I would be surprised that Quinn Hughes would give his endorsement to his brothers to pick up Miller.

Oil are now in full deadline test mode with the Klingberg and Philp adds and making the waiver decision on Derek Ryan. Klingberg is essentially a Dollarama Erik Karlsson type who will test a cheap, low risk option to add a high octane puck mover. They couldn't burn up all of their cap and trade assets on one player and this puck moving type is most expensive to acquire. Philp gets a decent runway to evaluate as a
4th C option though I expect they might look for veteran coverage with a hard game.

Still expect a top 4 D add which will burn the bigger trade assets. Though the player type, two-way or shutdown cycle breaker, hard ice and PKer is easier and cheaper to find than elite puck mover. So wonder more about mid-range term guys like Connor Murphy or ... even Ristlainnen and a 3/4 C option with a heavy, playoff style game. Might even be a pure shutdown guy like David Savard who has a career 60.7% defensive zone starts with deep established coaching trust with hard, goal suppression situational play

- Top 4 Dpuck mover or shutdown
- #6 D puck mover Klingberg
- 3 or 4C with hard ice, grind game

Just playing around with the math for next year, assuming the cap does in fact go up to 97M. That would be enough money to acquire another center AND a top 4 defenceman. We would have about 7.6M to spend on those two positions, with only losing J.Skinner, Perry, Klingberg, Kapanen as UFAs.

I wonder if this impacts who they target at the deadline. We could in theory add a 6M player that is signed long term like a Pulock or even a Byram.

Bouch could be anywhere between what you guessed and much higher depending on how his playoffs go.

He's able to be sent down without waivers because he cleared waivers back at the beginning of the season.

10 games played or 30 calendar days on the roster until he needs waived again.

If you think goaltending is our biggest issue you don’t understand our biggest issue. The biggest issue is since Sekera left and Klefbom was injured we never replaced the Top 4 Dman we lost. We have been running without a 4th top 4 D for years. No Ceci was not a top 4 Dman despite playing there. We swapped one for another albeit much better one in Ekholm but we never actually filled he hole.

I'd love a 1A goaltender upgrade that pushes Skinner into the development role he was projected to be in this team's core window years. But that's not likely to happen. Upgrade on Pickard ... maybe.

Most realistically I think they prioritize strengthening, deepening and diversifying their defense corp and upgrade the critical 3/4C bottom six middle pivot position with a hard ice two way guy. Build up critical position depth to help fortify around the goaltending. Playoff grind series hockey is very different than one-off regular season play.

They don't have assets for everything.

The biggest thing that will propel us far into a run again is getting a 2nd goalie to challenge SKinner or take the lead whenever he starts going down. Goalie is the last line of defence.

You can play almost perfect D and it doesn't matter when a goalie lets in a softy

We will be golden if we can find a second goalie who can average 910 with us from joing us and onwards

I still think Miller is overrated He is 32 now. His prime is done. Plus he is a cancer. I think that is his #1 choice.

It will make the Canucks worse though. That's all that I care about. Laff fits in with the other soft fruit cakes they have

Bouch could be quite a bit higher. Like 10+ if he has another playoffs like last. Plus he is still only pace for 60pts and a very good +/-. If the team finishes strong like they usually do, that could easily work it's way up to 70++ pts by the end of the season. A 70-80pt dman that shows up big in the playoffs and plays well defensively 95% of the time is a 10 million dollar guy in a league with a 97m cap.

We all hoped Leon would take a discount to the tune of millions in AAV for the good of the team, and he didn't. As great as he has been this year, the guy is going to be the highest paid player in the league by 750k, when in previous years the highest paid guy topped the previous by 100k (Mackinnon, 12.6 to McD's 12.5) and 650k (Matthews 13.25 to Mack's 12.6). He could have probably gotten more, but all those guys could have in theory if they wanted to play for a cellar team with oodles of cap space. Obviously I would have given him a blank cheque to stay regardless, but he did get everything he earned and deserved.

Bouch with his bridge deal is in a tougher spot even, because assuming he gets 8 years this time, that has him expiring at 33yo, unlike Leon who would have at 29. Not many 33 y/o's command yet another big deal, so he is looking at it like this is his one chance at a massive payday. If we get him for under 10m, I think we only see a 5 year or less deal. It gives him another shot at UFA within his expected prime.

I also think Philp if he shows well could get a bit more than 800k. Not a lot more, but over replacement level possibly, as again he is an older guy at 26 who will be looking to set up his future in case he flames out for whatever reason.

If they are pushing for playoffs, they won't be selling off roster guys imo. Maybe if our coaching staff played him and he scores a bunch between now and the TDL, we get a late pick from them for Skinner.

If they are selling off guys like that and saying screw playoffs, they won't have any need for Skinner so he would probably costs us a pick/prospect to dump him there, if he even waives.

From my POV the team has 2 options. Play him top line with Mcdavid or elsewhere that he could succeed and try and salvage the asset while treating the player fairly and either finding out you want to keep him, or increasing his value to a team like Boston. Or they scratch him til he's pissed off enough to waive anywhere, and they pay to get rid of him. They seem to be taking the second option, which I disagree with.

If I was Vancouver I would trade both provided they are somewhat decent packages

Skinner problem is mistly mental. I mean he can play lights out. So he had the ability. But we all no some goalies can never concur the mental aspect of things. And IMHO another big privity for Skinner and every other goalie is Schwartz. Plain and simple. And we all no it....

We will have to wait until the deadline. Too many teams are still in it. It seems every target I look at has seen their team win enough to be fighting for a playoff spot.

It could also be expensive. It would be so huge if Klingberg could turn out better than anyone dreamed so we could forget about D upgrades and use our assets and cap on goaltending
