot on Spittin Chiclets saying anything

Yeah, you keep flashing the stats, but you're not really acknowledging the issue, which is deployment. Where's this backup/split starting option stepping in and pushing us into the win column where we weren't already winning the games?

Fact of the matter is that most 1B options available on the market aren't necessarily going to be upgrades on what we already have available. Statistically, maybe minor. But that doesn't always translate in a new environment.

Reimer, Lyon, Vladar, Quick, Georgiev and Vanecek are the extent of the current rental market upon first look. Lankinen, Soderblom and Vejmelka all carry a heavy costs in all likelihood. And again, these are guys who are walking at year's end.

I bet Kane is back at 100% game 1 of the playoffs. I do think the NHL cares about making sure the integrity of LTIR is intact, and that means the public perception of its integrity. So, the information we get does matter or else the league would investigate things. I could see us exaggerating the severity of some of these surgeries

There is absolutely no way. He hasn't even done any off ice training! His knee injury, at the minimum, they said is 4 weeks. That takes him to the middle of February. Then he has to continue his rehab on his core. Then he has to get his strength and conditioning up. Then build his skating and be game shape. You think that's all going to happen by the beginning of April? You truly are Mr Positive

It's 3 months away. Anyway we will see when it comes.

You sure we still shouldn’t get a goalie? Haha. skinner 3 goals on 10 shots is just atrocious
