We will have to wait until the deadline. Too many teams are still in it. It seems every target I look at has seen their team win enough to be fighting for a playoff spot.

It could also be expensive. It would be so huge if Klingberg could turn out better than anyone dreamed so we could forget about D upgrades and use our assets and cap on goaltending

I don't think it would be expensive. I am not talking about some monster deal for Saros. I know getting a true #1 is not in the cards.

I like the idea of getting pending UFA Vejmelka in Utah. I like the Detroit goalies too, Talbot and Lyon. I like Nedeljkovic and Quick, but not a lot

I am against getting Gibson, but with retention I'd be pumped to see it (although I'd still vote no). My main issue with him is the term. It would be an unwise gamble that could pay off huge

If they are pushing for playoffs, they won't be selling off roster guys imo. Maybe if our coaching staff played him and he scores a bunch between now and the TDL, we get a late pick from them for Skinner.

If they are selling off guys like that and saying screw playoffs, they won't have any need for Skinner so he would probably costs us a pick/prospect to dump him there, if he even waives.

From my POV the team has 2 options. Play him top line with Mcdavid or elsewhere that he could succeed and try and salvage the asset while treating the player fairly and either finding out you want to keep him, or increasing his value to a team like Boston. Or they scratch him til he's pissed off enough to waive anywhere, and they pay to get rid of him. They seem to be taking the second option, which I disagree with.

I see them in the same light as Nashville the year they traded us Ekholm at the deadline while still being a playoff team. It's pretty heavily speculated that Frederic won't be re-signing in Boston. Not only could theu flip him for a meaningful asset that they can use in the offseason, but they aren't in a position where Frederic is the difference for them between making the playoffs or not, or winning a round or not. He just isn't.

Carlo would be a much harder get but have just heard rumours that he could be available.

Again, it's not unheard of for bubble teams to get assets for pending UFAs as a retool. A 1st rounder would probably make it worth their while.

If Gibson comes 50 percent retained you take that deal and run. 2 years left on his deal still fits are window to keep inning after mcdavid re ups.....

Dont think you can make the deal with out the huge retainmemt tho. And yes I'm a big supporter of getting Gibson

Skinner problem is mistly mental. I mean he can play lights out. So he had the ability. But we all no some goalies can never concur the mental aspect of things. And IMHO another big privity for Skinner and every other goalie is Schwartz. Plain and simple. And we all no it....

Interesting. I actually think Skinner has pretty strong mental resiliency as he stepped up when Campbell melted down as the window phase goaltending plan. The pressure he's been under to succeed is enormous amplified playing in Edmonton with 15+ years of built up expectation riding on this moment in time . Reality is he's a development phase goalie trying to build his game and consistency on a mature window phase team primed to compete for a Cup. Just like other position players it's difficult for young players to deliver the consistency required in such circumstances. We see that manifest with a wide variance in play. Though we also see pretty solid recovery from bad games. Issue is the unknown of when the bad games will show up.

The mental challenge I see as more in his hockey sense/processor which can see him struggle with anticipation and reaction notably in some disastrous out of net adventures. This is either part of the development growth phase of learning at the apex level of competition or it may play out as an inherent weakness. Personally I think he has physical limitations in his game - he's not a naturally athletic, agile or super flexible like modern goaltender types. Technique wise again because he doesn't have inherent athleticism and flexibility he can look very awkward at times trying to make saves notably pulled east-west lateral movement. He's a battler though so can make the save but look awkward. Few style points.

I'm less inclined to blame coaching. Schwartz has actually had reasonable success with developing young goaltender prospects into NHL goaltenders. He hasn't been able to beat a poor organization goaltending 'strategy' that's focused on recycling old, established and fully formed goaltenders. There was a lot of talk about Campbell working off season with Manny Legace which carried into a good pre-season before the wheels fell off again. Then a belief by some that airlifting Legace into Bakersfield at Campbell's request and team approval would miraculously revive nice guy Jack. Of course that didn't happen.

It's a pickle for this team which has really never prioritized the goaltending position until sewering its window cap with the expensive Campbell bet. Skinner deserves some credit to rising as a mid-range prospect planned to be a back-up through the Campbell winning window years. But ... here we are.

I'd love a 1A veteran goaltender to platoon with Skinner. But there's no certainty in that either with really only an expensive John Gibson out there. I think Gibson could reset on a structured, great team but it's still a risk for an organization with limited assets and cap.

This deadline will be very interesting. I expect this organization like the out of left field Klingberg signing to leave no stone unturned to build up its roster to win that next game 7 or fewer required to win the Cup.
