Anyone know what is the minimum games missed would be to qualify for retroactive LTIR cap relief/credit with regards to McDavid?
For some reason I thought I heard 12 games or 24 days

Our management did spend big on a goalie. His name was Jack Campbell.

That decision probably cost us a Stanley Cup last June.

It is what it is.

You're probably not winning a game 7 of a Cup Final with a Skinner or Markkanen in net. We've tried it. 0/2.

$5M isn't spending big IMO, that's way at the low end for NHL starters (except those on ELC) and it showed.

I actually can't think of any/many guys with 3-4 years of "carry the load" starter experience that sign in that price range.

With inflation, we pretty much signed Campbell to a "limited starter experience" similar to what we signed Koskinen and before him Talbot to.

Then we complain about inconsistency, wash, rinse, repeat.

I'm not saying we should be spending more either, just that your expectations that a $2.6M sophomore is going to go toe-to-toe with a $10M multiple Vezina winner in Game 7 of the SCF and not be the first guy to blink in a low-scoring 2-1 style game is kinda... I dunno, it's kinda kooky that you would expect him to win that game.

Adin Hill made $2.18m going toe to toe with said $10M multiple Vezina winner the year before

Once again it comes down to making smart moves and not smartest guy in the room moves. Our two previous GMs were notorious for those, and that's really what cost us a Cup (and probably two) in the McDrai era. Meanwhile McCrimmon and Zito- two candidates we passed over when hiring in past years- surrounded themselves with intelligent people, sought out undervalued assets rather than overpaying for past results, and the rest is history.

Unfortunately Jackson and Bowman are so far repeating history here, having hung onto dead weight like Schwartz while thinking three defensemen from one of the worst D cores in the league the previous 2-3 years were in any way answers to our problems on the blueline.

I hope it's a real 2-3 weeks, not a "2-3 weeks until he can play again at 80% to save the organization's butt, then will need some sort of surgery in the future".

That’s exactly what will happen. McDavid will be rushed back instead of healing fully. Then will require some sort of surgery

Say he misses 8 games, we better hope we get minimum 10 pts out of that stretch or we will be in trouble
i think you're bang on, the bare minimum is 40% of available points earned in McDavid's absence, anything less is verging on DISASTER ZONE. I hope the rest of this team is able to wake up, step up, and produce while their captain heals up.

Maatta, Benning and Liljegren off the board while Bowman stands pat.

Stauffer said end of his show that he’s not guaranteeing anything but he believes the Oilers are looking for something better then Liljegren, Maatta etc.

My question is… teams know we need a Dman…. So why would they even trade with us no matter how much cap space we have. They will want us to overpay. But with what capital can we even overpay?

So…you want them to aim lower because you’re worried about the acquisition cost?

You know if we traded for Benning people would be losing their minds much like the Caggiula recall.

Are you going to cry every time someone is traded and it’s not to us?
No but it just raised the value of other Dmen available does it not? How is me saying that crying North? Not sure why you and McDnicks have to act this childish about it. I usually am in that crew lol maybe don’t go down to my level.

I suspect they are waiting to see what sort of established, veteran RD shakes loose during the season. The price will not be cheap.

No. I wanted them to think about problems like this when they lost broberg in the Summer. Or they should’ve thought of signing at least one Dman during free agency. They knew Broberg wanted out

Okay…but now they are aiming higher so that’s still not enough for you.

It’s basically like they can’t win. You just want to complain. That’s what it sounds like anyways.

Which is the smart play. It’s early but a team like Boston is struggling and obviously playing way below where they expected to be. Maybe a guy like Carlo could become available by the deadline if they can’t right the ship. You don’t wanna blow all your assets/cap space early just to fill the spot, if this team can’t stay in a solid position with the dmen they’ve got then they shouldn’t be buying anyways.

Oilers aren’t accruing cap space anymore and probably won’t be for a couple weeks until McDavid is back
Less and less available cap space by the time the Trade deadline arrives

I don’t want to complain. I want us to win and get us the help to win. When we are winning, do I complain? You act like I’m the only one who complains.

Whatta mean, the Oilers were active early in free agent in the d-market with day 1 signings of Josh Brown at 3x $1million, Troy Stetcher 2x $787,5000, Noel Hoeffenmayer $775,000 and day 2 Connor Carrick 1x $750,000.

Oil did their trade deadline #7-#8 depth d-men shopping early. Unfortunately they slept through prioritizing their own draft development guy. Will need a huge get this trade deadline for a cornerstone d-man.
