When both of Hampus Lindholm and Richard Rakell were traded from the Ducks, I was appalled the Oilers didn’t outbid. Those guys are completely legit. Exactly the kind of players you win with. I haven’t seen much of Rakell lately but his numbers are way up —- would be awesome to get peak Rakell. Better than most.

It's because he's one of about only 2-3ish top-4 RHD that are rumoured to be available at the deadline.

The Oilers can easily afford to have someone on staff compiling videos like this and lobbying on behalf of the team on a full-time basis. Theres a mountain of evidence to work with.

I mean we can all write essays forever on this. (I will say the Oilers should have outbid on Rackell, but Boston gave up ALOT for Lindholm, former 1st, 1st + 2 2nds for a pending UFA, I don't know the Oilers were going to do that. I think Holland was on duty then and he wasn't outbidding that lol)

Rackell has 23 goals this year and (according to Puck Pedia) his fancy are largely positive even for how bad that team is overall.

He actually seems like a fancies darling, so he would really make the team much better, imo. Great add if they went that way.

Once Marchand walks, I can see Boston starting to retool and making a few players available

Agreed, plus ROR could run the 3rd line with more success if you wanted to go that route.

Rakell seems to play well with other Really Good players, so that seems to make him a strong fit here, imo.

Frederic would be good, Carlo is slow and not very good honestly.

More importantly Pittsburgh only has one retention slot left which they'll most likely use on Pettersson

The only way I can imagine Rakell being an Oiler is if Arvdisson is on LTIR

To be a smart ass...not very. Pickard is 11-4 this year. And in those four losses the Oilers scored a total of five goals, getting shut out twice.

Honestly, I'd rather not spend three necessary assets for a goalie rental. There are larger areas of this roster that need to be addressed with limited cap space.

Would it be nice to have a 'better' goaltender? Absolutely. But not at the expense of limited cap space and limited assets.

I agree with Pitts most likely retaining on Petterson. They can also get a broker to retain on Petterson and use their last retention on another Pitts player like Rakell

What's that 11-4 record of him against teams that aren't in the playoffs if you don't mind me asking.
I'm personally not a fan of running back the Stu/Picks tandem for the playoffs.

That is one of the dumbest things I have heard from Dusty. Does he not understand protecting stars means calling actual penalties? LIke did he overeat and had brain fog when he said that. About what the difference was between the NHL and NBA, etc? lol

This is the type of media we have in Edmonton

In the seasons after the Flames sent a similar compilation to the league of Gaudreau getting slashed on the hands, he went from drawing 31 penalties in a season to drawing 37, 37, and 43. His net penalties went from +21 (4th) to +34 (2nd), +28 (1st in the league that year) and +31 (again, T-1st)

It's been proven to work. Zero reason not to do it.
