Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | Where's The Beef?

I don't really see the lack of depth at LD. If anything it's probably the single strongest spot on the team with Ekholm, Nurse and Kulak, IMO.

There's only rumours about the team looking at a LH PMD because they could play on the right side beside Nurse. You can pretty much guarantee Smith isn't going to ever fill that spot this season, so I'm not really sure why he'd be worth the dice roll.
The issue with the depth is that it ends after those three. Smith at the very least would be a better option than Josh Brown, who is currently $1m on our salary cap.

In Bakersfield we're consistently running a RHD on the left side. The next call up on the farm is Cam Dineen. There's an organizational shortage of left handed options.

Smith is a defenseman with decent footwork, good offensive instincts and a good first pass. I think he'd be worth a look in the immediate short term.

And beyond Kulak we have Dineen and thats it. Very little depth there at an organization level, despite being strong on the main roster when everyone is healthy. If he falters, send him down and if he passes through, he can help balance AHL pairings if they feel the need.

Kulak has played well beside Nurse, so if you don't think Smith can handle the top 4 you put Kulak beside Nurse, and have Smith play with Emberson. If Smith shows better than Stecher, it's pretty easy to make it work even if you don't think he is the ideal player because he won't be replacing an ideal player. Yet again, he is free and zero risk.

If that's what you're looking to do, wait for him to clear and swap them a random AHL forward for him like the other two AHL deals they've made this year. You can't improve AHL depth with waivers.

They clearly want to run six D on the roster to accrue cap space. Brown is only up because of the lengthy road trip.

HNIC:

Preds telling teams that even though ROR does not have trade protection in his contract, he will be treated as he has a NTC out of respect
offer needs to make the Preds excited, and ROR wants to go there
ROR has not asked to be moved yet

Kraken CEO at the Sabres/Kraken game which is unusual and noted

Vancouver is considering trade offers for Miller or Pettersen to western conference teams
They aren't telling western conference teams that inquire no

Well, you can't if you never try. It seems to me that we lost a player to waivers that's now in the AHL for Vegas, so it's possible build ahl depth with waivers for other clubs it seems. Also, apparently our whole cap accrual thing may have been for nothing according to puckpedia? So I don't really give a shit about a weeks worth of accrual, especially when the team seems to think it's worth spending that on Josh Brown anyways.

Sure. Call them and offer a trade for a nothing player. Idc. If they say no, take him anyways cause you never know how these things play out and despite your never ending goal post moving, there is no real downside to trying.

We would need to claim him, and then waive him again.

The 1 time its worked all year is more of a unicorn than a standard, and just a waste of time.

Not that unusual. He was on the road with them a few times last year. He does it to walk around the different arenas and stadiums in different city to see what they are doing with customer interaction and engagement

If ROR was right handed I would be all over it. I just don't see another left handed center being in our radar.

I'd take a shot on Ty Smith if the price is free (free being the operative word). Maybe Coffey can make something of him.

No idea what happened but after 21/22 but he is no longer the same player. I know he had some injuries but he is a good AHL player that looks to have lost his way at the NHL level

Still wild to me what an amazing job Coffey has done with the D here. I thought he was just another old boys hire, but he has turned out to be an amazing hire.
