Issue is in a small sample size anyone can look good.

If he comes back and looks passable beside Nurse, would you be okay with the Oilers standing pat on defense?

Honestly it depends how the rest of the team looks like at the deadline and whoever is injured. If someone important goes down, it might be more pressing to go out and fix that whole. Adding a guy for free that plays well isn't a bad thing.

If he comes in and pulls an Ekholm in the next 6 weeks, don’t go for a defender. If he comes in and pulls a meh or average, continue looking

If Klingberg is playing that well, I don't think they trade for a Dman.

I think they'll want another LHD. Currently they have...
  • Nurse and EKholm as the main defensive anchors
  • Bouchard and Kling as the offensive pulse of the blueline; and
  • Kulak, Emberson, and Stecher as the lower end 2-way/defensive options

Grabbing an older reliable vet like Dumoulin, Martinez, Lindgren, Maatta, Mike Reilly, whom you can park in the PB to back up the LD makes a lot of sense. It would leave you with...

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Emberson/Kulak
Kulak-Klingberg
Dumoulin, Stecher

... which looks really good in my eye.

Is that you Tyler Yaremchuck?

I don't get this line of thinking. If Klingberg comes in and plays well you would be upset? Like when did it make sense to cheer for failure?
I'm just saying I hope we still upgrade the team by trading assets like our 1st round pick or SOR.

I'm not saying this is a bad move

Ok, so the Bruins tried to waive Regula while he was on the IR? Interesting decision...

I've written this a few times, but the Oil seem content to not have guys play through nagging injuries this year (at least during the first half of the season).

The Bruin's probably asked:

"How's the leg?"
"It's not 100%, but it's improving"
"Do you feel up to try it in game action?"
"Sure"
"Great, enjoy Providence!"

The Oil's back and forth has likely been:
"How's the leg?"
"It's not 100%, but it's improving"
"Great! Just keep working with the team in practice as you build it back to 100%"

Meanwhile the Oil get a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency #7, who doesn't count on the cap while learning the system,; and Alec gets to collect an NHL salary during his recovery.
