For the defence, there's still a question of what type they'll need.

Do you want a smooth skating puck mover with more size than Stecher? Fabbro can likely be had for a song and a dance. Size and physicaility? Luke Schenn is another Pred that's likely got a for sale sign next to him.

Connor Murphy makes sense if you can get retainment, same with Risto.

If one of Nurse or Kulak could transistion to the right side, Dumoulin or Valimaki could also be decent fits.

A big part of figuring out what they need is going to come down to Emberson and what he shows over the next 30 games. I've liked what I've seen from him over the last while with Kulak on the 3rd pair, I don't think it's outrageous that he gets another shot with Nurse come January and looks good.

Young boy Perry > Kane and Podz

Perry fights through traffic as well as anyone, but he doesn't really run over and hurt guys like the other 3 can.

I realize he's not going to be at the top of the list for a lot of people, but TJ Brodie I believe can still move the puck but has had a rough go of it in Chicago.

If other options are gone, I wouldn't mind taking a swing. He'll probably come for cheaper than some of the other asks and I do believe him to be better than Cody Ceci.

Very annoyed right now.
If it's my posts I apologize, but I think wounds are deep if a couple of posts about Puljujarvi within over a year do this especially when the team started handling McDavid's injury time this well. I mean hopefully things are getting on the right path slowly. Anyway, like I said no intention to cause annoyment and I wont' be writing more, all the best!

I really dont understand why there is so much desire for an inconsistent player (Kostin) who is getting 4th line minutes (recently just over 5 minutes TOI) on the worst team in the NHL and has been a healthy scratch.
He doesnt even PK. He is also way overpaid and would require retention.
Lastly...who is he going to replace here?

Focus should be on the defence and then try to find a heavy bottom 6 player that wont be a liability.

Kostin can split duties with Perry but yeh not really a need.

If BOS stays at the bottom of Atlantic , I would go for Carlo as our 2RD

Ryan wouldn't clear waivers. Colorado is desperate for forward depth and he's a right shot C that PKs.

Honestly, and I say this as someone who likes Ryan - who cares.

It would be nice to have him around as depth, and he does tend to get better as seasons progress, but he's a guy that can be pretty easily be replaced at the deadline if we absolutely need to. There will be Sam Carrick's around again to go after if we want to.

I agree, but there's no point in doing that. You're essentially burning assets. And when you look at what a guy like Bjugstad ended up costing, that's a pretty expensive cost for a player you already own.

Not to mention he's probably a respected guy in that room.

Sorry, I’m just joking! 95% of my posts are not meant to be taken literally, please no offence intended!

I’m not a PJ fan but was just making a play on words for comedic enjoyment or lack there of!

All good, please don’t stop posting on my account. But if you could get a couple others to stop I’d be most grateful as would most of the forum members.

Tonight Devils play the Flames and on Nov. 4 we play the Devils. Excellent opportunity to look at the defenseman i been touting.

Devils are a great trade partner next summer but not really now. They're going to give Casey as much support as he needs before taking the training wheels off with a Hamilton or Siegenthaler trade.

50% retention, and he’s in the Perry/Podkolzin/Ryan range where cap is basically irrelevant

The problem is that San Jose has used up all of their retention spots so we'd have to get a third team involved.

Could cost too much for a player that has fallen out of favour with every coach he has played for in the NHL.

Getting Kostin is growing on me. Watching Podz punch that dude really unlocked the bloodlust in me.

My favourite part of that fight was the Preds announcers talking about how Lauzon can chuck them and then their shock when Podkolzin tagged him.

Thank you for the kind words and sorry if I at least partly misread you :) Like I've said the Oilers keep staying as my team and I have a bad habit of reading these posts pretty much daily, but writing (almost) just about Puljujarvi. But not much lately and I'll keep it that way.

I hope you'll get that SC, but even in the worst case scenario I think it's been a pretty nice ride for the Oilers fans due to a highly competitive team for some years and the most amazing talents there are in hockey. Losers talk maybe, but still :)

They need to get Simon playing time. Siegenthaler/Kovy has been top pair. Hughes/Pesce has both returned from injury. Simon's been eating popcorn. Kovy is likely available and its him that fits our needs beside Nurse. Top 4 guy for 765K. Though he does not have elite vision he is good at outlet, can cycle, excellent in his own zone and he can be a warrior too. Perfect foil for Nurse and his mistakes. Look at his numbers this year.

Meh...I guess.
Perry (even at this advanced age) brings more to the table than Kostin.
So I agree with you...not a need.

Well on one hand everyone complains that we're not young enough and lost too much youth.

Well there's a 1st round pick with speed and physicality who likes playing in Edmonton even when he's not promised any time with McDavid or Draisaitl and is only 25 years old that can be had for peanuts.

We're unlikely to be able to keep Evander Kane after this season, I've crunched the cap numbers, with Draisaitl and Bouchard's raises it will be difficult to do much with the roster, Kane sorta needs to be gone. Leon's salary eats up all the dead cap we have off the books and then Bouchard's raise eats up any cap raise and then some leaving no money to give Nurse a D partner or anything.

Kostin would be a good replacement at probably a low cap hit beyond this year too.

This team needs to take more flyers on young players like this, they've screwed the pooch on their drafting the last 10 years without much to show for it and every 1st round pick for the next 2-3 seasons is likely to be dealt at the deadline.

Finding cheap reclamation projects (particularly 1st rounders) is not a bad way to add some youth and jump to your roster. If Kostin comes back here and produces similarly to his one season here, that would be a very good add for a low cost.

Strudwick called this. He said it was better for his career to take less money and stay in Edmonton and continue to develop.
It wasn’t just Strudwick. There were many posters on this board questioning his decision. Course we were told how the rebuilding situation in Detroit was going to ‘ideal’ for him and how he was finally going to a team where he was ‘wanted’. That lasted all of 33 games.

@McDNicks17 had a good post recently that summed it up well. There’s almost nobody on this board who didn’t like Kositin and want him back at reasonable money. But the reality is that other teams with more money to spend can offer overpays. It’s hard to put ourselves in a player’s shoes and say we’d leave money on the table. But it’s easy to say that after I took the money and went elsewhere, I wouldn’t come back to town, put on the Oilers jersey and pretend I’d always been loyal to the crest.
